On a tangentially related note, I think the story of the red grapefruit is pretty insane. It was created using atomic gardening back in the 50s. The whole idea was that they'd blast plant seeds with radiation and see what fun mutations would arrise. Lo and behold one of those mutations was the red grapefruit.
Wow! I didn't know that. fascinating.
I sometimes mention that story when I run across somebody with an irrational fear of GMOs.

A red grapefruit was found growing on a pink variety naturally and the desire for a red strain led to the use of atomic gardening to induce mutations which eventually produced an all red grapefruit strain. The citrus hybrid theme is always very interesting.
And it also makes a big difference where the male and the fenale part is situated.
i bought one from, one green world with a fruit attached, when it ripen i was amazed how sweet it was .
This was the strain that did the best in my citrus to Mars experiment. I have grafted it to many other trees too. Great leaves dark green tone. I get 4" fruits x4 on a 4 foot tree.
I picked up this fruit tree from a local nursury 20 years ago and its a dwarf cocktail grapefruit which was explained to me as a cross between grapefruit and orange and after listening to you MR WEIRD EXPLORER it all makes sense. The fruit that i get is large and juicier than anything I have seen but the large amount of seeds per fruit [70] I use my Sunkist Heavy duty juicer that spins at 1750 rpm which I might add is very dangerous but effective to juice citrus. They look mostly yellow with streaks of green on outside and the inside looks like a orange but tastes rreal good. The juice is awesome and would be really great commercially. thank you for the post

I do chew on orange rinds occasionally - the aroma is incredible. Goes well with chocolate. I'm usually sensitive to bitter, but the pith isn't too bad.

Man, I love citrus fruits! It's so cool how you can combine them and get all sorts of interesting and delicious new varieties.
Makes me wonder if there are any buddhas hand hybrids out there... I love the shape of those!
Also the genealogy of fruit is so fun to explore, I recently went down a wikipedia rabbit hole on how plums and their varieties came to be. Never would have guessed they stem from sloes!

If you ever go to hong kong, look around in the jungle for Lime trees, especially around the dams. Theyre these tiny little ping pong ball sized limes that are EXTREMELY strong and limey, really delicious. Dunno what variety they are or if theyre a wild species, but we didnt see them in markets anywhere. We collected some and took back 5 in a little baggie, used them in drinks.
Should have planted the seeds, sell your own lines since they're a rare species, would make decent money.
Too many citrus fruits to understand... It boggles the mind. I could've sworn that there was a limit to it, but it's insane.

Jared, have you ever had the Honey Pomelo variety? I've seen it in asian grocery stores, usually the rind is light green in colour, and does taste surprisingly as its named.

Delicious fruit, only downfall is they can get super seedy.
Seeds are good, no seed fruits taste bland and like sugar water.
I am starting a citrus catalogue of all the citrus I have tried. I have a little notebook full of the stickers. I also will come out with a video of all my citrus trees I own someday.

This looks like something we call “dalandan” in the Philippines.
dalandan is the same as an orange I believe. In the Philippines and much of SE Asia the orange varieties availableare green on the outside.
Only from the thumbnail. If you look closer it has thicker skin and it's bigger. Dalandan are usually smaller and the skin is easy to peel. This one has skin like that of pomelo but very thin for a pomelo. Dalandan has more orange-y inside too. This one has the color of calamansi instead, more yellowy.
Now I'm craving for dalandan. How many years has it been since I had one...ugh.

I love this and your citrus sex videos! I remember only a few years ago I first learned that most commercial citrus fruit is hybridized, and my mind was blown. Prior to that I simply presumed oranges, grapefruits, and lemons were naturally occurring.

Intense fruit to eat out of hand....are we talking about the same fruit? Only problem I get with grapefruit is cleaning from the tiny seeds.

Im not a fan of bitter sweet fruit.
A true finger lime is not a hybrid. Blood limes & sunrise limes, which come from them are, but true finger limes are not.
I'd consider that citrus pedigree/genetics, not as catchy though. Citrus sex is boring unless you...um, like flowers and pollinators. And now I want a mandelo.
