I don't think i ever heard of this band but i searched it up on UA-cam because I was curious and i love their songs and i think it's my favorite band so far
I'm so pleased for you. No band in the world has helped me through my depression more than PL. I still regard Icon (1993), Draconian Times (1995), Paradise Lost (2005) and Shades Of God (1992) as four of the best albums of all time by any band in any genre.
Great to hear they had fun during the making of Host, I love that album, been a huge fan of Paradise Lost since 1990, it’s one of my all time favorite bands… So many great and epic albums, Icon, Draconian Times, One Second, Host, Believe in Nothing, Symbol of Life etc. all the way till this day, amazing album after amazing album…
Great interview, guys. Paradise Lost are an amazing band. Draconian Times is still one of my favourite albums. Saw them at Monsters Of Rock back in 1996. Met Greg backstage. Top bloke!
Thank you! And that's awesome! He really is a gent and so so funny too. Was listening to the remaster of draconian times coming up to this interview and it's crazy how fresh it sounds even today. Truly ahead of their time
Greg's sound is so unique and Paradise Lost is probably the soundtrack of my life. Especially Draconian Times and Icon bring back so many vivid memories. The last 3 albums are absolutely amazing, back to their classic sound and even better
Thank you for interview and Paradise Lost. They are one of my favourite Gothic metal bands and I’ve been listening to them and watching them live since I was 18 years old.
Thanks guy's that was a great interview, been a fan of PL since the start of their career when I was 18 yrs old and yes I thought Host was a fantastic album when it first came out as well, so once again thanks .
Thank you so much. Me too! I heard them sound check it but then they didn't play it at the show and I was a bit sad haha but their set was amazing regardless!
That's awesome! I also got a photo pass for this show and it was great. Greg strikes a great stance while playing! Have fun at the next one and thanks for watching 🦇
@@RandomGothCouple I would love to see your work😁 I love to see photos from people that real love the bands, and not so much for people that are there just for work
Thank you you're too kind! I'm not gonna lie I had to Google what you meant haha I've never seen those sweets! My mind immediately went to apple computers and thought damn that'd be hard to swallow 😅
This is truly a phenomenal interview. You've really outdone yourselves. I've been a fan of Paradise Lost's music for years, but I've never delved into the people behind the music at all. This was really inciteful. I appreciate how much time and effort you put into this. It really shows.
When Greg talks about how bands like Nightwish are considered Gothic-Metal, i think it's a problem that a lot of metal heads don't know thats a destinct genre. They just see how people in the band dress and then assume thats all that it is, just a style. Btw. Paradise Lost was also my inttroduction in the Gothic-Metal genre. My first song was Mouth and i adore this band since. ^^
The first live concert I saw in my life was Paradise Lost in the Draconian Times era, Lisboa, Portugal, for Super Bock Super Rock ( when it had rock). DAD, Nephilim, Moonspell, Paradise Lost. When Paradise Lost started, with the first piano from Draconian Times, the sun was almost down, the sky was purple. And some people that were at work, started to come only for Paradise Lost. Suddently the place was full, and you could barely move. Best gig ever. Best times of my life. And I was a 16 year old virgin with a gothic metal band called FullMoon xD.
Thank you! We have one more lined up for this year and then we'll likely revamp the format next year. Maybe a separate channel for them alone, and possibly a podcast format 🤔
Really great interview ! I'm not overly familiar with Paradise Lost (might start listening some more) but Greg was really interesting to listen to here!
Fascinating guy and very funny! I recommend checking out symbol of life and one second! They're the most accessible albums imo. But a great band all round and such a diverse discography!
@@RandomGothCoupleThe Plague Within any day. Side projects and early stuff nice too 🎉. They know what they're doing and doing what they are want and feel right to do artistically.
I'm 45 and i remember what he's talking about back in the early 90s the metal heads, punks and goths had there groups but they all hung out together. I mentioned type o negative on some goth chicks channel and got attacked for it.
Even when we were kids all the alt kids banded together but I felt a divide as we got older. Obviously people still gave each other a bit of stick but we still all hung around together. Seems nowadays people don't mix as much. Sad really!
@@RandomGothCouple they don't know the history of any of it aside from a "corporate sponsored" algorithm that tells the way it was and how it should be. I wonder what Sleep Token would sound like with Robert Smith as the singer.Younger people couldn't comprehend it.
While I do enjoy their gothic metal/rock era (which has spawned tons of classic songs), I prefer their death/doom albums more. Also, Paradise Lost did have female vocals on the first album. Breeding Fear at around the 38 second mark.
Same problem in Portugal, Lisbon. The good times ( 2000s, late 90s) we had thursdays, fridays and saturday and there was a gymn that at sunday afternoon also would have a goth / metal / electo DJ (the same in all lol), slowly started to end. No 2 of the places are chinese restaurants, one is closed in Bairro Alto, and Lisbon became violent and crappy, like Paris. I havent gone out in over a decade. Theres no place with good music. And the police is also in force to get you if you get 2 beers and drive. And there are no transportations for the 2 places that are still open, and even then, they are changing the music genre to be like all other R&B crap...Despike the owners are goths. Its over. I hope that in the Netherlands there is a more vibrant (or Germany) life in this genre. I miss those days and I am 43 and might leave my country to work and live there.
Kind of weird to think that Evanescence was influenced by Lacuna Coil. I assumed they were about the same age and emerged on the scene at about the same time.
Lacuna coil slightly preceeded Evanescence but the important distinction is they were more popular and had their sound and more releases earlier. Evanescence didn't release their debut till the early 2000s and lacuna coil had been around almost a decade at that point. I had the same thought process as you though. I always kinda put nightwish, lacuna coil, within temptation and evanescence in the same bracket time wise but Lacuna coil are the OG's!
