Emonda ALR 56 cm frame is about 1050 gram. (fork full carbon with steerer from SL model) It fits 28 mm tires and its in Factory Racing red painting. ALR is a little hidden gem, give it a try if you haven't rode one yet, smooth, stiff and affordable alu bike with complete group set.
By "affordable" I meant that ALR alu bike behaves pretty much as carbon version of emonda. I have tried SL and ALR and there wasn't much difference of comfort and how much muted the buzz from the road was (both had 25 mm tires) other than that, light, super stiff and you can save the cash for helmet or other extras if you are on limited budget and want to have really great performing road bike.
eh. . . excuse me. . . the carbon is 690 or less. so alr is bad because it is more wt. thx. ps: hi speaking of bikes: should I buy the emonda slr 9, or the s works tarmac? thx.
I have the Emonda 300 series aluminum with an ultegra groupset and my friend has a carbon one. Honestly you cant really tell the difference they both handle great and are super lightweight. They are really awesome bikes. I like it more than some of the previous carbon bikes I have owned.
Parameterised optimization: change several variables to determine optimal strength to weight ratios(used in conjunction with Finite element analysis) Finite element analysis: uses small segments of a body with applied forces and constraints to determine stresses/strains so you can design an efficient system. Then you don't need to prototype as much :) I know that you didn't ask for an explanation, but I figured a little nerding out is always a good thing! Cheers!
I have a 2020 SL6, and it's one of the most amazing bikes I have ridden. That being said, my last bike was Kona Jake the Snake from 2006, and it was sized for someone 173cm tall. I'm 185cm. Can't tell if it's having a professionally fit bike in the right size, or if it's the bike alone. Probably both. Who cares, it's amazing.
These guys have the best job ever. Every time I see these guys get to ride the best cycling industry has to offer I realise how much I want that dudes job
Niels Heldens since it's the worlds edible insect day on the 23rd October, I thought I'll buy myself a proper bike then. Sick of displaying the lung capacity of an asthmatic ant on my current bike lol
For those of us in the market for a cheaper Emonda the new 2018 range is awesome. You get an SL for the price of an S. I've picked up a 2018 Emonda as my first ever drop bar bike and damn I'm glad I wasn't buying 12 months ago.
The frame is light because the resin molecules have a Endoplasmitc Modular Bi-Fortication structure We can determine how the resin molecules change during the braggadocio isomorphic poststructalist justification process thd(τ+1) THd(τ) = − ' ∇E| w(τ+1)(T Hd(τ) + β(τ)d(τ) THd(τ) + (τ+1)
Just by looking at this video I'm able to tell that the carbon fiber construction and layup yields a frame that's laterally stiff yet vertically compliant.
That's one sweet looking bike. If I get a good deal I'd even consider getting one despite internal cable routing and a proprietary "seat post". And Si, at 6:10 it's "combination". "Permutation" means the order matters
Andrew Mollerson Actually didn't need it any lighter. My 14lb "practical" SLR puts every ounce into the BB now, and it takes concentration on the descent or on bad pavement. It's a bomb in a sprint, and actually fun in the rolling hills. Great for climbing. On trashed roads I like the Madone handling better, it's more forgiving. My opinion is that this is about as far as you can get from a gravel bike, despite the wheel clearance. You can however go wider to help tame the descents and bad pavement if you're not sprinting uphill. Those discs need to be lightened, you're wasting $$ on a climbing bike with discs.
Roger Honacki I also have a SLR and I agree 100% on your assessment of the ride & handling. It is a fantastic bike on smooth roads. When I know I'm going to be going to ride in areas with less than pristine pavement I take my Domane.
has the frame weight been confirmed. I'm always disappointed when I go buy a product according to the claimed weight, but once I get it home and it weighs more.
Id say because its a stiffer bb area and you can use any 24mm crank. nothing really proprietary about bb90 except the bb itself. only thing you cant use is bb30/bb30a/386evo cranks...which, why would you want to?
I know what you mean. You aren't stuck with Trek for those though. See who makes them: wheelsmfg.com/bottom-brackets/trek-bb90-95.html The reason is the 37mm external diameter of the bearings fit into the frame. New bearing specs are based on design and performance goals of frames. The end result is more important than 1 part is the idea. Keep riding!
I don't. At least for the crankset. Their cranksets are starting to all look the same. Sora 4700 looks like R9100.. Gross. 9000 was noticeably different to their lower end models. And that is what made it aesthetically unique.
Agreed - I just built up a 2021 Emonda ALR (rim brake version of course since I live in SoCal and it never rains here), and I'd put it up against any bike out there, regardless of price point, material, weight, "aero", etc. Mine comes in at 15 lbs/6.8kg (could make it close to the 14 lb/6.4kg mark if I wanted to spend a lot of money, but 15 lbs is light enough), and is the best all around handling and feeling bike I've owned or ridden since I started riding road bikes in the late 1980's. It's one of those hidden gems.
Global Cycling Network will I be able to afford it a life question im asking for everybike reviewed in gcn maybe u guys should review decathlon's btwin bike brand so we can see how good they are
Oh god yes. Absolutely love those uninterrupted seatstays, they flow so nicely. Also, that concave patch on the toptube near the seatmast looks great. I'd say it's like the dimples in the cheeks of a beautiful woman, but then i'd be getting a bit Swiss Toni. I guess i just got a bit Swiss Toni.
Thank you for the Test. but I have a question: I can not decide between: 1- Trek Emonda SLR 7 Disc, Ultegra Di2 or 2- Men's Tarmac Disc Pro , Ultegra Di2 A--> Which one would you recommend to me? B--> Trek Emonda SLR8 is good but don't have Di2, but Durace- Would you take SLR 8? Thank you
nice video! can you make a video on the best ways to protect your bike when living in the city and travel down town and have to lock their bikes up and leave it unattended for a couple of hours.
Hi, thanks for the informative video. What did you think of it? I would like to see a comparison between this bike and the new Gant SLR disc and the Specialized Tarmac disc .
My aero disc comes in at 7.8 but i'm running full mechanical not the latest groupset DI2 which would shave off 400grams. It's a very nice bike but you pay a lot for maybe saving 300 grams over similar bikes.
Looking at the SL5 version of this for my dream bike. If all goes well I should be able to afford one in about a year from today. I'll comment if I can really get it or not.
Looks like great bikes and I'm sure they are pefectly fine bikes but the weight differences between SLR and SL is 451 grams...yes, you read that right. Smart move from Trek - promoting the SLR as really light (which it is) and then attract customers to buy the SL (which is not light at 1091 grams).
PER AM ETAER IZED Optimisation- They change one parameter (Lenght or thickness of a tube etc) a bit till optimal, then another perameter, then another paraemter to get the best out come is my guess
Too many fancy terms and incessant marketing, not enough riding! C'mon Si tell us how it rides! At our cycling level for mere mortals a few grams will not make a difference haha
At least for once a brand said how stiff a bike is, instead of saying how much % stiffer it is compared to other bikes, because well, that doesn't mean anything, if you don't know how stiff the bike used for comparing is. Whilst now finally we know exaclty how stiff it is.
ClarkyXPH disc vs rim and h1 geometry (less material) vs h2 on disc bike. Probably lighter wheels on pro bike since they aren’t disc. That’ll all add up pretty quick
This is my first road ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA and I have taken it out a handful of times and so far it is exceeding all of my expectations. I didn’t want to break the bank on a first bike and the herd is a great option for getting a fast bike with reliable components. I plan on riding this bike for many years to come. Thank you Sava!
Do a video that talks about the 3 Trek lines, Madone, Domane and Emonda, and outline the true purposes and differences of each
Emonda ALR 56 cm frame is about 1050 gram. (fork full carbon with steerer from SL model) It fits 28 mm tires and its in Factory Racing red painting. ALR is a little hidden gem, give it a try if you haven't rode one yet, smooth, stiff and affordable alu bike with complete group set.
MisterEM01 I don't really think an ALR is "affordable" Check the CAAD 8, CAAD Optimo, Allez and Scott Speedster.

MisterEM01 can you please shoot me a text . I’m so confused between them two bikes. I need some info from someone who has rode both. 4702760653

I achieve finite element analysis every weekend!
....so basically what they've been doing for years anyway
I have a 2020 SL6, and it's one of the most amazing bikes I have ridden. That being said, my last bike was Kona Jake the Snake from 2006, and it was sized for someone 173cm tall. I'm 185cm. Absolutely love riding my 2017 Trek 'Emonda SL6 ... superb bike and super light as stated.
Just waiting for the day I can afford a bike like this.
So, the 42nd of Jantober 2018?
Niels Heldens since it's the worlds edible insect day on the 23rd October, I thought I'll buy myself a proper bike then. Sick of displaying the lung capacity of an asthmatic ant on my current bike lol
Ants don't have lungs :P
Niels Heldens yup they breath through spiracles on their bodies.
Niels Heldens I'm thinking of selling my kidney and buying a new bike ... probably a BMC Team machine 😅
I think we need an unboxing...maybe giving away one of each type?
They should hire Oprah. You get a bike, you get a bike, everyone gets a bike!!
Niels Heldens Ellen, all viewers for this video get a bike.
this bike has weight limit, all Oprah's audience are overweight middle to upper class white chicks
I have an Emonda SL8 and it is terrifyingly light.
Great bike. Not loving Trek's stock colors though and they charge a small fortune for some of the P1 color options.
I love it, please do a show with the trek crossgrip 2
For those of us in the market for a cheaper Emonda the new 2018 range is awesome. You get an SL for the price of an S. I've picked up a 2018 Emonda as my first ever drop bar bike and damn I'm glad I wasn't buying 12 months ago.
People moving in awkward slo-mo in the background at 2:04
Rear brake: disc brake (hydraulic)
Front brake: rim brake
On a roadbike a front disc brake never looks as good as a rim brake in my opinion.
Carbon disc wheels look pretty darn nice though!
Gt George. Nah, its just full of hot air.
Gt George That's forticating amazing.
*Looks at wallet*
Wallet to me: DON'T YOU EVEN FUCKING TRY!
Niels Heldens LOL, this comment is pure gold. 😂😂
No, it's a mix of insanity, social anxiety, chanel no. 5, Asperger's, hard training and memes.
Good lord, that is one heck of a bike.
So you got to ride the bike but zero mention of any impression?
1of these, a BMC Road machine disc and a Cannondale Slate for gravel racing.
I have a first gen Emonda and it is already silly how stiff the bike is and they went and make it more so? Crazy.
Andrew Mollerson Actually didn't need it any lighter. My 14lb "practical" SLR puts every ounce into the BB now, and it takes concentration on the descent or on bad pavement. Excellent optimal edgification
I got one at Halfords in the summer sale last week.
has the frame weight been confirmed. I'm always disappointed when I go buy a product according to the claimed weight, but once I get it home and it weighs more.
Why, at 6:15 is it a good thing that they use Trek's own BB90? Proprietary components are rarely a good thing in my book!
Id say because its a stiffer bb area and you can use any 24mm crank. nothing really proprietary about bb90 except the bb itself. only thing you cant use is bb30/bb30a/386evo cranks...which, why would you want to?

Unpopular opinion: I like the looks of the new dura ace
I actually agree with that. The black cranks suit almost every paint job.
Polished silver Campy for the win! On a yellow frame like Pantani's late Carrera!
Lite Roadie I am not a fan of how campy works, but hell they make beautiful shifters.
I don't. At least for the crankset. Their cranksets are starting to all look the same. Sora 4700 looks like R9100.. Gross.
9000 was noticeably different to their lower end models. And that is what made it aesthetically unique.
Not unpopular with me! I just put 9100 kit on my 2016 Supersix Evo. I did stick with the Cannondale spidering though.
So this bike might give the Cannondale SuperSix Evo Disc a run for its money! Now I just need to decide which one to buy this Fall...
That neck swing is just spicy...
i'd feel so good cycling this bike knowing that it's so light and well engineered, but i just can't afford it :(
For the rim break i can take this and its still lighter than a bag of sugar, what a good time to be in the marker for a new bike ;-)
Now looking forward to some great discounts on the previous version.
Ive ridden all the Emondas and the ALR is the stiffest and most racey feeling. I bought one.
What up Harley ✌🤙
Agreed - I just built up a 2021 Emonda ALR (rim brake version of course since I live in SoCal and it never rains here), and I'd put it up against any bike out there, regardless of price point, material, weight, "aero", etc. Mine comes in at 15 lbs/6.8kg (could make it close to the 14 lb/6.4kg mark if I wanted to spend a lot of money, but 15 lbs is light enough), and is the best all around handling and feeling bike I've owned or ridden since I started riding road bikes in the late 1980's. It's one of those hidden gems.
i'd be happy with just a 105 version of the emonda sl
Now that is a nice bike.
Impressive weight for a stock disc model. Truthfully though, I have a hard time noticing the weight difference in most bikes under 8kg.
DAAAAM - IT Si!!! My 2016 P1 SLR DA Di rim bike is going on the auction block.....cuz me NEEDS a TA 28mm disk bike.
I'd love to see Taylor Phinney's Cannondale Slice!
wow what a bike
Unfortunately they have not cleared the junction box
Still a nice bike :)
let us know what you think of the NEW Trek Émonda range in the comments below 👇
Global Cycling Network will I be able to afford it a life question im asking for everybike reviewed in gcn maybe u guys should review decathlon's btwin bike brand so we can see how good they are
Global Cycling Network they've definitely dumped some weight off the old Emonda as well. Beautifully crafted, beautifully painted.
Also whenever you do these reviews, it would be cool if you included the price points as well, out of curiosity.
That sl version isn't that light. That's the same weight as a cervelo S3, which is an aero bike that's a similar price
Me: "I don't need it… I don't need it… I don't need it… … … I NEED IT!"
My bank account: "NO."
That pretty much sums it up
For sale: liver.
I bought an SL one year ago. Now, for the same price- or less, I could have those incredible direct mount brakes!? FML
I don't mind the obvious sponsored content but com'on using their own bb is a good thing? Do you remember the video you made about the bb nightmare?

A--> Which one would you recommend to me?
B--> Trek Emonda SLR8 is good but don't have Di2, but Durace- Would you take SLR 8?
Thank you
Could you make a similar video on BH's newest Ultralight Evo? This bike is so interesting, especially on its price range...
nice video!
can you make a video on the best ways to protect your bike when living in the city and travel down town and have to lock their bikes up and leave it unattended for a couple of hours.
I have a 2015 SL6. It's the most balanced bike I have owned. A pleasure to ride. I'm not looking to trade up, but if you are, don't hesitate.
I sold my Emonda for a Ridley Helium SL and have never looked back.
Hi, thanks for the informative video. What did you think of it? I would like to see a comparison between this bike and the new Gant SLR disc and the Specialized Tarmac disc .
how about a new emonda alr? can we expect it soon?
Marcin Nadzieja o
Nice job Trek, but Specialized's Tarmac SWorks Ultralight is spec'ed at 6.2kg stock.
The new Specialized Tarmac claims 6.170 kg, I'm looking forward to your test of it .
What about the ALR ? One of the lightest aluminum bikes on the market!
Nice bike!😍😍
If only it came with 11x32 cassette
I lied, I have a Giant SL0 Di2 Dura Ace. I would smash this
My aero disc comes in at 7.8 but i'm running full mechanical not the latest groupset DI2 which would shave off 400grams. It's a very nice bike but you pay a lot for maybe saving 300 grams over similar bikes.
Looking at the SL5 version of this for my dream bike. If all goes well I should be able to afford one in about a year from today.
I'll comment if I can really get it or not.
Rizki Hadiaturrasyid how is it going?
Don’t buy new. You should be able to find these floating around almost new for half price or less.
Looks like great bikes and I'm sure they are pefectly fine bikes but the weight differences between SLR and SL is 451 grams...yes, you read that right. Smart move from Trek - promoting the SLR as really light (which it is) and then attract customers to buy the SL (which is not light at 1091 grams).

looks a lot like the trek madone from the days of the "Lance comeback".
I just fell in love.
I wish I can have that type of bike.... :)
Emonda SL: rim brake frame 1091 g plus fork 436 g. LOL
MOM, I know what I want for my birthday!!!
hi gnc: should I buy the emonda slr 9, or the s works tarmac? thx.
It's amazing
What are your thoughts on the Emonda ALR 5 and 6?
Too many fancy terms and incessant marketing, not enough riding! C'mon Si tell us how it rides! At our cycling level for mere mortals a few grams will not make a difference haha
GIANT Emonda TCR ;-)
Can you guys review the ALR series for us budget people? I would like to hear your guys opinions on it. Cant afford the s series. Thank you
How big was the chainring on contadors bike??
Project 1 paint scheme you say? Did Lasty design it?
the bicycle in the video is the H1 or H2 version ?
At least for once a brand said how stiff a bike is, instead of saying how much % stiffer it is compared to other bikes, because well, that doesn't mean anything, if you don't know how stiff the bike used for comparing is. Whilst now finally we know exaclty how stiff it is.
Did the great Tom Last design the paint job?
What is that white one's model name and year?
my dreambikes are Trek Emonda, Trek Madone, and Birdy (yes, the foldie)...dreams are free xD
im 5'4, would this bike fit me?
the disk brakes looks like ninja stars
did you ride the bike in düsseldorf?
Hey Si, how is the pro bike 1kg lighter than the retail version?
ClarkyXPH disc vs rim and h1 geometry (less material) vs h2 on disc bike. Probably lighter wheels on pro bike since they aren’t disc. That’ll all add up pretty quick
what is the colours of this project one?
oh look another stealth looking bike
is that a hole in the rim wall at 1:25
apart from a 60kg when wet snapper, who's going to buy a retro calliper braked bike when discs are so much better operating and looking.
Is this the H1 or H2 geometry?
But.... Who designed the paint job?????
Ernest Paul looks like someone from Giant did it. and that is not a compliment.
Lasty designed the paint job, which was designed by Lasty.
It's a great paintjob, did I mention Lasty designed it?
Leonardo acropolis
Hi! Is it a H1 or H2 fit?
Did Lasty design the paint job?
Will you guys livestream the tour de france? Where can I Watch it live?
+gabriel alvares afraid we won't be
Beautiful bike, but that top-tube looks painfully long.
David Hanny The Emonda does have a longish top tube. You can size down, or use a shorter stem as I did.
I'm not a biker but I really like to get one bike like does model
This is my first road ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA and I have taken it out a handful of times and so far it is exceeding all of my expectations. I didn’t want to break the bank on a first bike and the herd is a great option for getting a fast bike with reliable components. I plan on riding this bike for many years to come. Thank you Sava!
1:24 is there a hole in the rim below the valve?
+Nick Kukoreko yes, that will let water out of the rim. Cheers Jon
The more you know. Thanks Jon.
nuts 6.4k is pretty darn light
Still not as light as your wallet after you bought one.
2:03 , why are those men at the background walking weirdly? Lol
