DeSantis seemed more comfortable and natural here, not rigid.
That's true, but there's two things that stand out to me. One is that he's not campaigning for himself here and secondly is he's not debating someone. He's just vouching for Prez Trump. Easy task.
DeSantis was tricked into running by people who betrayed his trust. He would be VP otherwise. I don't think he wanted it for himself.
And he's not a donor puppet of Rove and Ryan right now so he can be himself. He could've been Trump's running mate but unfortunately joined up with the establishment.

I am proud of my Governor. Whatever issues he and President Trump have had in the past, I think it speaks volumes that he came and spoke on Trumps behalf at the RNC.

Proud of what? Even a cursory dip into the statistics of social and economic well-being reveals that Florida falls short in almost any measure that matters to the lives of its citizens. More than four years into the DeSantis governorship, Florida continues to languish toward the bottom of state rankings assessing the quality of health care, school funding, long-term elder care, and other areas key to a successful society.
Florida may be the place where “woke goes to die”-as DeSantis is fond of saying-but it is also where teachers’ salaries are among the lowest in the nation, unemployment benefits are stingier than in any other state, and wage theft flourishes with little interference from the DeSantis administration. In 2021, DeSantis campaigned against a successful ballot initiative to raise the state’s minimum wage, which had been stuck at $8.65 an hour. Under DeSantis’s watch, the Sunshine State has not exactly been a workers’ paradise.
Largely because of DeSantis’s obstinacy, Florida is one of 10 states that have refused to expand Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act, an act of political spite that has cost those states billions in federal health care dollars and cost thousands of people their lives. More than 12% of Floridians are without medical insurance, a worse record than all but four other states. Despite having the country’s highest percentage of retirees, Florida has the worst long-term care among the 50 states, according to the American Association of Retired Persons.
Public schools fare no better than health care in DeSantis’s Florida. Not only did Florida rank 49th in the country for average teacher pay in 2020, but the Education Law Center, a non-profit advocacy group based in New Jersey, found in a 2021 report that the state had the seventh-lowest per-pupil funding in the country. Education Week, which ranks states public school annually, looking beyond mere test scores, placed Florida 23rd in its 2021 report, a lackluster showing for a large and wealthy state.

He just needs to slow down and not be nervous. Reagan was an actor and had great ability to use tone, pacing, and stops to make his speech more emotional and enjoyable to listen to. Hopefully, DeSantis will have a chance to refine his speaking skills.

DeSantis was like this during the primary. That's why Trump wouldn't debate him. That's why Trump tried so hard to trash him. Trump was totally threatened by him. But Americans are too easily swayed. They couldn't see through that, and were taken in by Trump's con-man speech, and his celebrity. Too many shallow people in this country.
@@mugs8306 I agree that Trump was threatened by him early on, but in hindsight, the primary was over when he was indicted. Primaries get ugly but one thing I will give Trump a lot of credit, when it's all said and done he has no problem with people rejoining the Trump train. He has run a much different campaign ever since Desantis and eventually Haley dropped out, even defending Hogan from his own inner circle. While last year got ridiculous, going after his former press Sec and biggest defender over nothing was low, and nobody has yet to explain to me how someone running right of Trump is a Rino lol, but his campaign this year, has impressed me. Between defending Larry Hogan, not really going after Brian Kemp, Trump is showing he actually wants to win this time. While JD isn't Glenn Youngkin, who in my opinion was the best choice, considering the polling that has come out in Virginia and New Jersey, he's a solid candidate. Perhaps the best candidate if you think the election comes down to the Midwest.
