I am a huge Canucks fan and Pavel was always my favorite. He was so fast and could almost always score. I miss watching him out on the ice. He was amazing.
Im 28, and this video brings back alot of memories for me... I listened to the canucks pretty religously on the radio (no tv) from about 91-94 and wow what an impact this guy had... I've still got the 94 final game on VHS somewhere back at the folks place... I met Jim Robson in person too one time pumped some gas for his little 14' aluminum boat when he pulled into thetis Island back in the mid 90's. swiped the visa, sure enough "James Robson" the voice of the vancouver canucks cknw98...
I grew up watching him. In my opinion he is the best player ever. He was the best while he played, and he played when the NHL was the hardest. Before his time, the game was easier. After he retired, the rules were changed to make it easier. He was the best. (of course this is my opinion heh)
best canuck (on ice) ever. he doesn't deserve to be retired though, idk what he ever did for the COMMUNITY. he deserves to be in the ring of honour tho.
Absolutely the greatest Canuck of all time. He's a guy who nobody will ever be able to say, there's a "next" of. We heard Lindros was "the next" Gretzky, and then it was Crosby was "the next one." Leech, when he first came into the league was "the next" Orr. There will never be a "next" Pavel Bure.
i KNOW ITS ABOUT TIME THEY RECOGNIZED WHAT A TELENT HE WAS, TOO BAD WE MIGHT NOT HAVE A HOCKEY SEASON THOUGH, BUT TO ME HE WAS LIKE THE HUMAN HIGHLIGHT FILM OF HOCKEY, EVEN AT AWAY GAMES THE FANS STOOD UP WONDERING WHAT THE ROCKET WOULD DO NEXT, JUST AN AMAZING TALENT. tHANKS.
ahhh that remember the good old days...I was young and collecting hockey cards, and to have Pavel Bure cards was almost an exploits! Friends were jealous, some had better cards...we were bragging about it and stuff,ah memories hehe. I hope that Crosby and Ovechkin will stay healty and have a long and constant carreer.
I've been ignoring hockey this whole time (lived in Vancouver my whole life too) but I wouldn't have if he'd been a Canuck about 10 years later than he was... also, omg, he is SOOOOOO pretty!!
BEST HOCKEY PLAYER EVER. I'm Canadian and I love Gretzky, Howe and Orr but that Russian is the greatest hockey talent (not the most points, seasons or personalities) ever. Orr was the only player that even came close to generating the kind of excitement Bure did. Watch his highlights, all five defensive players in their own zone and he dips and doodles around and somehow manages to go in on goal all alone like it was a breakaway.
Russia is an extreme country and very intense, Pavel and Ovechkin both have that extreme on the edge fire burning, and are not afraid to show it. But Pavel had more obstacles to break, and there were more Don Cherries who he was going to prove wrong! all these guys have a story, but Pavel's is the most amazing to me. What a determination!
Bure will always be the greatest Canuck ever, yes he had disagreements with the management , but for the life of me why isnt he in the Hall Of Fame. Nobody brought the fans out of their seats, even away games. This is an injustice.
its a real shame that he got injured so many times, otherwise he could really made it to the books with all the other big stars :/ but anyway he, is my favorite hockeyplayer of all time!
that guy was my favorite when i was a kid. then he pulled the crap with the trade. I still love him tho. Sidenote: Biggest puckhog in Canucks history. But we love you Pavel
I wish Pavel would have retired a Canuck, but I won't hold any anger towards him for leaving. It was ownership that pushed him away... not the fans. That said, I'm also glad Henrik now holds the team record for points in a season!
both were great, u can't compare them, they both had their own style. Bure had the speed and moves, and Gretzky had the vision and ability to find openings and space where nobody else could. seriously u cant say one is better than the other, just say that they were both great players who were great in different ways.
People used to refer to Bure as the "Lil' Bobby Orr". Can't say it's not true, Bure is damn fast and handles the puck great. It's almost like watching Bobby, yet no one compares to Bobby.
That very night: "Pavel Bure had been subject to several cheap shots during the course of the game that went unpenalized, received a cross check from Craig Ludwig. When he was knocked to his knees, Bure received a whallop from Dallas tough guy Shane Churla. Referee Andy Van Hellemond did not see the cross check or the punch from Churla, so Pavel Bure took things into his own hands; or shall we say took things into his own elbow. Bure leveled Churla with a wild elbow to his jaw." - May 4, 1994
lol, i like Russian players because of the moves they pull, my second favorite player and current active favorite player is Pavel Datsyuk. My first fav. is Steve Yzerman. I also enjoyed watching Fedorov till he left :( but i think Russians are some of the best.
Ovechkin was inspired by Bure, and called him his hero, well afterall he was the "Russian Rocket" and now Ovechkin achieved his dream scoring more goals then him =P lets see him get back to back 60 like Bure did, that would be awesome =D
Bure was my favorite player but I always get pissed when people bad mouth him since the canucks would have never made to the playoff finals without bure present. McLean was good in goal but it was buire who scored the goal against the flames and put out the leafs in that playoff year
yes both were great in their OWN way, Bure had the speed and moves, but Gretzky had the vision and the ability to find openings where others couldn't. There is a huge difference between them and u cant compare.
I think that the only thing missing from Bure's NHL cv was a Stanley Cup. Other than that a true NHL legend and one the best players to ever don a Canucks Unifrom. I agree his number should be retired.
@yummycocacola He said he will watch vancouver - boston and best wishes to vancouver. He said 'we were outsiders in 1994 but now Canucks is the great team'.
@jordanf101 A lot of Russian and Eastern European players were drafted late in the 80's and 90's, namely because the players would have to defect from their home countries due to the Cold War, and the chance of that happening wasn't good at all, not to mention the skepticism to adjust to the North American style of play
This guy was amazing in his prime.. Wish he played longer so that rookie card I got of his would be worth more.. I know he left on bad terms from Vancouver but does BC still hate this guy? IMO his number should be retired yes naslund and linden were good but there was only one Bure.
@JuniorNationFan i'm not sure but probably because Canucks singed Mark Messier. Maybe good for audience but for results... Bure didn't want to be 1 of 2.
The context of the hit was determination... that playoff series vs. Dallas he was getting hit (often without the puck) to keep him out of the game. He got fed up and took it out on one of the guys running around... at 5'10'' and known as a sniper? Good for him... especially since he got away with it (ah, the good old 1 referee system :P)
@tm1394 > Bure had back to back 58 and 59 goal seasons for the Panthers and his stats indicate he belongs. Being a true Canuck doesnt make you a Hall of Famer, its your talent that does and even though his career was cut way short because of his knees , players with lesser stats and less ability are in. There is no telling what his total would have been if not for the 5 knee operations, but admittingly maybe he wasnt a true Canuck, but a great hockey player.
Bure is one of my fave players because he was dirty haha. He had the edge that made him who he was. Kinda like Fleury. Fleury had to be dirty at times to stay in the league as a small player. Bure had to play on the edge cause he was a walking bullseye
@tarimaa1 Normally what happens when you have a goal scorer is that he, well, scores a lot of goals. No one ever criticized Bobby Hull for being a puck hog. People just want a reason to complain about Bure because he was flashy. Would you have a guy who scores 50 goals try to pass? Or would you rather watch him speed past the D and score? I love how some people think scoring goals is bad team play.
@ARod016 , You don't understand my point, that;s great that pavel was a goal scorer, last time I checked it was a point for a goal and a point for a assist, how many times did bure try to take a whole team by himself? lots of time and he didn't always score. How many cups did Bure have? is Bure in the hall of fame? ask yourself this his was a goal scorer and that's all he was there is more to hockey then scoring goals, there's hitting, passing, grinding and so on it takes a team.
gotta miss pavel...made me jump out of my seat so many times, loved him
I am a huge Canucks fan and Pavel was always my favorite. He was so fast and could almost always score. I miss watching him out on the ice. He was amazing.
THIS... ...is magic! Watching Bures first shift make me shiver down my spine..!
Top 5 of all time. Such skill! Greatness.
love him or hate him, he was one of the best... Bure rocked
To the kids born around 1985... We all played hockey to be Pavel Bure... He was OUR Sid Crosby.
Wow, what a clip. We miss you Pavel.
magnificent hockey player, most exciting player ever!!!!!
One of the best players in the game! Oh and oy oh boy did I ever have a crush on this man.
The greatest ever!!!
Bure was the greatest canuck tks for posting.
Im 28, and this video brings back alot of memories for me... I listened to the canucks pretty religously on the radio (no tv) from about 91-94 and wow what an impact this guy had... I've still got the 94 final game on VHS somewhere back at the folks place...

I agree, cos I'm one of those people, never really seen it but watching this is just amazing
Most exciting player ever, no one is even close. Just imagine what this guy could've done in the new NHL.
I grew up watching him. In my opinion he is the best player ever. He was the best while he played, and he played when the NHL was the hardest. Before his time, the game was easier. After he retired, the rules were changed to make it easier. He was the best. (of course this is my opinion heh)
ONE OF MY IDOLS

Pavel is such an amazing player. How could anybody say they hate him? some people only hate him just cuz he demanded a trade.
i KNOW ITS ABOUT TIME THEY RECOGNIZED WHAT A TELENT HE WAS, TOO BAD WE MIGHT NOT HAVE A HOCKEY SEASON THOUGH, BUT TO ME HE WAS LIKE THE HUMAN HIGHLIGHT FILM OF HOCKEY, EVEN AT AWAY GAMES THE FANS STOOD UP WONDERING WHAT THE ROCKET WOULD DO NEXT, JUST AN AMAZING TALENT. tHANKS.

one of the best
Amazing That Speed *** One Of My favorite On A card.
I've been ignoring hockey this whole time (lived in Vancouver my whole life too) but I wouldn't have if he'd been a Canuck about 10 years later than he was... also, omg, he is SOOOOOO pretty!!
the best player ever to play in the NHL!
BEST HOCKEY PLAYER EVER.

this russian rocket kicks ass
no one can top it or pass
his greatness will out last
all of hockeys low class!
its a real shame that he got injured so many times, otherwise he could really made it to the books with all the other big stars :/ but anyway he, is my favorite hockeyplayer of all time!
speed, moves and smarts. so great.
The man was so fast it was sick. He could effortlessly accelerate to top speed in a split second. Definately the most exciting player I've ever seen.
the most electrifying player deserves to be in theHHOF. Nablo Bype ochenb xoposho :)
this is a great video and tribute to the Russian Rocket who belongs in the HHOF! He was simply awesome :)
that guy was my favorite when i was a kid. then he pulled the crap with the trade. I still love him tho. Sidenote: Biggest puckhog in Canucks history. But we love you Pavel
That's way I Cheered and stll Cheer for The Canucks!
every time i see this video i start to tear....someone pay this guy to come back to the nucks!!!!
BEST CANUCK OF ALL TIME,
I wish Pavel would have retired a Canuck, but I won't hold any anger towards him for leaving. It was ownership that pushed him away... not the fans.
That said, I'm also glad Henrik now holds the team record for points in a season!
legend
Datsyuks stick handling, Afinogenovs speed and Ovechkins scoring instinct. That’s the absolutely perfect hockey player.
Bure was almost this player.
Bure, Ovechkin , Maurice Richard best goal scorers ever
$32 standing ticket must be a gift
The grandmother of all elbows.
Who doesn't love to score?
both were great, u can't compare them, they both had their own style. Bure had the speed and moves, and Gretzky had the vision and ability to find openings and space where nobody else could. seriously u cant say one is better than the other, just say that they were both great players who were great in different ways.
Pavel bure was the best Canuck , Trever linden was the greatest. That's Indisputable.
He was so fast, he made the rinks look small!!!
People used to refer to Bure as the "Lil' Bobby Orr". Can't say it's not true, Bure is damn fast and handles the puck great. It's almost like watching Bobby, yet no one compares to Bobby.

russians are best individuals in hockey.
Ovechkin`s inspiration.
lol, i like Russian players because of the moves they pull, my second favorite player and current active favorite player is Pavel Datsyuk. My first fav. is Steve Yzerman. I also enjoyed watching Fedorov till he left :( but i think Russians are some of the best.
Marty's tremendous but IMHO, Hasek was the most exciting cause of how unorthodox he was. That's the best goalie I've ever seen. Just my opinion.
me too, him and brodeur
Ovechkin was inspired by Bure, and called him his hero, well afterall he was the "Russian Rocket" and now Ovechkin achieved his dream scoring more goals then him =P lets see him get back to back 60 like Bure did, that would be awesome =D
Man I man Bure, the Courtnall's, Ronning, Momesso, Adams, Gelinas, Lumme... and a youngster name Trevor.
He is the best player to ever wear a canucks jersey
Bure was my favorite player but I always get pissed when people bad mouth him since the canucks would have never made to the playoff finals without bure present. McLean was good in goal but it was buire who scored the goal against the flames and put out the leafs in that playoff year

well said!!
that's the Rhodes piano lick straight from garage band!....the music is a garage band loop lol!!
best player EVER
I mean "man I miss...:)"
@yummycocacola

i like that uniform
No Ovechkin is almost everything, he lacks the speed. If Ovechkin got faster...holy shit that would just make everyones jaw drop.
Thy forgot what this kid did for this Franchise ....... they still don't remember......
Bure was drafted 113th overall. That means there were 112 major mistakes at the 1989 draft.
whats the name of the song for the intro with pavel bure break away?
That's a good joke man. You're freakin hilarious
nice
right now the closest thing we have is Maxim Afinogenov, except Max cant score
This guy was amazing in his prime.. Wish he played longer so that rookie card I got of his would be worth more.. I know he left on bad terms from Vancouver but does BC still hate this guy? IMO his number should be retired yes naslund and linden were good but there was only one Bure.
friggen amazing

/heart/
@manuraiders because being in the HOF isnt about scoring the most goals, its about being the a true canuck...
Gretzky made the people around him stars. He was a playmaker, Bure was a great goal scorer but Gretzky still even scored more goals then Bure.
where did he go after canucks?? im english u c and have suddenly discovered an amazing talent!! hes so god, sorry i meant good!
lol
@tm1394 > Bure had back to back 58 and 59 goal seasons for the Panthers and his stats indicate he belongs. bure > anyone
@blindbrad11 His knees were wrecked from injuries. It's such a shame because he would've been still amazing if he were healthy.
3:13-3:23
whooosh!
Not many could catch the Russian Rocket.
Bure is one of my fave players because he was dirty haha. He had the edge that made him who he was. Kinda like Fleury. Fleury had to be dirty at times to stay in the league as a small player. Bure had to play on the edge cause he was a walking bullseye
pavel is definiley better than crosby i hope he comes back 2 the nhl SOMEDAY
does anyone know how Gary Suter injured Pavel Bure, giving Bure a torn ACL??
didnt he play for Florida once too?
Has Anybody Seen Larry ?
@tarimaa1 Normally what happens when you have a goal scorer is that he, well, scores a lot of goals. No one ever criticized Bobby Hull for being a puck hog. bure was a tank. too bad he had to retire early. cant blame him for wanting to get traded away from Pat Quinn.
Bure retired; had too many knee injuries it took a toll on him.
He would totally rip the Shootouts to bits if he was still playing, though.
And Kirk, remember the save against Robert Reichel?
Ovechkin doesn't have half the speed Pavel did.
Pavel was the best chance for a Vancouver Stanley Cup but management messed it up. I don't care about hockey until another Pavel comes along.
