Craters of the moon is awesome when there is a bit of snow contrasting with the black landscape.

Hi Maddie! So happy to see your beautiful smiling face and hear your voice! I had to post this comment even tho I can’t watch the video till later tonight but I was so thrilled to see a post from you ❤.
Will update after I watch !
But honestly it’s YOU I think most of us come for no matter where or what’s up .
UPDATE : I got to watch the entire video ❤… I loved hearing your thoughts on it … and loved that old twisted tree… if only it could talk. This hike reminds me of hiking in the old volcanos on the Big Island of Hawaii. I recommend you check that island out ! Lots to do … and I believe a big enough park for camping . I can’t recommend any specifics tho because we were there in
    1990 BK
That beer made me want one! My dad used to say there’s
“nothing quite as refreshing as a cold beer on a hot day “. Enjoy !

Aw that's awesome! I don't remember where I heard it, but I know it was said that "outdoorist" was a gender-neutral alternative outdoorswoman or outdoorsman. It shows up with the red squiggle of a misspelling for me, but I hope more people start using it!

A moonscape - been there, done that. An amazing place. Can you imagine being there when that was formed or even witnessing it from a distance? There's a sort of similar place in northern California, called Lava Beds National Monument, replete with lava tubes and the opportunity to go inside some of them. The Modoc War took place there. Be well, stay safe. 🥾

Great to see your road trip is back on track after your scary incident in Utah!
If you are looking for another "short" thru hike, I'd like to put in a plug for the East Coast Trail in Newfoundland. The difficulty is pretty similar to the portions of the Superior Hiking Trail that I've done, and the scenery is out of this world. The trail seems to be growing in popularity but there is a notable lack of youtube content on it. Maybe a good opportunity to be one of the first to vlog it.

This is one of the most unique places I have ever hiked. I did it on Aug. 1st 1989. I remember the date because a few miles before Arco I ran into a snow storm. Complete with 2" of ground cover and plows working the highway. Back then you were allowed to explore the lava tubes also. I will revisit the area next spring. Heading for the UP via the Ohio valley this fall.

Wow, incredible terrain! Have to visit there. If you go to Nevada, you might want to check out Red Rock Canyon, if you have never been there. You can actually do a circuit of this National Conservation Area in your vehicle, stopping at various points of interest for short or longer hikes. Stop at the Visitor Center when you enter Red Rock - well worth it. I was there in 2018 and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Another place I visited this June, two days, one in roaring wind (ah, Idaho!) BTW I camped at Silver Creek West BLM campsite, free, no shade, but ok in early summer. I hiked out-and-back on the Wilderness Trail plus the shorter park hikes, but skipped the caves because of the crowds. The blue layer on the basalt is part of the Blue Dragon flow, very unique to Craters of the Moon (nanocrystals?) I saw the tree-casts. Looks like you had it pretty hot there. And you’re hitting the 208 a lot! Try the Sweetgrass Pale Ale, it’s a nice one, also on the light side but good body and nice twang.
