Rio's knife cuts through reality boundaries like butter. You have to imagine, that weapon is the same weapon Rio would use to reap literal gods and whole realities when other deities get too rough with creation. Reminds me of The Subtle Knife from the 'His Dark Materials' series, exactly like slicing through the backdrop of a set. Also, you are the only person I've seen who recognises that the final trial was about personal growth, not just the green craft.
Yeah I suppose you could be right. I would just think if it were meant to be a super powerful weapon that it would’ve had more special effects when it cuts. I was sort of thinking it’s more simply that it’s Death and so the knife suites whatever purpose she needs. If she needs to cut through a reality - it can; if she needs to butter her toast - it can, haha. Also this show was one of the cheapest to make for Disney+ so having that cheap effect being so effective really helps out on the budget. Edit: I guess what I’m saying is that it’s because Death is the user is what makes it powerful or not. I think if you or I picked up that weapon, I don’t think it would be special - it’s because Death wields it that gives it its abilities. In other words, she is the one giving it the power to cut through a dimension or decreasing the power to butter her toast (to reference my earlier example).
I think it was also meant to show Agatha that the road is in fact fake as in a construct of Billy’s mind. Rio was saying in their convo “walking with a another woman’s child on a road that doesn’t“ and was interrupted by Agatha saying stop, but I think she was going to say a road that doesn’t exist.
Yeah, he created The Road, but there were so many clues dropped along the way telling us that. That’s the “tell” he shares with Wanda - they can both make their own realities. Spoiler from the next episode: Turns out there never was a Road to begin with. Agatha made it up to lure other desperate witches to steal their powers. This explains why she was giving Billy these weird glances when things would happen. I imagine going back and rewatching the whole series with this knowledge will lead to seeing more obvious signs.
I think Agatha was actually trying to manipulate Billy when she said “it should be me.” She was playing both on his heroic sensibilities and also the fact that he feels sorry for her and sees the good in her. If Agatha had tried to protest Billy turning himself in or tried to stop him, I think Billy probably would have gone through with it. But he realized that she had just been playing him, which is why he brought Nicky into it. And then only in that moment did Agatha actually decide to sacrifice herself. It’s interesting because at first I definitely thought Agatha was being genuine when she said it should be her… but I did think it felt a little cheesy in a very “classic Marvel” kind of way? Like it felt like the heroic sacrifice we would have expected from a character like her in Marvel. Upon rewatch, I think it was on purpose and Agatha was playing into Billy’s expectations. It seems crazy that Agatha would try to trick him into sacrificing himself after everything, but I think from the perspective of Agatha’s character being a survivalist who’s been around for hundreds of years - the crazier thing is actually that she sacrificed herself for a kid she basically just met.
These last 2 episodes were amazing and I NEED A SEASON 2 LIKE RIGHT NOW
Edit: sandman is a great show

@ She is well aware The Road is not real.
Rio cutting Billy's reality is amazing

A really, really amazing episode I think
Thank you, Ethan! 🧙♀
