"It's ok to be ugly, as long as you're faster and better!" - words to live by :D Pretty neat idea, Wayne. The random orbit sander probably give a better surface than a belt sander would.
+John Heisz Exactly John. I used to have an ocilating spindle sander geared up to do this with a power feeder but it still left scratches. This sands it perfect without the scratches. Thanks for watching man!
You're literally my favourite UA-camr because I get the feeling that 99% of the people on youtube only do what they do because its on youtube and somebody is watching - whereas you do it for the sheer pleasure and would do it anyway.
Thanks for inspiring me mr wooden tool... I'll just do it reversed upside down for sanding small pieces and get good dust collection. Cheers from Brazil
Keep up the good projects! I am going to run out of room in my small shop if I keep making all these great jigs and stuff to make my life a lot easier and better! Thankz
Great idea, as usual. The way you were describing the fence made me think of a jointer table setup. Maybe someone could make a home made jointer with a rough grit disc sander and off-set fences...
ugly is good as long as its easy, cheap and accomplishes the job. i cannot understand why people insist on making shop tools pretty lol. great idea and one i think i am going to imitate.
+WestCoastMods I've been using it for the last 20 mins or so and all I can say is wow! Why didn't I think of this years ago. It's making this job so much faster and easier and better I can't even describe it in words.
Wouldn't it be easier to clamp 5-6 of them on edge and sand them together? Put a small waste board on either side to make sure the outside door edges don't round over. Love the innovation, but just curious if you tried sanding them together.
+DRitz78 Maybe if they were all the exact same size. not very often I get more than 2 the same size. Besides I don't want clamping marks. These are going to be stained dark and it only takes a small scuff of the woods surface to have it show up as a light spot in the stain color.
Another great machine! This is probably my 4th time watching this over the years. Do you have any idea how much material is removed per side? And the paper grit #? I'd like to know to see if the doors need to be cut oversized to compensate. Thanks!
hey tool man I am a cabinet guy here in new Brunswick are you in the Maritime's also I enjoy your vids and the machines you build if you are close by I would sure like to meet you some day and kick around some saw dust....
yup I wasn't sure it was you .i should have ,i watch all your vids your a smart man keep them coming maybe this summer i will swing by and say hallo we go to Halifax a lot camping and the board walk so you never know take care and thanks for replying
maibe you can put a beltsander in there instead , should make getting those doorsides passed along the abrasive at about the same speed as cutting a sheet of plywood on the sawbench the belt has a flat piece behind the center of the belt and a ramp up and down at both wheels , it can prolly take the long sanding cycles better than the little orbital sander can too
I think I would have used a belt sander with a 120 or 180 grit belt on edge. You would not have all the vibration that the random orbit sander produce'sStill a good build an idea
+William Castleberry The orbital does a better job. The belt sander would leave scratches that would show up when I stain these. I did something like this a few years ago using an ocilating spindle sander and even had my power feeder on it but it still left scratches simular to those left by a drum sander. As far as finish you can beat an orbital sander.

we haven't forgotten you. hope all is well. you put out great educational videos.
Loved it. It's like a mix of a jointer with a disc sander. I have a Bosch roto-orbital sander that looks perfect for this project. TY for sharing.
You're literally my favourite UA-camr because I get the feeling that 99% of the people on youtube only do what they do because its on youtube and somebody is watching - whereas you do it for the sheer pleasure and would do it anyway.
I love what you do to always make things easier and faster...... the thinking mans woodworking!!
I hope all is well, miss your videos.
Thanks for inspiring me mr wooden tool... I'll just do it reversed upside down for sanding small pieces and get good dust collection. Cheers from Brazil
Once again your ingenuity is impressive. Keep up the great videos Wayne.
Keep up the good projects! I am going to run out of room in my small shop if I keep making all these great jigs and stuff to make my life a lot easier and better! Thankz
Brilliant! Finally, a disk sander with a useful size bed and fence.
Great idea! Now you just need three sanders with progressively finer paper in a row... :)
+Jeremy McMahan 120 is as far down as I go :)
that's pretty brilliant
Excellent idea. You are a very creative man.
Thanks for sharing!
Where are the new videos buddy???
A very good idea, thanks for showing us how to do it. It may be ugly but, its great for how well it works
Great idea, as usual. The way you were describing the fence made me think of a jointer table setup. Maybe someone could make a home made jointer with a rough grit disc sander and off-set fences...
Fantastic! I'll be making on this coming week 🙏
I subscribed in hope that you will able to start making videos again. Great channel!

Nice! So much sanding when building kitchens....
I feel your pain:)
Simple and effective! Absolutely great idea..!
That is a great idea.
If Izzy made it it would have legs and walk down the street.
Steve Ramsey would paint it purple.
+stephen dickinson Right on!!
+stephen dickinson

Great Idea, it does look a lot easier.

hey tool man I am a cabinet guy here in new Brunswick are you in the Maritime's also I enjoy your vids and the machines you build if you are close by I would sure like to meet you some day and kick around some saw dust....
+roger drisdelle ya. I'm from Just outside HALIFAX.
+Wooden Tool Man were you ever at the Chinese restaurant in Dieppe if so I was sitting next to you
+roger drisdelle
Likely at that place they tore down. The buffet. We used to go there everytime we went to Moncton. You should have said hi lol
yup I wasn't sure it was you .i should have ,i watch all your vids your a smart man keep them coming maybe this summer i will swing by and say hallo we go to Halifax a lot camping and the board walk so you never know take care and thanks for replying
Is that wurth sandpaper?

great thinking. i like it
Did I miss the memo that said what happened to the Wooden Tool Man? Where is he?
just need to add the auto-feed from your router setup.
Hi Wayne ,when you gonna finish the tablesaw fence matey.the final final one lol
+Tim Curwood
Ya for sure. Just only got so much time to spend on it.
Will this work for the faces as well? if so, when you add the feeder (you know you will ) you will be all set.
That's going to take a long time to sand a batch of doors, why not build an edge sander with a belt over 88" around?
Nice!
glad you are making videos again, keep them coming!
BTW do you still use your drum sander you built?
+mike gager I still have it but that was just a fun project. I just use my factory one. I robbed quite a few parts off it too.
Wooden Tool Man that's cool I was thinking about building one. Was just curious how they hold up over time
+mike gager big thing be keeping it dry.
No jointer for the long grain edges?
make the table adjustable and you could bevel edges on some projects quickly.
Please show me how to make a concave in a piece of 1inch
Brilliant
Wouldn't a belt sander be much better at this?
I think I would have used a belt sander with a 120 or 180 grit belt on edge. You would not have all the vibration that the random orbit sander produce'sStill a good build an idea

+Brian Binns funny you say that cause after using it for a few more minutes the old gears are grinding lol.
its pretty, probably wont win ms universe without help from steve harvey. nonetheless looks like it works good for your purposes...
