- We caught up with Craig Costello, graffiti artist and creator of KRINK, the notorious brand responsible for drip style markers, mops, and fire extinguishers.
As a punk kid growing up in Queens, Craig would scavenge for supplies to paint the walls and buildings of New York. His desire to create larger pieces and invent unique graffiti tools led to the development of his internationally recognized ink and paint brand Krink Inc. Craig's signature style morphed out of his modifications and innovations with paint tools; using a fire extinguisher filled with paint and paint markers rather than spray paint, his style became an instant hit in many cities around the world.

It's sad because he grew up in an era where you had to steal your paint and whatnot; it was cheap and he recognized that. KRINK is overpriced as shit, $13 for a squeezer (5:15), keep in mind they are only about 2.5 inches long and don't hold a lot of paint. He knows graffiti grew up in a poor environment but still makes his items overpriced.

As a street artist myself, this dude takes the cake for an artist(calling him that is painfully difficult) that not only fails to add an ounce of value to the scene, but rather brings the art form down. Jackson Pollock accidentally figured out how to drip paint just by using a piece of wood on canvas laid out in the studio floor and Krink used the same idea for graffiti ; only he figured out how to be Pollock on the wall by using the fire extinguisher as a painting tool!!

I think it's great that he could make a buck with the handmade ink recipes from the 90's. What surprised me is how popular it got. I've never been a big fan of fire extinguisher graffiti, but to each their own.

I'm having a hard time finding the talent in what he does. I'm not saying that it can't be esthetic and provoke a sense of artistic satisfaction, but I think he pushed minimalism too far.

Art is subjective .. the blue and yellow theme I liked .. the differing textures where need for blocking out in order to draw the eyes to a common point excites me .. sometimes it’s best to be your own biggest fan and critic .. I leave myself,my ideas and creations out for both ridicule and appreciation .. if I offend anyone and they offer me negative feedback I know my approach to that design/creation is mine and only mine for me to criticise ..

You could say this is bad art but if you were walking down a normal street and you see a blank brick wall then you are not going think twice about it but if you see drip art on that brick wall its going to catch your eye. Its going to make you stop for a second and think about it. I would much rather see a colorful wall that is out of the ordinary than a blank wall of nothing.

i always wondered what they used to do the massive tags sprayed out in Melbourne, Aus. Now i know, fire extinguishers. I know when I was younger I had plenty of mates who would put wood stainer in a paint marker and they would go to town on that as it would leave a stain on anything. and be extrodinarily hard to clean out.

i make ink with about 40ml of ethanol,5ml wood dye,8 black pens,2 blue pens,and i put steel wool in a container with about 10ml vinegar let it sit for a month and mixed the brown shit it turned the vinegar into into the ink mixture and it stains fucking crazy but it smells like cancer

Everyone's hating on this dude, but I find it really inspiring that anything can become art. I've always been so intimidated to create something artistic because i don't have the technical skills yet.
I know it's easy to hate on thus guy because "it's just spray paint on a wall" but it's honestly really inspiring to see something so accessible that makes me think "this looks pretty cool and I think i could make something like that myself."
It might be awful, but that's how people get started.
Adding colors to drab architecture is nice, when it looks intentional and clean...
He should've made that black wall almost completely blue, with only like the last 1/4th of the wall dripping, and have the white drippy blobs spread out at the top so it looks like they're clouds and the sky is melting.
At least then it would've had a decent meaning that sounds amazing when you're high as fuck.

Well it's art without you or me saying so, just by being paint placed by a person that intended to make a feeling. Maybe you should do more studying iif you want to make radical claims, because if you paid attention, many art movements were based on concepts similar to what he talked about.

I got a little afraid while I was watching this video because almost at the end of it I was kind of getting the meaning of this dripping art and was thinking it was a really awesome message and exhibition, to see the drops of paint as life and freedom and was feeling I was getting attracted into them as if some sort of ulterior meaning was calling me back in.
