That's an amazing work of art! Both the ship and the ocean water.
    Deep respect for your work!

Very impressive modelling, I also like that you noted the lower hull was not painted red oxide as commonly thought but the correct anti fowling grey Fantastic!

This past Wednesday, I got Academy's 1/350 Oliver Hazard Perry class frigate, which I will be building it as, USS Rodney M. Davis FFG-60, if I can get another one later, I will build that as the USS Halyburton FFG-40, which was one of the ships that also assisted in the rescue of Captain Richard Phillips.
Take care, and all the best.

    Hello 🙂, good job!! 👏👍
If I'm not mistaken, HMS Hood was sunk by the German battleship Bismarck

    Good evening
I’m flattered that you agree that there must be an opposite reaction from the ship’s forward motion causing a higher bow wave at the knifes edge and yet when I observed the forward motion of the ships traversing the Welland Canal here inSt. Catherine’s Ontario, the ships forward motion at around 5 knots, creates a wave generated at the bow between 2 - 9 ft high. Now in principle this should not only happen at high speed runs. They should push a mass of rolling water that forces quite a lot of foaming water. I believe I have a theory as to why some large battleships have Avery small mound of foaming water.
I watched a program that had the HMS Hood as its subject and was able to watch a coloured film of Hood passing by a point and it was said she was travelling around 10 it’s. I believe that the shape of the bow was such that the signe wave of water met thé opposing sign wave of the sea was intercepted at knife edge of the bow cancelled it almost entirely out as there was evidence of a tiny tumbling motion in front of the edge.
I also watched the stern or the wake under high revolutions and observed that with four screws, turning at high revolutions, there was four streams of boiling wake the height to the stern causing a very wet poop deck.
I conclude that you are an artist who saw in real time the mastery of the wakes at different revolutions and are accurate when looking at 2 screws in high revolutions, but not four. It is possible that the ship you were fathoming had two rudders. The conclusion that I’ve come to is the pattern of two screws would becloser together. As there still will be a 35* angle to the wake of the screws to which the innermost wakes would intercept at the centre of the stern leaving a large and high stern wake as the ship moves away. On the hand if there’s four screws the wakes would duplicate on the outer screws that would leave four different boiling wakes that would be amplified when the wakes hit the hull and cause foaming effect while at the same time the rudder would amplifié the water mass as it is thrown from under the hull causing a continuous foaming wake as high and as wide as the stern sheets and thus you would a massive wake the width of the propeller shafts.
Other then that I have nothing.
    Summary:
The effect of the bow wave would be split by the bow without a mass of water pushing in a raising action as the two sine waves a-pose each other at the center line and cancel out the opposing wave motion.
As for the wake, the width will be effected by whether the ship is equipped with two rudders and two or more screws. That’s all I got. And you keep modelling and I will keep praying that God continues to grant you more wisdom and techniques.
    For ever in His service.
    Alex

Save yourself the trouble. Just slather a beveled wooden trophy base with some wood filler and form waves. Paint them blue with some white on the wave crests then add a black oil slick. All done.

The Bismarck sank HMS Hood and sealed her own fate with it, Bismarck was pursued by a British armada looking for one thing : revenge.

  • @Praxics0815
    @Praxics0815 2 роки тому

Nice you actually modelled what doomed her against Bismarck.
The wave pattern she created when going fast is what lead to her destruction: The swell that dissipates from the after of the ship actually tended to reveal her bottom. It is cited that Hood tented to reveal her "red" when going fast.
The main armour belt tends to to stop some distance below the waterline, this is due to shells losing a lot of energy quickly when entering water by the time they reach the hull they usually do not have the energy to cause much damage.
However since Hood was going fast to catch up to Bismarck the swell revealed her bottom, just bellow the armour belt and this is where Bismarck hit her. The shell easily penetrated and ultimately hit the magazine and it was all over for her.
The idea that Bismarck penetrated the weak deck armour just doesn't hold up. The distance of the hit combined with Bismarcks gun elevation and rather flat projectile trajectory makes it nearly impossible for her to hit the magazine by going thru the deck armour.
The decision to go close quarter quickly in order to hide the weak deck armour was her undoing...
