They maybe “stole” some lyrics from Moby (although all blues songs have similar lyrics) but the melody is totally different and much more elaborate and the musicianship is 100 times better
If u take into account his playing (b4 the, ahem, health issues) his songwriting, his production, yes, he's at or near the top of guitarists/performers in Rock history.
One reviewer said that Jimmy Page plays the guitar like he invented it. I laughed at it because it may be the best description of Page's guitar work that I ever heard. And in all honesty, he did "invent" many things with it.
@@markbundy1694 exactly right - Jeff is a childhood friend of Jimmy's and who can say who really is "best?" Impossible. So many types of music, so many great players, there are hundreds of players on youtube right now can outplay Jimmy, Jeff, Eric, AND me... ANYWAY, It's difficult to see/know/hear/ find anyone that can do all the things ( Compose/write/play/produce/PERFORM LIVE) that Mr. Jimmy Page can do. Best Guitarist, nah, however, I repeat, there's a lot more than playing notes on a guitar that goes into being a great guitarist. Personally, I could listen to other players all day over the JIMMA; Ronnie Earl, David Grissom, CoCo Montoya, The music of DAVE ALVIN, ETC. BUT, Give my favorite all around musician/MVP/ to J. Page.
As a Brit born inconveniently too late, I had to discover Zeppelin via the Remasters package at the start of the 1990s and it almost seemed like a time tunnel digging under the whole 1980s back to something raw and somehow more substantial. And this is one of the tracks that cements that impression. I could look out at dull suburban rooftops and iron grey skies in blighty and it fit as well as anywhere it might fit in the US - where the sound is actually more native. And that's an interesting fact, because it shouldn't. Also, the lyrical interpretation almost exactly mirrors what my brother went through following my discovery of this song.
As amazing as the band was JPJ doesn't get the credit he deserves. Bonzo, Robert and Jimmy definitely were GOAT's on their instruments but the harmonic undertones that JPJ provided was the glue that held the greatness together. That church organ is otherworldly! Like Jimmy, JPJ was a studio musician that collected all those different styles of music going on at that time and brought that diversity to an already diverse sound!
For years, I thought he had played bass and the organ on two separate tracks. Only when I saw them live (on video) did I realise he played the bass on the pedals of the organ
“ in my time of dying” , is one of the best blues songs ever, and my favorite Zep songs of all time. There is much, much, much more to them. They haven’t made a bad tune.
The studio version is awesome but the Madison Square Garden Live version is mind blowing, especially with the way that Page sets the whole thing off! Epic!
Cant believe you guys have alive this long and have not heard this before.......the life you've been living...under a rock....has been changed! Your new life will be fuller with more Zeppelin! Go deeper guys
TY very much..Led Zep 3 must be my all time favourite album from them..so Ty for the reaction to it. great to see kel enjoying the mighty Zep..Keep Well Keep Strong
These videos you put out bring me so much joy and richness, because it brings back peak-experience music into my life that I haven’t listened to again for too long.
Hands down my FAVORITE ZEP SONG OF ALL TIME. When I was little, I told my brother that when I die, I want this song played at my funeral. I know, creepy. But the truth nonetheless. Love that you guys reacted to this track. You guys rock!! 😆🤘
@@Kel.N.RichReactions Yeah I think it was more the heart and soul of the music that made me say that than the lyrics. I was probably like 12 yrs old when I said that. I'm the guy that saw you guys at the Tool show in Houston and came up to you and said hello by the way. Yay! What up! Lol. Great show huh! That shit rocked! K. Keep on rockin in the free world! ❤
She reminded me of my HS sweetheart. I discovered Zeppelin on July 4, 1979 as it was the #1 song in LA’s K-EARTH 101 annual “Firecracker 300”, the greatest songs in rock and roll. I started HS that September. Sometime in 1980-82, my HS had boys week and they showed “The Song Remains the Same” to all the boys in the auditorium. My GF was into pop-disco top 40 and not into Zeppelin. My GF snuck into the auditorium for a couple of minutes before getting kicked out. She described what she saw and it was this song. This woman’s slow acceptance of the song beginning with “unsure” gestures into flat out acceptance she heard greatness is exactly what my old GF was like. It’s a slow yet immediate emergence of emotional investment which then leaves you exhausted yet exhilarated.
Okay, Rich. This almost...almost...almost makes you clean for the metal/metal stuff you've subjected Kell to over the last few weeks.. I can only send you positive vibes to keep going in this vein. Just when I had given up on you....you draw me back in with this mighty Zep tune.
I sing in a Male voice choir in Wales. Have a guess who we sang with last year, yep, Robert Plant. I was talking to him later completely star struck. I told him that after listening to him, I believed he would go far. Thank God he laughed.
Speechless! Can you imagine what it was like being 10-12 years old and music like this was coming out from so many amazing bands although Zep really is the tops. Try The Rain Song, Kel will melt in your arms Rich, you can thank me later
I Love Led Zep and this has always been my favourite song of theirs , i've never heard Plumber Lover attached to this song though , that made me burst out laughing , good on ya lol , oh and Rich you mentioned the words "another heart breaks" , which is of course an ELO song title too as you two have been dipping into them also..... Keep up the lovely work guys it's great to tune into you both on a regular basis , love the reactions :)
17:41 I think it was spontaneous but I think Robert was leading the band for a moment. I think it’s about playing the chord progression one more time before ending it. It’s like at the end of In My Time of Dying, “take me home”. In that context it could be about Heaven or about going back to the top of the song one more time before ending the song (probably both.)
to hear this for the first time......and be a musician.....l envy you.....and to see your husband's music library come to you ...Rich, buddy, she's not ready for all of it. l recommend great gig in the sky. Kel and Rich....good stuff.
I don't know if Kel realizes yet but she really likes the blues. Remember Kel the blues is about feeling good in good times and bad. Feel the music 🎶 lovely lady.😎🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
I remember going and buying Led Zep 3 on vinyl, when it first came out, having enjoyed Led Zep 2 and their first album for so long. And I was not disappointed. Even the sleeve rotates at the front ! Since Ive Been Loving you has always stood out to me, as being a superb song.
This amazing song is even more amazing, live at MSG (1973). I’ve loved LZ for about 50 years, absolutely love their instrumentals in all their songs, but nobody could sing like Plant. Plant today still sings better then the majority old & new, sad though his vocals aren’t this beautiful anymore. The four of them will always be the GODS of music.
My sister once commented this had to be the longest love song in history, I told her it is also one the best. She still doesn't get it to this day, almost 50 years later.
Thank you for bowing down to the Gods of Rock N Roll. Keith Moon from the WHO tried to get the gig and he was told they did not want some one already big and he was pissed and told them this band will fly like a led zepplin and the band thought that was cool and that is how they got the name for the band. Check it out if you do not believe me. I saw it on a Zep interview.Sounds like you got better enfo than I had. Thank you for the corrections. I lived with someone that is so this song. Brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it.
My favorite band. It got me playing the guitar, and I went out and learned every Zep song. Jimmy Page was my teen years. Yes, sadly, my girlfriend took second place. lol
Just subscribed. I've been watching your videos for a month now. I didn't know that no bass guitar on this. Bought LZ III and this is the song that struck me after Immigrant Song.
I do appreciate you both reacting to the music of my youth! You both are rockers like me! I'd like to challenge you to react to a Harry Chapin song, specially if Ms. Kel has or hasn't heard any of his work. I'd really like to know what you guys think!!
The truly amazing thing about Led Zep is the range of music they covered. Very worth exploring. But you lot might find these two songs by Traffic worth looking at. "John Barley Corn Must Die" and "Low Spark of High Heeled Boys". The second one is long, but is interesting because it actually has no guitar in it. But it's an amazing tune.
I was the last concert Oakland California July 22nd 1977 😮 the next day Led Zeppelin went back to England 😢😢because Robert Plant’s son had passed away 😢😢
love your Led Zep. reactions, I grew up with Led Zep. I would agree...Plant's ' just one more...' was from that he was really feeling the emotions that this song conjures up, so he wanted to get it out of his system...like guys, we're not done quite yet....let's run through the chorus one more time please.... ;)
Im about to lose my kidneys laughing at Kel's explanation of that. Garberator! She invented a new word? LOL I had to watch her saying that like 4 times, and laughed harder every time.
One of my all time favourite Led Zeppelin songs
It’s one they stole from a band called Moby Grape. Zeppelin were known plagiarizers.
Especially the live at Madison square garden version.
gsxrkz spoken like a true triggered fanboy. Zeppelin were known plagiarizers, there are plenty of law suits and settlements to prove it
They maybe “stole” some lyrics from Moby (although all blues songs have similar lyrics) but the melody is totally different and much more elaborate and the musicianship is 100 times better
Jean-Baptiste S so if you wrote a book, I read it and rewrite it but my fans say it’s better then it’s not stealing? Got it
How can this music be 50 years old...it sounds like it's still in the future....
I think we could call it ever present.
.... brother .. its already there ..
This is Epic Led Zeppelin. Thank you 🎸🎙🎸🥁
I love when you can see a guitar solo talking to someone. Very evident here. It's a beautiful language
Such intense, emotive music......and so well done......a prime example of why LZ is the icon that it is!
