  • HJC Symax 3 Modular Helmet Review
    www.revzilla.com/product/hjc-s...
    The HJC Symax 3 Modular Helmet succeeds the Symax 2 and comes equipped with some very welcome upgrades. The ventilation scheme has been improved with wider channels. The sun visor mechanism is improved and smoother, featuring two positions. The eyeport is wider now, with a pinlock-ready shield which is a big upgrade, and the removable mechanism has been improved. Beyond this, the helmet is a fiberblass composite weave with a polycarbonate chinbar and relatively lightweight for a modular. Fans of the Symax 2 will be very happy with the new HJC Symax 3 Helmet.

    There is an error on video: The Sun visor have three positions, not two. First two are directly managed using the lever. Third position is reached by pushing the release button at the same time as lever is taken further into visor down position.
    This seems to be prepared for better covering eyes while in the open position.

    HJC did not provide weights for S or XS, but the large weighs in at 1778 grams. This is one of the few modular helmets that can take the Sena SMH10. You will likely need to use the adhesive mount over the built-in door for the HJC BT unit, but it will fit well inside the helmet.

    @lensgrabber The rear button actuates the internal visor and the front releases the modular mechanism. Thanks for watching!

    I bought this helmet after reading reviews and watching this video. A week after it arrived, went on a 6000+ mile ride. Love this helmet. Would like the inside visor to be darker. Also had to learn to push button on top to get visor down to lowest position. Would like this changed in the future. Highly recommend this helmet.

    My dealer has recognized this problem with me and has returned to the HJC all his symax iii. After that I bought a r-pha max and there is no problem with that!

    I've owned the Symax, Symax 2 and Symax 3, as it seems to be the best fit for my head shape. Of the three, this one is hands down the quietest and most comfortable. I also really like the change to the sunvisor release.

    Hi. I bought one of these helmets about 6 months ago (not from revzilla). I was very happy with it; nice fit, light, lower noise than the symax 2. Only one but; the chinstrap is way too short and I sometimes have trouble threading the strap through the d rings. I said was.... A couple of weeks ago, the little plastic black parts that hold the chinbar in the open position broke. I can't use the helmet as I like. I've been looking and writing everywhere looking for spare parts to no avail

    I'm searching for a hi-viz open face helmet. This Symax would be a bit of a departure for me but workable. I especially like the visor as I hate sunglasses as I always lose them.
    Any other open face (with large cheek plates) hi viz helmets available?
    And/or are there other helmets with this visor feature?
    By the way...your videos are great! You guys know your stuff.

    you talk about the Blue Tooth but so many of us that ride Gold Wings us the J & M headsets. I recently purchased a Modular Helmet from a bike shop and had to take it back because the J & M Headset would not work without having to cut the bottom lip out and file into the helment to get the boom mike clamp on. I was just not going to do that. Will this helpmet work for us tourning guys that us J & M headsets?

    After owning it for around a month, the only bad thing about it is the sunvisor, it really doesn't help. It also has some noise issues but that's to be expected with a modular helmet. Would recommend to anyone who wears glasses!

    Anyone know what the square button on the front and rear do, if anything? The front is just under the vent and the rear just under the visor slide.

    Is the fitment and sizing of the Symax 3 the same as the HJC IS-Max BT? I found a large IS-Max 2 is actually a bit smaller than an older large IS-Max BT, as well as having more pressure on my forehead. So I'd be interested in the Symax 3 if it's equal in fitment to the older IS-Max BT.

    • @RevZilla
      @RevZilla  8 років тому

      +Rambler358 The Symax 3 fits similarly to the IS-Max 2. Please keep in mind that you were comparing an old, broken-in/loose IS-Max BT, to a new, tight IS-Max 2. I'd say the Symax 3 fits half-way between the older IS-Max BT and the newer IS-Max 2. -DrewZilla

      +RevZilla Thanks. I got to try on a new Shoei Neotech, and I liked the way that fit. I want to try on a Schuberth and an Arai, then I'll decide which I need to order.

  • @Smaug1

    How does it compare to the Nolan N104? I'm trying to see why the Nolan costs twice as much, but I just don't see it. I have a round oval head, wear an HJC CL15 now.

    • @RevZilla
      @RevZilla  7 років тому

      The Nolan N104 is quite narrow, while the Symax 3 is rounder. The Nolan is made in Italy, so it's more expensive to produce compared to the HJC, which is made more economically in Asia. If you have a CL-15 now, I recommend the Symax 3. -DrewZilla

      Thanks Drew. After more consideration, I ordered an Arai Vector 2 full face. (thanks also for your write-up on that one) Arai seems to think of everything.
      I passed on the Nolan because I like double D-rings; can't use most bikes' helmet locks with quick release. ;)

    Can this helmet's chin bar be in the open position while riding? Or does HJC not recommend that?

    • @RevZilla
      @RevZilla  10 років тому +2

      It can, but it's not recommended. The open position reduces aerodynamics and balance at speed. After a few minutes of riding at speed, your neck will most likely begin to fatigue. -Hi-Viz Brian

    what's the difference between symax and ismax?

    • @RevZilla
      @RevZilla  7 років тому +1

      Aside from a slightly different silhouette, the biggest difference is the fiberglass construction of the SyMax 3 compared to the polycarbonate construction of the IS-Max 2. -TeamZilla Chris

    They did a horrible mistake. Water comes into the helmet into the upper part of the visor!!!
    Look here: img339.imageshack.us/img339/7112/img082n.jpg

  • @Tarzanelly
    @Tarzanelly 12 років тому

    The helmet was badly made, the accumulated water along the upper seal of the visor flow into two lateral holes flowing into the helmet
    Probably if you're running there is the problem. But when you stop all the water dripping on the front of your helmet flow inside through the two holes.
    As you can see in this picture: img805.imageshack.us/img805/2455/symaxiiiwhite.jpg
    the holes are lower than the center of the visor
