I have a Kitfox series seven & had similar results. I also put vg’s over the cockpit in line with the other vg’s as well as vg’s on the underside of the elevator. This improved elevator efficiency at low speeds. It did not seem to want to break into a stall. I added another line of Vg’s behind the original ones on the underside of the elevator , as a friend of mine had some added success in a different aircraft. This however brought back a very slight stall with a nose dip.
I have been a long time subscriber of your channel. I have been wanting to put these on my Kolb FireStar but was a little unsure of them. After seeing your video you have convinced me that I need to get them. Thank you. PS- where has Vikie been?
i have a Kolb Mark III Extra. I have purchased the VG's already but have not installed them yet. How did you determine how far back from the leading edge for the installation?
So far VGs on Rans S7, Lil Buzzard, and Rebel - all positives, no drawbacks at all. Increased aileron and flap effectiveness, slower and softer stall speeds and no decrease in cruise/max speed
@@mmatt So craptube deleted my comment but wingsandwheels has Z-Tape / Dimple Tape that the glider guys use, and amazon has PVC drywall corner tape that's full of holes. The drywall tape was on the Cheetah that I learned on, and it gave -500 fpm mush with no clean break with power off. 100% it's not certified lol.
Very nice...made quite a difference...I've a little time in a PA-11 w/ VGs; stalls were very benign, power on or off, and "mush stalls" were a real "Gentle Ben"! What powerplant on the ApolloFox, Rotax?
The recommended placement is 8-10% of the chord back from the leading edge and spaced 1% of the wingspan apart but I read somewhere online that moving them forward and spacing them slightly closer together gives better results so I went with 7% of the chord and 0.9% of the wingspan.
Morning Matt, we’re you able to assess the VGs in other flight configurations like climbing and descending turns and steep turns or just toodling (I think it’s a word) along in slow flight to see how the aircraft behaves?
@@quieteagle1656 I've got about 5 hours in the plane since I installed them. The plane feels no different or better in all flight conditions so far along with better aileron control.
It's not my plane. The owner doesn't fly it much and so he rents it to me so that it doesn't just sit and deteriorate. It's a really fun plane to fly and so I'm happy to help out with little mods like this that make it even better.
Hello Mr. Matt... I would like to know if there is any way to get in touch with you? If you don't mind, I would like to bother you with some questions about the Beaver RX-550.

Awesome reduction.

Saw you at the last CCS5 event. Very cool machine you got there. Very jealous!
I gotta say those things really made the stall softer and slower
Nice! didnt think they made that much of a difference! Thanks for posting this ;)
Looked good to me
They work well on the 701 and Savannah 😉

Nice! I got to fly with vortex tape and it does the same thing. You should put a set on the Beaver too.
Vortex tape...? I've never heard of that. Can you share a link or something so I can check it out? Thanks!

Hey Matt, great test, amazing what VG's can do, you fly a lot of aircraft what would you say is the most fun to fly?
@@mindfulmunchkin1215 So far anyway, my favorite is the Zenith CH701. Very responsive and yet still very stable.
