  • This is my first video review of a firearm - in this case a brand new Taurus Model 94 revolver chambered for .22 lr. I got this nice feeling and looking gun to serve as training aid for my EDC gun. Unfortunately, after about 100 rounds of 36gr Remington Golden Bullets through this little gun, the transfer bar decided to shear off and jam up the action. I am going to send this off to Taurus to see how their warranty repair service is. I have only ever dealt with S&W return department and it was a wonderful experience when I sent my S&W Sigma .40cal in for a trigger job. I hope Taurus stacks up favorably to that positive experience. I will update you all in with the outcome as soon as it comes out.
    Thanks for watching!

Same issues, I am now on my second one from the factory, I have had good luck with the Taurus centerfires but am not pleased with this little 22.

Hi everybody. I'am a brazilian police officer and know thie Taurus gun for quite a while. If you had a old Taurus revolver or pistol you are better serves than the new ones. Today Taurus use to maje parts of guns eith a method called micro fusion. This is a cheap way of maje metal parts that not need to be resilient, BUT, in order to cut costs down, they manufature essencial parts of theur weapons with this micro fusion technique wich cause all those kind of problems. Just don't buy this crap!

Baught mine in 1990,thousands of rounds and never had a problem. Good camping, fishing gun. They do have a lifetime warranty.

You NEVER NEVER PRY OFF THE SIDE PLATE OF ANY REVOLVER. Any REAL gunsmith will tell you that after you remove the screws, turn the gun with the sideplate on the bottom, and rap the handle sharply with a non marring plastic or wood mallet or even a screw driver handle and it will fall off in your hand. The way you did it is amateurish and can easily mar the side plate.

....However I have had one since 2001 at first it was my kayak/boat gun in the Florida water ways.....Gators that rival the size of the boat perfect gun for it....I have had no issues..Seems like not all are happy with theirs...I am as thrilled about Smith and Wesson M&P line as most are of Taurus (similar issues) gun broken due to use......

My son and I both purchased new Model 94 revolvers for our wives to introduce them to shooting sports. The triggers were horrible. I sent mine back to Taurus after it experienced a failure much like the above video. My son and I both got rid of these jokes of a firearm. I later purchased a Model 94 manufactured in 1992 with a 3" barrel. The trigger is fantastic, the quality overall is great. It came with wood stocks. If you must have one of these, get an older one. I happened to purchase this older on right after getting the newer one, before we found out how bad the newer ones were.

These are unreliable junk, I have sent my mod. 94 22 back FOUR times for repairs. I bought it new from Bud's, who by the way doesn't give a shit about your problems one minute after the sale.

That answers the question I wanted to ask. But my Taurus centerfire has been a good one all these years.

Don't pry the side plate off, they're fit tightly and can bend, believe it or not. The proper way to take a side plate off is to use a non marring tool, like the handle of your screwdriver, then hit the exposed grip to vibrate it loose.

good tip. I used that method on my model 94. With guns, forcing things is usually unwise. they are steel and 2nd rate steel, so take it easy and think through what you are doing before and as you do it. I even set the screws next to a number to remind me which screw goes in which threaded hole. Sounds silly until you make one mistake and damage a screw in the wrong hole.

I have a set of small files made of Arkansas stone (~$60 on eBay). Stoning entails disassembling the lock work and polishing all the surfaces that slide against one another. Makes the action very smooth. If you Google "S&W Airweight Trigger Job" you can see an excellent video on it. The Taurus lock work is very similar to a S&W's because both companies used to be owned by the same entity and they exchanged a lot of design technology.

Thank you for sharing this honest and humble video. I’ve been interested in one of these revolvers for awhile and this has been very helpful.

Where is the update for this revolver? Did Taurus fix or replace this revolver?

  • @brettcatterall616

Had my transfer bar replaced 4 times so far. You get about 300 or so shots before it breaks in my experience.

I have a Model 94 and really like it. I stoned the action and installed a Wolff spring to replace the very heavy trigger return spring. The action is now firm, but glassy smooth. I've had no mechanical issues with this gun through the roughly 3000 rounds I've put through it. Great for the money IF you are willing and able to do some simple action work.

I picked up one of these little guys at the local gun show, new in the box, 4 inch barrel but the same frame and works. Thus far she has served me well, I have only put through one brick of 500 rounds through her but not a burp giggle or fart so I am well pleased with the gun. Read the documents, the Taurus factor offers a LIFETIME warrantee on the revolver so getting it repaired is not a problem. I suffered a similar malfunction on a Colt Trooper Mark III many years ago when I was at the Police Academy. Mine was a different part being the trigger, the hole where the trigger pin went through broke and locked up the gun with the hammer back on a live round while practicing at the range. I had to use one of the academy
s pistol but while there we boxed her up and sent it to a COLT certified gunsmith and by the time I was to qualify at the Academy I had the revolver back, the smith who repaired it was nice enough to give her a great trigger job and I did well on the range. Carried that gun for ten year till a fellow talked me out of it. That was when I used the profits from the Colt to move to a Colt M1911A1 and never looked back at a revolver till I saw this little Model 94 on the table. My reason for the purchase? Well dad had a S&W 22-32 kit gun when I was a kid and I have been looking for one for many years, just so I could have one like dad had. The price of the smiths has gone way out of sight at over a grand so finding this little guy who looks nearly identical but holds 3 more rounds was as close as I can get. At 70 years old I doubt I shall need to resort to it for defense but to plink with, and to teach my grandsons the shooting sport, safety and proper conduct the .22 revolver is much better then either of my .45's.

Broke transfer bar, and repaired it twice, taurus wouldnt ship me a new one because its a restricted part, so i made a custom stainless steel transfer bar, then the cylinder stop broke. Taurus still refuses to accept my gun because i'm "outside" of the USA. I'm in Guam.

I have had three 94's. the first one broke; and had to be destroyed because it was not repairable. The one they replaced it with also broke. Same problem as what you described. Twice. the one I still have has been sent back to Taurus twice same problem. I have tried to get my money back. That is a joke.

I had this issue with my Taurus .357 model 66ss. The Taurus customer service took care of the issue and the gunsmith done a very good job fixing the problem. I been thinking of getting this little .22lr revolver but I noticed that Taurus stopped making them. Maybe I'll still find one someplace else. I think Taurus is a good brand but that they should use better materials in their firearms after all firearms are supposed to contain small explosions just a couple feet from your face and that's a terrible place for things to go wrong.

This is pretty interesting. I purchased a model 94 6 years ago and randomly while after firing a round the cylinder would be off centered and not be locked up. Therefore I was unable to cock the gun or pull the trigger unless i rotated the cylinder back to a lockup. It cost $60 to overnight it to Taurus. I got it back less than a week later saying it was all fixed. Second round after getting back same thing happened. Hard for me to buy another Taurus after owning this one.

I ended up welding my transfer bar. There is enough room for extra metal from welding, reinforcing the bar.

Sorry about your gun. Hope you got it fixed. I had to send back a PT111 twice and finally, after them not fixing it, I requested that Taurus keep it and send me a PT-99 instead which has worked fine. I would never recommend someone new to firearms getting a Taurus firearm. Much better to save your money a little longer, and get a more reliable model firearm.

    • @JerryEricsson

Takes a lot more saving to get a Smith .22LR revolver, the current prices for a used 22-32 Kit gun or Model 34 is from 975.00 to 1500.00 for one in like new condition. I just purchased mine for $450.00 It is an older model but was still new in the box since the first owner never used it (Collector of some sort according to the dealer and as a retired gunsmith myself, it appears to have never been fired but for the proof test at Taurus.

I have since traded all my Taurus in on smith and Wesson revolvers. after the fourth repair for the same problem, in like four months. I told the Taurus people that I would be trading/getting rid of all my Taurus, and would never recommend to anyone to purchase a Taurus. They look nice, but all they are good for is to look at, or use as a paper weight.

@@jesusdrummer21 When I started on the Police force in 1973 we were issued Model 19 Smiths, later as the years went by, we upgraded to Model 66's which are just 19's in stainless with a gull barrel underlug. Nice guns but I liked the semi-auto so when I had enough funds I switched to 1911A1 Colt and was very happy with it, carried a semi-auto till I retired in 93. I picked up the Taurus 94 sot of like a memorial to dad who owned a22-32 Kit gun till I was old enough to play with toy pistols, he sold the 22 just to keep the family safe I guess, at least that's what mom remembers but her memory is a bit iffy now days, she turned 96 last week, mine is still fairly sharp at 70,

I bought one of these a while back I've put thousands of rounds through it. Still sitting on my desk as operational as the day I got it. Good little accurate gun that can shoot bullets.
My only gripe was the trigger but your finger gets stronger to deal with the heavy pull.

    ditch that golden bullet ammo.
That is the dirtiest ammo ever mad. it's like they swept the floor of the factory thn dumped the sweepings into the ammo box over the ammo.
