I'm pretty sure Jingles meant "taco", as in the traditional Mexican dish, but point of interest and amusement: たこ ("tako", pronounced more-or-less the same way Jingles did in the video), means octopus in Japanese.
"Furious octopus" sounds like a perfectly good nickname for this many-turreted little monster to me.

Or you could use the adjective furui (ふるい) which means old. Old taco would be quite descriptive of the pre-buff Furutaka.

+The Hungry Wolf 足柄 I liked the pre-buff furutaka :) Okay you had to play it like a warspite armored with paper - but hey it was good (And it was nice to cit-crit phoenix and omahas). But the buff made it really great though

On the Two Brothers map I keep telling my team, at the start of the game, "DON'T RUN the slot, yet!" or "Ambush any Enemy ships trying to sneak through the slot!" and still some of them thinks it is a smart idea, even when I tell them "Get Back". I have watched my team, after my warning, send Destroyers, Cruisers & even a few Battleships up the slot. Fortunately no Aircraft Carriers from my team have tried it, but an enemy Carrier tried it once, right into the guns of my USS Helena (B), scratch one Flat Top & most of its Airplanes to my Defensive AA & Catapult Fighter.

Funny story about the infamous Two Brothers "Channel Dash".
My first ever game in my Koenig (a ship I've come to adore by the way) was on Two Brothers. Because matchmaking was feeling snippy, it dumped me into a T-VII game.
Stock Koenig versus an enemy lineup including Gneisenaus, Myokos and Nagatos? Yeah, I had neither the speed nor the range to make myself useful in that game... unless...
Since it was Domination and I was fortunate enough to find myself in a match without carriers, I decided to risk it. The channel was my only viable option to have any impact on the game whatsoever. Going around the sides was never going to work out for me, not in a Koenig with that kind of matchmaking.
I announced my plan in chat, the team gave their approval, and I proceeded and half-speed down the channel. This gave enough time to allow the teams to both disperse and position themselves around the flanks. It took me four minutes to creep through the channel, but by the time I got there I was free to capture the enemy spawn uncontested.
With that job done, I reversed back through the channel and brought myself in behind cover so I could still fire upon any cruiser or destroyer silly enough to cut across the mouth of the channel. As it happened, one of the enemy cruisers (an Atlanta) circled back to see about engaging the pesky destroyer who'd just capped their base. Four hits, four citadels. Devastating Strike.
After that, I proceeded full ahead and rushed out of the channel in time to catch a New Mexico with a hilarious ram. Sure, an argument can be made that I may have been more valuable to the team on one of the flanks, but capping the enemy spawn zone and eliminating two enemy ships before going down to the bottom myself fully justified taking the channel dash. The glorious Koenig can sure carry herself even when bottom tier.

I've seen delayed rushes work sometimes but out the gate? Also, had my Warspite look over and get the best feeling ever: 8 Critadels on 3 different ships on twin brothers in that little channel mouth; poor guys never expected that to happen.

  • @MuzzCat05

Great video! Unlike a lot of popular opinion, there is so much tactical and up to strategic (when it hits the fan) planning that is required to be an effective Japanese destroyer CO. In the end I can only remember one figure. 0.8km. The distance between the torpedo firing in a Japanese Tier 4 Isokaze destroyer and the detection range.

I felt a twinge of sadness watching that brave ship sacrifice himself for the sake of the win. That's some real Once More Unto The Breach badassery right there. He obviously knew he wasn't going to make it, but knew it was the only way to make sure his little destroyer buddy could make the win happen.

That North Carolina was dead the moment the torpedoes were spotted. It took them 15 seconds to reach him, even if he had slowed, and started a turn, the rudder shift on that ship, if fully upgraded is 15 seconds. Assuming he was going straight, he would have been in a full starboard turn the moment the torpedoes slammed into his hull.
Sailing the middle channel on Two Brothers is usually a pretty good idea, so long as you wait a suitable amount of time. Usually after 10 minutes have passed any defenders, have gotten bored and have either charged it themselves or faffed off to help their team on either the East or West. I sailed my New Mexico down that channel once, and usually take my cruisers down it (Cleveland in particular) and usually to great effect, once Im sure any defenders have left, and it causes some pretty good chaos amongst the enemy team.
That wasnt a St Louis that beached itself for the Wakatake to torpedo. It was a South Carolina. So yea.

In my Omaha, I went down that 2 Brothers central passage in late game. Both teams were halved and two injured allied DDs were making their way to the enemy base to cap and kill carriers. Yet a full hp Cleveland was on the watch, and the DDs were spotted by planes. I charged in, fought the Clev, sank but left him on 5% hp and the DDs finished him and won us that game.

I've taken myself in a Konisberg and my two division mates in Arkansas Beta's up the middle before. It's generally a tactic we reserve for final game of the day and it somehow worked perfectly. We killed everyone lurking at the mouth of the channel and spread fear and panic between the ranks of the enemy who all came scuttling back to see what had happened, only to get blown to pieces by the ships coming round the sides.

I've done the centre channel trick with a platoon of 2 others and we were all in Battleships, absolutely obliterated and divided the enemy team with our combined firepower and our friendlies flanked to mop up the rest. So not always but most of the time depending on your circumstances the middle channel is a bad idea, but sometimes it can pay off.

In regards to the Twin Brothers channel, in which most times it is a bad idea to sail through the channel early game. I once witnessed my whole team get taken out in less then 10 minute when the enemy team sent their Whole fleet up the channel. Our team had been slow to move and when it did half went one side of the map and the other half sailed east. My Cleveland and two destroyers where capping our flag when the first enemy destroyers popped up at the channel map. Between the three of us we managed 4 kills before the bigger cruisers, battleships and even their carriers showed up. What followed was a rout by our team. If its stupid but it works, it isn't stupid.

In Tirpitzes... between us we killed two cruisers and three DDs. Only one of which was killed by main battery fire, the rest by torps and secondaries. Taking BBs down the mid can work, but only if you're lucky and go full ham.

“The 70 Maxims of Maximally Effective Mercenaries” ... "43. If it’s stupid and it works, it’s still stupid and you’re lucky."(Howard Taylor)
But there is a lot to be said for calculated risks and guts enough to take them.

I do remember my best story of going down the narrows in a battleship. Me and Nagato, managed to steam all the way to the enemy base only to find an enemy cruiser waiting. Blew him out of the water in one shot, then all of a sudden a wild Kiev and Ranger appeared. You know where this is going.
Kiev rushed me, I turned away and decided to ram the Ranger, my secondaries beat the crap out of and sunk the Kiev, but not before getting some torpedoes off and killing me. The amount of "lol"s in the chat that battle is uncountable.

Me and my friend sailed battleships in between those two big mountains. It was his idea. There were two destoryers. My friend got blown up first. I knew it would end badly. I managed to take 1 of the destroyers before I went down. I was so close to destroying the second one but the torpedos were too fast.

Sailing down that strait in Two Brothers isn't stupid...if it's not done at the start of the game. It can work surprisingly well in around at least half the game since most of the guarding ships will most likely be moving to the flanks (especially if you have some scouting information already. If not...well, it's risky).

Going down the middle of the Two Brothers map in an Atlanta at about 7 minutes in will be just a DD slaughter and free base cap.

Slightly interesting. The British BBs with all the main armament up front were nicknamed the "Cherry Tree" class. I'm sure you guys can work out why from there :)

@BohemianEagle ; No, Jingles, it's not the fact that I haven't watched the new star wars movie yet because "I live under a rock", it's the fact that I'd rather pay the $1 price Redbox offers to watch said movie instead of over $20 in movie tickets just to see it at the local movie theatre

Shoting that Torps was risky, South Carolina could guess his position and try blindshot(i certainly would) to reset cap. In this case he could won with one lucky hit.
Two Brothers and valley of noobs. Yeah.
I was playing Omaha and with one random guy in Phoenix we were waiting on our end. Two battleships and one DD did try sneak through(One battleship was spotted by carrier previously entering valley and that was reason why we waited for it. Obviously its good idea to try sneak in, after you get spotted.), so i called for help and we waited.
Left side, turn around, right side, turn and repeat. Turkey shot. :)
They managed to sink guy in Phoenix, but i survived with many torp hits and two kills.
Even today you can sometimes see people trying it. Noobs never learn.

I've been playing the Fury Taco, it's good with either the stock 200mm or the 203mm upgrade, but they're slow firing and turning because of their size. So hunting DDs with those is painful and you do get some spread, so the commander skill to turn the guns faster helps a bit(not much since it's bigger then 155mm). Also, you have to keep calm, keep some distance(to avoid torps and make the slow turning of the guns less impacting). The faster ammo type change reload skill thing maybe a waste, I just empty the barrels of whatever while selecting the other type. That skill is more effective in the big bad ass BBs with really slow reload, but it will be a play style choice and some might make that worth it in the Furry Taka.

Jingles, don't forget you had a re-play from flamue (I think that's how you spell his name) on the twin brothers map. He went down the middle and sat at the bend in the channel to shoot bunch of torps into the team basically the full game... LOL (had to be one of them " well actually jingles")

Interestingly enough, unlike all other 20th Century gunned warships, the FURITAKA and sisters had a unique 200mm (7.9") -- not 203mm (8") -- gun. This gun size was only used for these ships and was replaced in later ships (not in the FURITAKA) by the 155mm (6.1") and, when these later ships were up-gunned, 203mm gun type. They also never had the later Type 91 AP shells (latest "diving" shell with underwater hit enhancements and optimized low-drag boat-tailed shape), retaining the mid-1920s Type 6 ("Mark 5" British-designed AP projectile used in all larger Japanese guns of that time), later altered into the Type 88 (first diving shell type without the later Type 91 low-drag shape) AP shell. Their regular AP capability should thus be somewhat inferior to the 1930's and WWII-era cruiser ammo, except for this special diving effect, which I do not know if the game includes -- it really should, as it can work well to cause flooding and possibly major citadel damage under very special circumstances if the shell hits a short distance short of the target and hits the lower hull like a small "AP torpedo". French post-WWI AP shells may also have this effect, but the enhancements for diving were not quite as extensive.
