Mumbling to self is an integral part of any handcraft, I think. Glad to hear hubby's doing well, that's always nice to hear. My mom "imported" her husband from the 'states so they also do two thanksgivings too, usually they have yours here and ours there just to beat the rush!! I think they're even getting the neighbours in on it. Because as you said, more pie!
I'm the one who asked for Italy, and I'm so excited you found something. What a cool video and very interesting history. I guess it's a good reminder going into Thanksgiving that dysfunctional families are nothing new. 😂 Elewys, you are amazing, and this video brightened up my day so much. The holidays are hard for me and this brightened up my heart significantly.
I’ve known about the cloak but never the history. Thank you for the wonderful history. Definitely runes on the cards! Soo happy your husband is responding well. 🙏 May he continue to improve.
Thank you for the video and for including the history. It's always interesting to know the origins of things and events. Thank you as well for the family update and congratulations of your son's great achievement. My daughter has been working towards her rank advancement and will soon have earned Life. Such a blessing to hear the good news on your husband's progress, blessings...
Many, many thanks for your videos. I started card weaving a little over amonth ago, using your videos . I started with your Ladoga lesson, then 1,2, and just finished the lesson 3 pattern tonight! Looming forward to starting lesson 4 this holiday weekend! P.S.,I'm in the SCA too (West Kingdom). :-)
I am so glad Hubby is responding well! And again, congratulations to your son on the culmination of all that hard work! I am just about finished with a Birka weave and then have to warp up a commissioned piece...then on to this one. I cannot wait! I love everything about it. Thanks for sharing!
I'm a big fan of your channel, I found that thru weaving and beading I've become a complete different person, I'm always counting or saying abcd. My sister laughs when I do it because she understands, she does it too.
So good to see you, thank you for yet another wonderful video of sharing your life - so glad to hear the good news! - and your craft plus history lesson. The bands mean so much more, knowing their history.
Beautiful pattern. Thank you for including some of the history too. The rubber band trick is very handy, I also use rubber bands on the ends of my pegs after the warping is done. This helps prevent the threads coming off the ends when I'm advancing the warp, especially useful with wider bands.
Hello1. So glad to see your lovely self as you fill us with the pageantry of days and places we can hardly imagine! At this point, I’ve just seen the first part, with the history of the inspiration piece, and it’s so rich with detail, I’m going to listen to it again before I plunge into the weaving, So what I’m saying is, I’m skipping loom, fibers, tablets and patterns and going straight to tea. But I’ll be back!
So nice to see you again and I'm happy to hear, that you familiy is doing well !!! The pattern is really beautiful and the historic info behind it is very interesting. Actually, even being from Europe I didn't realize, that Normans conquered the south of Italy...no wonder that there are quite some blond-haired people in Europe's south.
So beautiful! Thank you for your videos! They are very inspirational and easy to follow. I have been following you for a long time and always look forward to seeing more.
Really nice pattern, will try it out! I use these wooden tablets. What I do when all the tablet need to be turned in one direction is devide them in two sections and turn both sections separate instead of turning them all at once. I love the wooden tablets. It just takes a little bit of getting used to.
I was wondering if there have been any historical examples of tablet weaving that use more than 4 holes. I recently saw a hexagon shaped card and wondered how modern that many color options would be. Thank you so much for your wonderful videos! You got me interested in wanting to learn this art form.
That is a beautiful pattern! You are so pleasant and so knowledgeable, I love to listen to you and watch your videos. You have inspired me to take up tablet weaving!
Sylvia has the hottest tablet weaving patterns on Pinterest, I've done several of hers. LOVE them! I like using small cards myself, very comfy in the hands, but the sheds can be awfully small.
If you're able to get Future floor wax (it's called "Revive It" now, I think) -- this is an acrylic coating that (fine scale) model makers use as a coat before putting down decals, to prevent silvering. But it's a good coating. It might help your wooden cards be a little bit more smooth -- if you don't have an airbrush, you should be able to brush it on then give it a light buffing. It's not period, of course! ; )
Beautiful pattern, thanks for sharing. As for your cards waxing: I don't think they need it. When i got mine from a card maker, he also gave me a sponge and suggested to sand them down occationally. The sponge looks a bit like a dishwashing sponge, but much finer and stiffer, especially on the 'rough' side. I did that only once when i got them new (many years ago). But he also suggested to oil them regularly when using, as they are untreated with anything. You can use specially made 'wood oil' or just use some olive oil. I oil down all my wooden stuff regularly (like bamboo cutting boards or my olive wood hair brush, etc) with just a piece of cloth, and include my wooden cards after using them. When you wipe the oil on with a cloth, you don't have to do anyhting else actually, just don't use them immediately after as the oil needs a bit to soak into the wood. And don't worry for the oil getting on your hands, olive oil is better than any hand cream.
Good tips! I know my husband has one of those sponge sanders in the garage (somewhere...he's in the midst of reorganizing), so I know exactly what you're talking about!
Mam, did you know that you just save a life? First of all, greetings from Indonesia.. Few months ago, I was in this depressed time. My mom passed away and my boyfriend went abroad then broke my heart. My whole world crumbled. I lost my foothold. I was planning to end my life.. My friends suggested me to seek for professional help. But it didn't help. I tried painting to distract my minds from suicidal thoughts. It didn't help either. I was painting an apple but it ends up looking like a tomato.. About a week ago, I found one of your video and it piqued my interest. I'm learning so much about tablet weaving from you. I watched more of your videos ever since. I brought threads and make my own weaving tablet.. The process is somehow relaxing and it helped me going through my depression. I couldn't be more grateful for your life-saving videos. Thank you.. P.S. Do you have any website recommendation to look for weaving patterns?
The cards did make me wonder how you would know which end is up. Tooting my own horn here but I just made 2" mahogany cards that have the holes labeled AND I have bumps on the outside sides (1, 2, 3, and 4) so that you know where you are. I also made a mini loom for travel and a mini shuttle to go with it. I would love to share the pics!
If you are not already, look for groups on Facebook like Historic Tablet Weaving, Tablet Weaving Sharing and more. Alternatively, find me on Instagram at Elewys_finchingefeld
Could you tighten the warp if you enlarged the 1st dowel (B), above the cards by wrapping it with a piece of thick paper? That may raise the warp that passes over that dowel a little and tighten the whole thing. Then you could slip it off when it got too tight. The tube from the center of a roll of TP might work well.
Hello. This pattern is so cool, id like to try albeit im a beginner (in rural Wales). Ive noticed you normally insert a shot of the whole pattern in one corner of your videos but this one doesnt seem to have that. Any chance of a wee edit pleass Elwys, to add the pattern 🙏. Thank you ❤
That's weird. Unfortunately, once I upload it, I can't make changes like that. :( I guess I'll have to do a *remastered* version! Thanks for letting me know.
I've been looking at/for wooden cards/tablets and I love the little 2 inch ones (I have some others that size but not wood). Where did you get yours, or can you tell?
@@elewysoffinchingefeld3066 Thank you. May be a merry Christmas to me from me. LOVE your videos. I'm not sure why I struggle so tightly with all of this, but I do. LOVE it but can tangle my brain in a nano-second. May have to stick to threaded in.
I just started working on this band finally and it is turning out beautifully. One question. As I am weaving, I noticed that the pattern is almost twist neutral but not quite there. The center most cards are slowly building up twist. How did you handle that with this particular pattern?
I created a "reverse" of the pattern that will slowly untwist the middle cards. The motifs will be mirrored but that will be almost undetectable in this pattern. I'll try to remember to post the pattern tonight.
What is the pattern of the band in the basket that has a teal, lime & white colors in the front row in the middle? Is it on your blog? What is the pattern called? Can we get a video for it?
That one is awesome! OK, so it's one of the Chelles Abbey pieces that has 9 motifs to it, and I made that piece as an experiment. I will definitely add this to my list! Maybe not all the motifs, but I can do one and then just post all the motifs and you all can have at it. :D
Spain, yes. Mexico...not that I'm aware of. They have some really impressive weaving all over the Americas, but I don't think I've ever seen any tablet weaving from there.
Oh, Editing Elewys is gonna get in trouble! I forgot to add the link. It's Vytuvatu on Etsy. www.etsy.com/shop/VytuVatu?ref=simple-shop-header-name&listing_id=662092154
I get overexcited watching these and then I scour the internets for a loom and wool and then I have to have a calming cuppa and look at trees.
