Hello! Absolutely right! In a stressful situation, the body will start to react the same way as in the previous stressful situation. All the techniques developed in a calm environment will evaporate, as if they had never been, and in the gym they will start to work again. On the street, sweeping children's slaps will dominate over the complex eastern technique of movements, if the last time a person fought on the street was in school years. In sparring, if the fight dragged on, I myself would break down and hit as best I could, just to get to him. On my own behalf, I would add that it is good to meditate by imagining extremely dangerous scenarios in a peaceful state. And from the techniques, I would focus on movements. The more different combinations of steps, the more often you practice them, the better.

I teach my students two crucial words "mussel memory", and the way to achieve mussel memory is by... repeat, repeat, repeat!
In a full out stress situation, the brain should be allowed to shut down and instincts should react to danger. (Only for the brain to regain control and situation awareness).
PS: That walking cane looks painful to be struck by, in any of the shown forms.

Present Tense Mentality. Instead of putting the technique into words and pictures in the mind, the movement reflects the timing, the beat, and the intention to do so. To live in the past is to be nostalgic, to live in the future is anxiety. To live in the present is freedom of movement.

    Grazie mille M° Dante

Bruce Lee also said the following about fighting in Enter the Dragon: “A good martial artist does not become tense but ready, not thinking, not dreaming, ready for whatever might come. When the opponent expands, I contract. When the opponent contracts, I expand. And when there is an opportunity, I do not hit, it hits all by itself.”

Ciao Dante, "you end fighting as you train" interesting that you in your demonstration put emphasis on the lateral strike, useful with a cane, and not in the point, useful with a sword. And a Happy New Year to you 🎉 Cheers
