The thing is this game really doesn’t feel like an endless ocean game. I grew up with EO2 and played countless hours finding all the fish, treasures, and gaining enough pelagos to reopen the cavern of the gods. Just the whole vibe of having a team of divers go on an adventure across multiple different seas, meeting up at the island or aquarium, unlocking all the different diving gear. It’s just not here at all. The controls feel different too. Never would I find myself wishing a game had floatier controls, but here I am. And yea, I get that this is more laid back and doesn’t intend for the creatures to be dangerous (even though they added Thanatos and multiple large, dangerous marine reptiles), or have scary situations, but that’s also something EO2 excelled at. When I play subnautica, I’m afraid that a leviathan will kill me. When I play EO2, I’m afraid I’ll find something in the depths that I shouldn’t. This game had so much potential to expand on a bigger story, have more unique designated areas to explore (rather than one big randomized area), have a campy yet endearing cast of characters, and have more secrets to find. Seriously, I was shocked when I started to find many of the named mythical creatures from EO2 within the first hour, having done absolutely nothing. I remember having to do puzzles and waiting for full moons and following birds across the world to find certain creatures. I don’t know. This game is certainly its own experience, but it seems far from an endless ocean game…
I’m bummed out that there no base hub were you could walk around upgrade your equipment etc this game seems lifeless imo but I guess the online component sounds cool
While I love the idea of this game, idk if i can get behind the execution of it. It feels very budget development for Nintendo. I think this game could really look gorgeous with some good texture mapping. As it is its ok. That text to speech is god awful though.
the dialogue is very rough, likely because this game was originally made in Japan. Seems like Nintendo cheaped out on the voice acting, which is weird since this is one of their flagship titles this year.
Thank you for this first impressions video. I was getting worried by all the negative reviews, but this gave me a better look of the game. It seems like something I desperately need this month, just a bit of relaxation.
I'm really enjoying how peaceful the game is, as I do solo dives largely with the goal of finding and taking pictures of sea turtles, haha. I'm so glad that you'll be covering this game extensively Joshy, as I feel like many Nintendo UA-camrs are already just entirely overlooking its release. To me it's certianly feeling like a higher quality title than the reviews let on, but I also just adore the ocean and the Wii era. Absolutely cannot wait to play along in these community live streams! Please do hold as many as you can, I and I'm sure many others would absolutely love to dive around with you :)
I played the first two Endless Ocean games many times and love them so much. I was so excited for this game. But I am extremely disappointed in it They should have given this a different name because it's just not Endless Ocean. The only things they carried over are ocean and the special creatures. But they are no longer special. In one dive, you can find 3 different Thanatos, two Ancient Mothers, 4 Apollos, etc. Then we spend a long time searching for 7 abnormal fish in order to see a "UNIQUE marine life"" only to find out its the same one with the same cutscene that we've had a few times already. I hate that we can't create our character, choose our name, or even our gender. I am a lady and I at least want to be a female diver. So I have decorated my dude in the cutest pastels with stickers. I just can't pretend that's me! I miss having a home base, and other NPCs. I miss being able to feed and pet the creatures. And going on shore to interact with the critters on land too. There are so many things missing here. I don't think this is a bad game. I can see how it would be fun for those who love group diving. Or even chill exploring. I'm trying to enjoy this for what it is, and have 15 hours into it so far. If I pretend this isn't EO and ignore the horrible story, it's just okay for me. The biggest thing that bothers me is having to scan everything before you can truly see them. Even though you have scanned hundreds of the same kind of fish, they are all blue 🐟🐟🐟 or yellow for rare. If we can't have the EO experience, can we at least get the visuals from the trailers? I want to approach every area and see all the new and colorful things. I want to lose myself in the water and just explore and take it all in. But, nope! Scan, scan, scan just to see them. Let us turn off the light gathering stuff if we aren't interested in the story! Sorry this is long. Doesn't even cover everything I wish was different. They took everything I loved about the first two and just threw it away. Again, it's not bad for what it is. I wish they would remaster the other two and bring them to the Switch.
Sorry Josh, this game looks very ugly to me. Feels half baked. I just wish the color popped a bit more everything just looks so dull and wish the meshes looked better, not to mention the god aweful animations and text to speech. Just screams studio budget cuts. Ill pass :(
Also the 2 save screens is one asking if you want to save the photo to your switch screenshots, and the 2nd time it asks, is to add the photo to your library in game in the fish log.
It's not like wii, this game is just a digital encyclopedia in which you can swim as a ghost because the fishes won't even notice that you are standing in front of them. After playing it I feel like I have wasted my money it's cool and chill but now I don't want to play it anymore because I have seen a lot of fishes and there is nothing interesting in this game atall.
We should have been able to actually dive off a boat. Surface when we want. Have a hub room to display our finds. Have actual customisation and choose a character. Some serious omissions. Outside of that. It's okay
I remember playing so much of the Wii game. My first impression from watching videos is that this doesn't have that magic. I don't like how they are deviating from realism with stuff like this: 38:51 and 41:32 Throwing in an extinct species we know little about without any disclaimer is misleading and cheap. Like having a special area or event where you can find extinct species is cool, but I don't like how they are presented and placed alongside current day animals. So far the soundtrack is really lack luster. A good soundtrack really makes or break "atmospheric" type games for me. I remember the crazy awesome opera-like ballads that the old game had. But so far all I hear from this game is ambient synth playing one tone. I will do a little more research before I make the final decision, but right now I'm leaning in the direction of not buying this.
Sorry this took so long to get out! UA-cam was taking forever to process it.

The biggest disappointment in this game for me.....WHERE IS THE CLASSIC ENDLESS OCEAN MUSIC??
I'm so disappointed by the laziness of this game. Blue World was so much better. I miss the music too.
I should probably be sleeping but instead I’m cackling at a man fighting with a bot voice at 1am. I wouldn’t have it any other way honestly.
So quick question, do you NEED a Nintendo membership subscription to play endless ocean luminous or is that only for multiplayer?
Did Josh missed Sera was an actual AI in the story?
This game feels so lifeless... The robot voice killed the vibes for me. The Wii games were better and had more to do

I'm glad we have you to appreciate games that the general gamer wouldn't care about. Like seeing you have fun just relaxing with fish rocks.

You should check out abzu it’s basically the same thing but much more pretty

Something about the deep sea and Joshys voice is a good time
I've been playing this game all day!! Im really enjoying it.

Casually going up to a leviathan lol
But can you pet the megalodon?
I never played the previous titles and I see people aren't toooo happy with this one. I'm enjoying it though, it has been relaxing for me. ^^;

Are there any settings for pointer/gyro controls like on wii?
so far i know no

@@melodyrose9627so it's L Button the Game? Seems like they took out a lot of features that made those first two games Wii Classics.
are you doing a review for this game?
If you had listened in the beginning, you would know it's suposed to be a robot.
