Brilliant! Just watched your Refuge of the Roads vid, and now this. Again - the bass seems to be telling it's own story in the song and becomes another instrument to be heard. I've always loved the sound of fretless bass in a song and your vids are great as it is very clear over the track. The other KB song I can think of with fretless bass is 'Breathing' - again another song where the bass really is 'talking'. thank you for your amazing talent and efforts.
You are very kind sir! Yes "Breathing" is another great KB track, also done originally by the great John Giblin, who sadly passed away in May this year.
Christ, you're so fucking handsome. We watch this vid at least three times a week. The others too. Especially Joni a day Weather Report and Chris Rea, and etc., etc...
Out of all the Babooshka bass covers on UA-cam, you have fucking nailed it, my man. Gorgeous. And you uploaded on my birthday!!! Please tell me, did you use chorus? Also, what's the best eq? Sharp mids?
Haha, thank you so much! And happy birthday for the other day! Yes I used an old Boss CE2 Super Chorus, the eq was flat on the mixer, but with a highpass filter at 80 herz to drop out too many low frequencies. The tone controls on the Wal bass were set more or less in the middle so it is a darker tone than with them fully open, and it was biased towards the bridge pickup. To get that kind of singing fretless sound you do need the mids to be accentuated a lot more, and not too much low end or high end either as that just adds string noise and hiss. On my Fender Jazz fretless I tend to have the tone control just under halfway, sometimes I turn it all the way off and you get a kind of brassy sound, almost like a horn! Glad you liked my cover, best things

Played with such feeling, love the sound from the WAL.
Thank you John, Wal basses do have an amazing sound for sure.
Perfect intonation. Those sliding harmonics are beautiful on that Wal! Well done
Thank you so much Will. Wal basses are phenomenal instruments.
Never played a fretless but the sound is so good...superb cover of this wonderful song cheers
Thank you Tony. I love fretless, it’s really my “default instrument”! And Kate Bush always used awesome bassists.
Very nice, thanks much! That was first Kate Bush's song I ever heard.
You're welcome , thank you. I still have a promo copy of Kate's first album that she gave to my Mum before it was released. I've been a lifelong fan!
@@richftbass That's very-very nice! She's a real gem.

Thank you so much
Well played, sir, well played
Thank you so much Mark
Brilliantly ❤️👏👏
Thank you X
This is by far the best bass cover I’ve seen. And your tone. Dude you nailed it. What amp are you using??
Thank you James, I didn’t use an amp for this. It is the bass into a Boss Super Chorus straight into a mixer with flat EQ.
God. This brings back memories... You are so damned good!
Haha! Yes it brings back great memories for me too. Glad you like it.
Brilliant cover!!
Thank you Yanik. Please like and subscribe 😊
@@richftbass Done! Would be great to hear a fretted bass version to compare!
AWESOME Rich , the John Giblin bass line is great but lots of difficulties to be accurate in the treble .Respect for this difficult Fretless cover
Thank you so much Angy
Rich we want other covers
Can there be a instrumental???

Keep up the good work. :)
mokesweed evrytim thank you, I appreciate it, hope your friends like it too!
Great effort, fretless are the best
Thank you, yes indeed fretless basses are awesome
I honestly think mister Giblin could mistake this recording for one of his.....
Haha that’s kind of you to say, thank you.
@@richftbass You should think about a take on "Family Snapshot" by Peter Gabriel, another tasty one from mister Giblin!
Vanni Ancillotti that’s a favourite of mine! I will get round to doin more videos soon.
