- An effortlessly stylish recording by the Lew Stone band, with sublime vocals from Al Bowlly. This was the only British recording of this song, taken from the lost 1933 musical comedy "Born Lucky".

What I would give to see Al Bowlly perform this song.
Al is perhaps the most underrated singer of the last century
So charming!
Virtually every recording Al made is brilliant! This one is no exception. What a talent he was.
I agree - I also think he remains one of the most underrated singers ever to have stood in front of a microphone - it is an astonishing voice that was taken for granted - only now is that changing
I love the vintage posed moon photos!
LKayL1 paper moon photos are in definite need of a comeback
Me too!
Lovely, ‘effortless’ music making, so typical of the 30s. Love the romantic and whimsical images too.
It's total perfection in every way!
Great example of English Swing
Indeed it is! The 1930s was the best of British music.

I didn't hear a mellophone on this cut. I suppose on some other number from the same session. I'd love to hear Gonella or Noakes solo on mellophone, if they were comfortable with it. Hot Lips Page recorded some mellophone solos, and sounded wonderful doing it.
Gonella does on Roy Fox's 'Whispering', at the Monseigneur, 1931 - essentially the same band
as this.
George Scott-Wood's version is divine
