    Roll them out, the way you roll them in. When you are pulling them out, you practicly are combing the curl. And put them in when your hair is damp! But you look good!!

      That's exactly what I was thinking, roll them out and that they would be put in damp hair.

    I’m an older lady and grew up putting my hair in rollers. It’s less cumbersome to work from the top down when putting them in; the clips go in at the base of the roller near the scalp, avoiding the crease. It’s completely different from the way hair is styled today. This was a fun video and a learning curve for sure! 😊

      I'm from the older contingent too. Agree, start at the top to get the right sectioning. I have baby fine hair shorter than Courtney's, so I would leave off the clips. Those dents are brutal in baby fine hair. And I kind of unroll the curlers rather than pull them out. Much less pain! I too like the movement and life using the velcros, but, if there is any humidity at all, the style flops and turns weirdly curly in hours. Not a good look, but can work for an evening out look imo.

    Velcro rollers are good for adding body and lift. They would be better if you put them in after each section when you dried it with the brush dryer, while it is still warm. Use the larger rollers, green or bigger. And pull the sections up, away from your scalp, to get volume and lift.

    From the older crowd, I used velcro rollers for years. I didn't use clips because it wasn't needed. I rolled when hair was 5 percent still damp for more volume and curl. Style top to bottom, unroll the same way rolled. I think I still have mine somewhere lol. Your hair came out really cute! ❤

    If you start with a "Mohawk" section (first roller at the crown, then section forward to the forehead in a straight row the width of the rollers), it's easier to section & set the rollers horizontally in rows below. And, yes, they work best when warm hair is smoothed & then rolled & left to cool thoroughly while doing something else. Think backstage pics of 90s supermodels getting big hair done by Oribe & timeless makeup by Kevyn Aucoin & Nars 😉

    When I was a child, my hair was very curly and wavy, and my mother took very good care of my hair, keeping it hydrated and clean, and we did not use any heat on my hair. I protected my hair, wearing a silk bonnet every night and when mother washed my hair, she would use a good shampoo now this was back in the 60s, she would condition my hair at each shampoo, and even during daily hair care for me, my hair would air dry with the curls and the waves without any products, but my mother would always keep my hair hydrated and back in the day I used spray bottles to spray my hair down in the morning, and then mother would not scrunch it, but she would fluff it up, and then put the curls in the waves in place did not wear a ponytail or braids to keep my curl pattern and wave pattern going, my mother said the ponytail holders were even scrunchies or anything to hold. The hair back will pull the curl pattern out, but mine was pretty tight. The waves were pretty wavy, but she knew how to take care of that type of hair pattern, when I reach teenage years, of course, the girls at school were using orange juice cans to roll their hair so when my mother would wash my hair, she would roll it up before it dried and the curls came back on the orange juice cans and it was straight, but very voluminous, I would wear it behind my ears or with a hairband, but usually by the end of the day, the curls and the waves would come back, and my mother died when I was a teenager and I continued my hair care treatment until I was 18 and I began to put chemicals on my hair at one time and it took the curl pattern out of my hair due to the chemical stain on my hair too long, since that time my curl pattern has not been the same but since I’m older now, my curl pattern and wave pattern are coming back so I don’t use mini products on my hair. I keep my hair hydrated and shampooed and conditioned just like my mother did a persons hairsays a lot about their personality and it is their signature in their parents, Courtney keep up the good work on informing ladies, and even men on how to take care of curly wavy hair

    Start from the top to bottom, and take them with a rolling motion. You are not supposed to pull them straight out with such strength. Gently unroll each hair strand strarting from the bottom to the top and it will not be as painful and harmful. Clips are usually not needed with velcro rollers, they are supposed to stay in place. If they don’t, try thinner hair strands.
    I also advice to take thin sections of hair near your temples (sections that are face framing) and roll them back from your face, holding the roller vertically. It’ll create a little bit more natural and nice framing motion around the face.
    I used to use thick rollers to create volumized blow dry effect, and I also used thin rollers to create tighter curls than I have. Used to be nice, I remember wearing tight curls from one wash day to another, and this actually proved to me that I had somewhat curly or wavy hair. They held any kind of curls so well.

    Try using on damp hair, less hair in each roller secures them without clips for me, unroll them, don't pull! They stick too much to my baby fine hair so I can't use them! You look great!!!

    LOL, that was so entertaining, beings I grew up during the roller generation (late 1960s, early 1970s). In the 70s straight hair was cool, or maybe groovy, so the curly haired girls tried rolling their hair on empty soup cans to loosen it up. I remember my older sister doing that, I didn't need to because I'm a "just barely wavy" which I called lumpy back then and the weight of my hair would pull most of it out. I remember my mom using little black rollers that had a brush inside them (think bottle brush) I can only imagine what they were like to sleep on! Thanks for the trip down memory lane!

    • @Cat-qo3ht
      @Cat-qo3ht 10 місяців тому +1

      I've always used clips with mine as they will fall out or slip out of position if I don't. The point of velcro isn't exactly to not have to use clips. Of yours stay in that's great, though 🌻

  • @Cat-qo3ht
    @Cat-qo3ht 10 місяців тому +1

    Also, you put your clip in the wrong part. It needs to go under the curler hair where it hits your scalp. You won't get the dent. You can also put the side and back hair in the curlers held in vertical instead of horizontal mode. Also, Unroll the curler instead of pulling on it, that will cut down on your pain.

    What a video to watch after thinking “Courtney kind of looks like Rachel from Friends”. You look so 90s actressy with this hair!
    The only suggestion I can add to the mix is maybe some holding mousse to help hold the style while you roll them out the way you rolled them in. I have no patience for rollers for anything more than bang volume when I have bangs though, so this was just fun to watch.

    Try the pink sponge rollers. What we used to do in the mid ‘70s to early ‘80s is wash our hair and let it air dry until it was just damp. Roll it up on the sponges and sleep on them. We had tight coils and curls that way. The only issue was the dent from the bar holding the roller closed and sometimes we could just put some water on a brush and brush that tiny little bit and it would release that dent. Much less time-consuming no heat involved and much better curls!

    You could wash and go. Then when you come back and it’s slightly damp, put in the rollers and you’ll do the same thing without heat. Then for over night, dry shampoo and then up into flexi rods in a tube sock (much faster than rollers). I use three or four “socks” depending on preferred “curl” tighten-ness. Then a place my bonnet over the back ones with the front one out.
    That’ll keep it lasting as long as a curly style. Specifically on the greasy level front

    I am the same way - hair styling is too hard! I can't blow-dry with a round brush. I can't do the curling iron wrapping and twirling I see on UA-cam. This is my EASIER, faster, better way with nearly zero damage, that looks great for nearly a week on me. After washing, (and sometimes applying K18 for 4 minutes), mask, conditioner, applying Living Proof Triple Bond and waiting 10 min, I apply leave-in conditioner (Pureology Color Fanatic), then a styler. I have always been a big fan of volume, which looks best on me, and I think looks great on everyone, and I recently found Color Wow XTra Large foam. Apply it generously on EVERY SECTION. It has heat protection, adds INCREDIBLE volume without dulling or roughing up the hair like most volumizers, and makes the style last forever. Then I blow-dry just like you did, rough drying first (I am careful to direct the airflow down the hairshaft). Damage is caused not just by temperature, but by RATE - how fast you are taking that hair from cooler to hotter, so I use low temperature and take a few extra minutes to dry it.
    Once it is almost dry, I use my cheap and ancient blow-dry brush, BUT I start with the TOP MOHAWK SECTION of my hair. Why does everyone start at the bottom??? I am like the only person who starts at the top, but I swear - it is FASTER, WAY EASIER, and BETTER! No other hair sections get in your way! So, I use my Wet brush to smooth a section at the BACK TOP of the mohawk section, then rotate the blow-dry brush fairly quickly over the hair section, so I don't heat the hair too fast. I DON'T want to see steam coming out. I wrap the section around the brush and pull a little tension on the hair (essential to get a lasting bounce and swingy shape), rotating as I go. I brush through both over the top AND under the bottom surfaces of the section a few times to smooth cuticle everywhere possislbe. I rotate the brush through the hair at the ends to shape them, similar to videos by GlamGirlGabi or BlowdryProfessor.
    Then, AS SOON AS the hair feels hot to the touch, instead of cool, I set down the blow-dry brush and roll the hair with a little tension around a round metal (or ceramic) brushhead with no handle, OVERDIRECTING the hair, and clip it with hot roller claw clips. No dents!! I MUCH prefer brushes to velcro rollers, because they don't pull at the hair like velcro, and are way longer in length, so I don't need to wrap nearly as many of them. Next, I work toward the front of the mohawk section, using my smallest-diameter metal brushes. I use 3 for the mohawk section. Then I work down the back center of my head, then down each side, rolling aout 2 more brushes in each of those 3 sections. Usually, I don't bother rolling the lowest section of my hair (out of laziness); I just smooth it with heat and then use the cool setting before I unroll the hair.
    I let the brushes cool for at least 10 minutes, longer if I have time. Note that if you do a good job overdirecting each section, the volume will be HUGE when you first unroll LOL. But it will fall a bit because of gravity. Also, remember when you unroll the hair, don't pull on it; ROTATE the brush/roller out of your hair. (DON'T rotate velcro rollers; their texture is too rough, so just unroll without pulling).
    This process takes me less than 10 minutes of work on my medium-texture, 8 inches past shoulder longish hair, and looks good for 6 days (with dry shampoo on the roots around day 3-4). 10 minutes of work, 6 days of good hair! I apply a few drops of Olaplex hair oil to my ends & lengths every day and pineapple it at night.
    Hair is shaped when going from wet to dry or hot to cool. So this method works best for lasting shape, because you wrap your hair around the brush/roller when it is at its hottest from the direct contact with the blow-dry brush, and then it fully cools around the brush. Also, you want to apply product with holding polymers (like the Color Wow), not jut heat protectant, BEFORE blow-dry-brushing. The polymers also help hold the shape when going from hot to cool. Spraying individual sections AFTER they are cool won't do much.
    By the way, I measured the temperature I need to hold a long-lasting style in my hair, using my gun thermometer. I have 2 other blow-dry brushes that don't get hot enough to smooth the cuticle or shape my hair, and they were around 110 degrees, and took forever to get there. The brush that works on my hair gets to around 150 degrees on the brush head. The hair itself doesn't get quite as hot as the brush. If it's not burning my skin to hold my hot hair, it's probably not too damaging to the hair, right? Dyson's website has info from studies about how much heat exposure damages hair - and it says that repeated exposures over 300 degrees, or 365 degrees, was needed to damage hair. My method doesn't get nearly that hot, and smooths the cuticle, which reduces damage from friction. My hair actually gets much more damaged in the summer when I only air dry (because I hate using ANY heat when it's already hot in my room).

    The end result looks great!! So pretty. By the way, have you watched Mel’s recent blowout video? It might give you an idea of how to place the curlers. Why do you need to blow dry your hair, then use the velcro rollers. To me, it is complicating a simple process. As a teen in the early 70's, I would wash and towel-dry my hair, then use the brush hair rollers (very painful for me to watch your process. 😅).
    Velcro rollers do not require clips. Next time, unroll the rollers you will have more curls.
    Cut the blow drying, roll your hair and let it air dry. Minimizes the damage.
    Love you!
