I am in awe of Tony’s immaculate pianism and extreme maturity at the piano. He has shed the coat of rigid academic competition style interpretation and found his own individualistic approach and more importantly his own sound. He has the merits of a prime Argerich and the singing style of Horowitz. If this is him in his early twenties I wonder how he would sound like when he’s twice his age. I’ve heard many recordings of the Op 28 preludes and I must say as a whole set I find this interpretation to be the most complete and musically coherent.

Tony you are fantastic pianist; I discovered you here with your listening companion comparing different perf's of Chopin's First Ballade. I enjoyed your performance of part of it at the end very much. Here, after listening to the first 3 or 4, just one comment. In the second one, for example, I love your control and sensitivity in playing those gloomy left hand intervals ;) But, as with the melody in the Eminor that follows, this intermediate amateur feels there is something a bit missing; some subtlety of touch, dynamics. It could be partly the quality of the recording but there is a bit of sameness to the melody notes. When you change volume overall, the change is well controlled, but once you hit on your 'new' volume, the melody notes sound kind of the same as each other. Could it be as simple sometimes as following basic rules on which beats to accent and not? To digress briefly, in the beautiful E minor prelude many people play it at your speed, but I think just a little slower would help us more savor every detail. And, for example, in Measure 12, the beautiful transition back to the theme, when you go up to the D-C-B in the last three notes, you seem to hit the C relatively loudly. To me those three notes would seem to form a natural sequence, with the D being the loudest - though still perhaps not as loud as the accented C earlier in the measure.
Anyways just my truly humble opinion. Sometimes I have pretty good ears, so, I dunno...
I liked the first, C major, a lot, finding it both propulsive and clear, and I also liked the B minor quite a lot; it's as if your left hand melody in it was more expressive than the right hand melodies I was referring to above. Then again, maybe this piano is a bit bright in the higher registers, so comes across just a little harsh sometimes. The D flat major is also very nice, and here the right hand melody is more singing and nuanced. Just one dynamic comment - lack of pulse in the doubled G#'s e.g. in mm. 35-42 gives them a sameness that might be avoided by pulsing them with arm weight down then up in alternation. This might enhance things. Just my opinion.
