When I was in Bantam I had to play house for a season (Family and monetary issues) and most of the players from the AA team that year got cut. One of them didn't make the A or BB teams and had to move to house as well. He gave me two concussions in one season. I would regularly get ~90kph wrist shots to the head and neck area, with less than adequate gear on (Monetary issues, I couldn't afford a proper mask until the end of the season). That was the only person who has caused genuine fear when I saw the puck.

Promasque helmets is a life savor. Although heavy, no concussions playing at a high level

Some good advice, if players sense your afraid they will focus on that part of your game
I quit goalie for a while because I use to have crappy gear a had no rib protection And got a slap shot to the rib bone😢
Yeah that's not fun, don't recommend it haha.
