Damn it you beat me to it! have you ever noticed on the show some times they would get the IDC before the wormhole is established and some how the unstable vortex made by the gate doesn't affect the IRIS.

I am following you for one year now. Actually I plan my own iris. But seeing this professional work I can only say big respect and consider stopping all my lousy attempts.
They actually also use giant apertures for space arms since its harder to lose satellites with a contracting circle but the person who came up with it got the idea from a camera so...
You reminded me when I was a youngster I built a small iris using thin cardboard and string with some glue. Figured out how to build that from a couple of drawings of the mechanism.
Awesome job, now you just need a projector to recreate the practical puddle they started using around season 7. One thing that always bugged me about the show's iris was how it magically disappeared when it was retracted.
Wow! I just realized that all the creative, inventive people I follow on UA-cam all have long hair, big beards, or a combination. The reason must be they are so busy thinking of inventing the next crazy idea that will make us all drool leaves them no time to think about shaving or going to the barber's shop. Ah!!! Very simple! Just make 24 of everything. Thats so beautiful! I always wanted to do that using two giant pieces of polarizing film. Would like to see the bloopers on this one. I can only imagine the clearance and tolerance discoveries you made. Well done!
I'd love an internal door that opens and closes like that. Imagine opening a door like that into your front room and walking in. If the iris was inverted on the other side so there were two irises that open with the same rotors, the overlapping parts would be hidden in between them, so both sides would appear the same without the overlaps you see here at 7:11 Of course, it would mean recessing the lower part of the frame into the floor so there's no step.
@@FlashDrive356 problem is you can't cut the blades off, the wider the aperture is opened, the more of the actual length of them is needed to keep the round look. if you cut them, you'd get steps.

@@33DavePaton33 Ancient shields seemed to fail whenever they were actually needed. Bad guys always announce their attack by taking out power. Moving parts might be more prone to failure but sometimes low tech is the best way to go. And the iris just looks cool.

@@Keinapappa it’s strange, but after watching the Stargate shows for years I never thought of this same thing until after I watched this video.
@@Keinapappa from my understanding it was the close proximity. It prevented the "splash" from building when a wormhole activated.
