Sigulda Open 2018, Sigulda
Blitz chess (also known as speed, chess blitz or fast chess ) is a type of chess in which each player is given less time to consider their moves than normal tournament time controls allow. Openings, tactics and strategy are same.
The French Defence is a chess opening characterised by the moves:
1. e4 e6
This is most commonly followed by 2.d4 d5, with Black intending ...c5 at a later stage, attacking White's centre and gaining space on the queenside. White has extra space in the centre and on the kingside and often plays for a breakthrough with f4-f5. The French has a reputation for solidity and resilience, although some lines such as the Winawer Variation can lead to sharp complications. Black's position is often somewhat cramped in the early game; in particular, the pawn on e6 can impede the development of the bishop on c8.

When Shirov played g5 the guy nearly jumped out of his seat.
did i leave the oven on?
31 active moves from black; three from white (e4, d4, Qb7).
Very instructive game. Amazingly played by a legend.
Shirov's opponent: "Ha, he's having trouble coming up with a plan!" Shirov: "I think after I win this game, I'll grab a bite to eat and maybe go to a movie or a show."
Shirov must be visiting Planet Ivanchuk in this one lol.
thats a good one, LOL, EEH I DECLINE HANDSHAKE SIR ERRHH!!
15:40 Had a pawn centre like that once.....that's once, in over 35 years of playing!
Castling looks rather cool here.
I can't see the game
I'm awestruck. How did white's game go downhill so suddenly? He fell off his chair when g5 landed, perhaps?
11:28 Qd2 is when white messed up. He cannot go cxd4 because of Bb4 pinning the queen. He has to compromise on his strong centre. I could literally hear the white centre go "CRUNCH!' at that point. And when Shirov pushed f5+e5, you know white is dead. Shockingly, black has little to no weaknesses even after pushing all those pawns!
Also, at 14:22, Shirov missed a nice win with....d4! attacking e3 bishop and effectively trapping it. If white takes twice on d4, ...Bb4 pins and wins.
Detherocable After Bb5-d3 black can win a piece with d4!
@@cordekker9140 Where are you referring to?
Congrats you know how to use stockfish.
The white player is apparently below 1800 (maybe first or second round of an open event) so it's likely that Shirov was just having fun with this to some extent. It's amusing to me how unconventional Alexei's play is at times. Beginners are told to focus on king safety and generally to avoid moving the pawns in front of the king. The image of Shirov castling queenside behind an advanced wall of pawns here was one of the most unusual looking things I have seen on a chess board.
In first 6, 7 moves Shirov was like :"where am I, what am I doin' here?". Then he showed how to play French Tarrasch with Black.
Shirov is gazing off into space seemingly disinterested in the beginning of the game. Must be a nice looking chick off to his right! LOL
Sometimes Shirov came back to the game...otheweise was he away:)
Bella partita.
Not looking ...pretending....
Tricky...
makes me want to play the French
amazing
What was Shirov looking? 😅
16. ... d4!
WTF is he looking at? Searching for help by a GM?
Is this you call rapid chess, so what would you call slow chess then?
Classical chess
...1 e6 no good?!
Waw !!
Shirov's main problem in the game is that he needs a good stiff vodka; that's why he looks so depressed.
👏👏👏👍
Scusa intendevo alexiej dimitrevic
16... d4! and white go home
