Winters allowed the German Col. to keep his sidearm as a show of respect. You didn't notice that Shifty's name was the only one in the helmet "lottery" which I honestly didn't either for a long time. They wanted him to go home. There are so many great films, I would say "U-571." "Enemy at the Gates." "The Sum of All Fears" (not WW2 but connected in a sense) "Apt Pupil" (also not during the War but related) "Inglorious Basterds." "When Trumpets Fade" "Downfall" They may not all get huge views but even just for you. They're amazing.
Please also react to "We Stand Alone Together", it's a documentary on Easy Company from which the interviews in the beginning of episodes were taken from. It goes over most of what the company did from start to finish, and it's available right here on UA-cam. It's more or less Episode 11, and most channels reacting to BoB also include this docu as well. You'll also see a lot more names that weren't revealed at the end of E10. Though, sadly, all these fantastic men are gone now, keeping in mind the show aired 23 years ago. The last officer from Easy was Ed Shames (the officer that yells all the time, when Winters goes over who might have been available to replace Dike during Ep7), and the last enlisted man was Bradford Freeman (not present in the show). They passed away in 2021 and 2022 respectively. Liebgott died in 1992. Toye in 1995. Lipton in 2001, a bit more than a month after the show's finale first aired on tv. Randleman in 2003. Shifty in 2009. Winters in 2011. Heffron and Perconte in 2013. Guarnere in 2014. Malarkey in 2017. Eternal peace to these giants among men.
Thanks for this reaction. I recommend some of the older movies like The Enemy Below (1957) or maybe as change from war: To Catch a Thief (1955) or The Philadelphia Story (1940)
I am a combat veteran. I really don't think you could know what this means to a lot of us combat vets . Thank you for this and may God bless you for the rest of your life.
This series holds a special place in my heart. My grandfather was a boxer in the Army and a paratrooper. parachuted into Normandy on D Day. Never talked about the war but for one story about that d day jump. He said it was so dark when they landed and in the confusion one guy was tangled in a tree and freaking out, but didn't realize he was only like 3 feet off the ground. That's how dark it was! But he was yelling so much and bringing attention to them, that the officer with them threatened to shoot him if he didn't shut up while they cut him out of the tree. My grandfather was a tough man. Lived a hard working farm life after the war, but i wish i had taken the time to try to learn more about his experiences.
16:09 In the official Band of Brothers podcast, Matthew Settle spoke about meeting Lt. Col. Speirs, who aged into a quiet, kind, generous man. Speirs confirmed the stories of his wartime brutality. The soldier who refused to go on patrol pointed his weapon at Speirs, so it was self defense. Speirs reported it to his commanding officer, who was later killed in action, so Speirs was never reprimanded for it. Speirs also confirmed his action against the German prisoners. The Americans had no facility for keeping prisoners established, keeping them would have been more dangerous than releasing them, and the prisoners knew where the Americans were gathering, so what Speirs did was ghoulishly necessary. He saw giving them cigarettes as a way of distracting them from what they all knew was going to happen.
Webster taking the luggage out of the car and putting the injured German soldier in those civilians car was a case of "Veterans helping Veterans". While they were opposition, he was still an injured soldier and more important that their luggage. It was out of respect and to help him. At least this is the way I see it.
Nossa, tá de parabéns, primeiro canal que vejo fazendo react sobre essa linda série, para mim, com certeza é a minha favorita, a melhor série de guerra de todas!!!!
The Thin Red Line. Absolutely incredible movie with only one or two reactions on UA-cam. Seriously. it is a masterpiece of film firing on all cylinders.
Easy Company is the most ironic name in military history. From D-DAY all the way to Hitler's Eagle's Nest, there was nothing Easy about it. I never want things I love to end, but you want the pain to end for these Men, and the peace to begin. The German Field Marshall's speech is actually what ties the entire concept of of the series together unexpectedly...No matter what side you were on you were suffering. I implore you to see "We Stand Alone Together" and Ron Livingston's (Nixon) Bootcamp Diary. It makes you appreciate the series even more. "Were you a hero in the War Grandpa? Grandpa says no, but I served in a company of heroes" Near tears every time. Thank you so much for taking this journey. Currahee! ♠ Winters may be the best, and Nixon may be one of the most entertaining. But Spiers might be my favorite. Also see "The Fallen of World War 2" to get some perspective on the scale of this tragedy.
Thank you for sharing the journey with us! Great reactions. I also recommend you react to “We Stand Alone Together” the 11th episode. You won’t be disappointed.
In the book, it says when they found the drunk soldier who shot Sgt Grant in the head, he was in the process of trying to rape a civilian girl. Col. Sink reportedly wished Spiers had summarily executed the soldier. You should follow this up with the documentary about Easy Company: We Stand Alone Together.
Agree with the comments to watch the documentary “We Stand Alone Together” plus one more thing-the ‘video diary’ by Ron Livingston (Nixon) about the 2 week training camp that most of the cast had before filming began. Shows the cast bonding together, creating their characters and getting used to acting as soldiers.
@@carolreacts I think they all just agreed he deserved it, I'm not an expert on the history so I can only speak for the show, but he was repeatedly shown to be very kind and humble, and saved a lot of lives (he was the one who killed the sniper at the end of episode 8). Since he was still 15 points short of being able to go home he would have had to go fight in Japan otherwise and likely would have been there until the war ended (at this point they had no idea how long that would be) or until he was killed.
Remember that Webster wrote a book about sharks? Many years after the war, a man named Peter Benchley was writing a novel about shark attacks, and he used Webster’s book as a source of information. Benchley’s novel was named “Jaws”, and was made into the Spielberg movie you reviewed recently. Everything’s connected!
I really enjoy your reactions, they are both funny, real and expressive. You seems to be a very nice person. Well.. my suggestion for future series would be The Expanse, season 1-3. If you like this type of series. I liked these three seasons a lot and have not seen all of season 4 yet. As for film.. I don´t know really, I haven´t seen so many films myself. I have watched you react to many of my favorite films. Br //M
In World War II, the "points system" referred to a method used by the United States military to determine which soldiers were eligible for demobilization after the war, with points awarded based on factors like length of service, overseas deployment, combat duty, and number of dependents, allowing those with the most points to return home sooner; this system was officially called the "Adjusted Service Rating Score"
When the german Colnel surrendered to Major Winters you asked why thw german wasballowed to keep his weapon. First, the Colnel was Regular Army not a Nazi. If he had been Nazi he would have been arrested for war crimes. Second he was Command Rank and as such would be expected to control the the troops under his command so as to help reduce possible conflict between american army and prisoners. Retaining his weapon is not only a sign of respect between professional soldiers. It also shows the getman prisoners that this officer is still in command of his troops despite being a prisoner. The Kehlsteinhaus (known in English as the Eagle's Nest) is a Nazi-constructed building erected atop the summit of the Kehlstein, a rocky outcrop that rises above Obersalzberg near the southeast German town of Berchtesgaden. It was used exclusively by members of the Nazi Party for government and social meetings. It was visited on 14 documented instances by Adolf Hitler. Today, it is open seasonally as a restaurant, beer garden, and tourist site. And the point system, called the Adjusted Service Rating Score, had the objective of achieving equity in the demobilization. Soldiers were given one point for each month of military service and one additional point was given for each month of overseas service. Each battle star or decoration earned a soldier 5 points. Soldiers were awarded 12 points per dependent child up to a maximum of three children. Initially, a total of 85 points was needed for eligibility.

No, Winters cannot give ‘points’ - those are based on injuries, medals, family issues, etc. Winters is finding jobs or positions to transfer some of the guys who were qualified for them, but didn’t have the points to be discharged, so that they would have a relatively safer job than being on the front lines.
