As it happens (and completely unintentionally) I'm literally painting one of your sculpts with this in the background. Absolute legend, thank you for making so many absolute gems over the years.
Trish, I would like to take the opportunity to say thank you, because, well, you're commenting. Your sculpts, the amazing phantastic beasts of Warhammer 4th and 5th edition, when I started, will always stay with me, for their character really made them stand out. And you really did great work, elevating the design of citadel's minis in a time when they were often still more goofy than cool. Lots of love ❤
There are times where mental health is a lil bit hard to understand. And then out of nowhere THIS pops up. Thank you for all these astounding stories.. from the bottom of my heart. This hobby is such a blessing. Regards from germany!
This was a great discussion, I'm glad it was free flowing. I'm also glad things are getting better for women in the hobby. I'm trying to get into the hobby right now, I'm technically quite new to it although not new to the lore, I was buying models when I was a kid (or getting them as presents) but never got enough for a full army, and I was always nervous about painting. Now I'm diving in again over 20 years later, enjoying the painting and model building a lot so far (even tried a bit of kit bashing), but the games I'm a little reluctant to play. I do want to, but honestly gatekeepers just put me right off it. Today I braved to ask a question on a Necromunda Facebook group and got a full load of gatekeeper 'you should know better!' fired right back at me. It would be good to hear of some ways that people are able to circumvent the gatekeepers, I'd rather not have to encounter them at all to be honest if possible.
I loved watching this. Round 2 please! Definitely an Annie History channel! I've got nearly all of those Trish chaos beastmen sculpts, still not hot around to painting them after all these years. And Trish and Annie on Juggz please.
Been looking through Trish's GW sculpts that I cherish: C19 Lizardmen (still the best range IMO) C24 Troglodytes C27 Chaos Beastmen Stegadon 1996 Treeman 1996 Just fantastic stuff!
From what I have heard, it seems like those lewd-horned Beastmen were the Slaanesh Beastmen which got through all the approval processes somehow, but got noticed by someone in casting at which point management pulled the plug on that whole set! So they actually got cast up, but never released, which is why they even exist!
I looked into it (and got hold of one!) They were master cast and then spotted 🤣 so I guess someone at some point cast a few more up! The existing beastmen that came out of it had much less rude hats (the one Tom showed)
@@BadSquiddoGamesI love that some survived! I'm genuinely shocked that images of these NSFW models haven't appeared on the internet yet! (or if they have, I've failed at google! 🤣) Would be gold to see some painted up by you and @roguehobbies in the Oldhammer style!
I've been dying to listen to this since I heard about it happening some weeks ago, I've been following Annie since she started her Sunday livestream, Louise just before she left GW and Trish is a legend that I heard about decades ago and do follow on social media.
For something truly sweet, look up the poems that Romans and Greeks wrote to their dead dogs. One of the best is truly moving: "I am in tears, while carrying you to your last resting place as much as I rejoiced when bringing you home in my own hands fifteen years ago."
Fab interview, looks like everyone had a fun time! Trish Carden's horse-horse is so intriguing, I can't seem to find pics of it anywhere, does anyone know where I could find some?
Great stuff as always Tom, you’re like a big game hunter with all these amazing interviews, is there anyone left in the crosshairs?! Looking forward to whoever it will be…
Too many! Adrian Smith and I are planning on filming this year. Hopefully some other new names too. Still, there’s a bunch of people still at GW I’d love to chat with.
I love this video so much! As a non-native English speakers some parts were harder to understand than the typical Q-A-Q-A interview, but these conversations are where the most interesting things pop up. RE metal detection: I don't know in the UK, but in my country metal detectors users are very controverted figures because they are not archeologists, they only try to sell stuff and are more harmful than helpful to the understanding of the past. They ignore the protocols, they just take without context and most times don't bring their discoveries to institutions. I wouldn't encourage it at all.
Ill never understand why people are horrible to women in the hobby. Surely the more people in the hobby the better, no matter who they are! Everyone brings something valuable to the experience.
I was entertained by an example of gender differences here (or at least stereotypes) when talking about bog bodies. Sugs: the cute little baby was loved with it’s flower crown Tom: yeah! And the murders! Ha!! (the murderer was probably another of those top blokes)
As an historically male, I really enjoyed this round table. The idea of crediting the workers again is a great idea. If John Blanche punches you, I'm sure that the bruise comes in Zorn Palette. Big thanks to Filmdeg for these interviews.
I don’t want to get punched 😢 thanks you wonderful people. So happy to see the hobby reject the people that think women can’t hobby. I hope that this continues and we see the end of the bigot views and get back to having fun and being creative.
Brilliant gathering of three amazing people, loved listening to every minute of it and look forward to seeing Annie for her second birthday 🎂 🎁🎉 at VAPNARTAK in a few weeks.
One of my first contacts with miniatures were Julie Guthrie miniatures at a local office supplies store which also, for reasons unknown, also carried a small rack of various miniatures, from Grenadier, Ral Partha, Julie Guthrie and Mithril. So years before I found out about this thing called Warhammer, I had already learned that there were women making these toy soldiers, so it was never a source of astonishment to see people like Trish working for hobby companies. If anything, I've always found it pretty weird that some people find it weird that there are women in "our hobby". I guess when we were in our early teens we nerdy boys were maybe too shy to play with girls, but that was just a phase we went through. Maybe I was lucky to grow up in a society where men and women had (more or less) equal opportunities, in a community where boys and girls played together as kids, and in a gaming group where everyone was welcome. All these outside factors influenced how we grew up, and it saddens me that some folks grew up thinking that wargaming or miniatures are a boys only club, like the Adeptus Astartes. (A piece of 40K lore I decided to ignore a long time ago, sculpting my first female Space Marines well over 20 years ago, and no-one in our gaming club seemed to be bothered by this.) Cheers to Trish, Annie, Louise and all other non-boys for your (needlessly) hard work in this great, weird subculture and for showing the world that you don't need to have a little man to play with little men.
@roguehobbies Please metal detect responsibly - you can do a lot of damage to a battlefield unless you are part of an organised project to record the findings. But I'd love to see what you find when you do go out with it!
Someone called Trish… a tourist??? TRISH?? THE MOTHER OF MONSTERS??? A TOURIST??? Anyone who uses the term tourist really are just showing that they themselves know nothing about the hobby they’re pretending to be warriors of virtue for.
The comment section should provide us with a pretty simple list of who is and who isn't a miserable helmet we can all do without. Meanwhile it's great to have such a friendly and interesting discussion going on while I destroy my back putting up bookshelves.
Just so we're clear, I'm talking about how women havinng opinions on the internet attracts mouthy misogynist fuckwits, and how especially for some reason the world of fantasy and sci-fi toy soldiers seems to have more than its fair share. Are you objecting to that or did you miss the subtext?
@ So, to be clear, are you objecting to the criticism of online misogyny due to the tone of the criticism or because you feel offended by it? Or did you just completely miss the subtext?
@@johnnyexponential7229 I'm pointing out that the likes/dislikes and comments show nothing but support and you'd be hard pressed to find any Warhammer fan of any pedigree who doesn't love Trish's work. So what you've done is invent this little strawman to hate and then performatively done so. The hatred is entirely with you, entirely in your head. As ever, the supply of misogyny online seems to fall behind the demand.
I'm only a few minutes in, so maybe they talk about this themselves, but in a lot of Warhammer content now (esp. Warhammer+) they seem to be going out of their way to feature women, including trans women, so that's pretty cool. The interview with one of the writers for The Tithes was especially awesome.
Pretty sure if someone is bothered by women in the war gaming hobby, knowing how many women support or produce the products for their hobby will not compute for them. Apologies for for sexism in the hobby. Does not apply to all of us.
That was the most fun in the best company 😃
We’re gonna do it again sometime for sure!

Yes!!
Can we appreciate the organisation in a hobby space? The terrain on specific stacks, the various basing materials organised - actual jealousy
@@mattylumley5538 thanks, its part of my office 😁 its where I build dioramas for photographing the minis (sometimes even playing games)
@BadSquiddoGames This space is amazing, so light and beautiful. I love the plants and storage. Seems an amazing creative space.

Great stuff! Keep them rolling!
This would be great as a regular fixture at the Salute panels!
