    From what I can tell this looks like they did change a fair amount. I would love to see an updated play. You always do such a nice job showing the board and stuff.

    Great video as usual Paul, thank you.
    I only wish things were different and this was cheaper, but as it stands the game plus the metallic add on will cost me a total of 120 euros, including shipping and VAT. Compare this with Perseverance, which had a tone of miniatures and was effectively 2 games in one package and cost me 140 euros total, and this is not something I can get.
    I am not saying it is MC's fault or anything, just that things have changed and crowdfunding campaigns have gone over the roof for various, well known reasons, and some of us can not keep supporting this model :(
    Oh, well, it was good while it lasted. Good luck to MC for another great game.

    There's a need for a icon on the board for lowering 2 suspicion when you get caught. It is indeed a easy rule to forget about and just go on...

    Thanks for demoing this. At the moment, I'm interested, but there's something holding me back. For a game about witches, it seems all too easy to find yourself without any named witches in your coven. You could spend the entire next season focusing on setting up the pool / trial and still not end up winning a witch if the other players are letting their suspicion get too high (plus you'd be missing opportunities to all the other things you need to do). Given that having fewer (or no) witches gives you both an ongoing disadvantage (no special bonuses) and a significant end-game one (no extra scoring), I could see a player becoming seriously disengaged in the game. I feel like their a) ought to be some way to attract a new member outside of the trials or b) some coven-specific bonus that always remains (like a faction bonus) or c) something else. I'm sure there's winning strategies without named witches (focusing on healing, rites, points from potions, whatever), but it would not feel as engaging to me. YMMV. :)

    • @GamingRulesVideos
      @GamingRulesVideos  2 роки тому +1

      Remember that we did forget on multiple occasions that suspicion drops by 2 when you get captured. Plus, it was a learning game for the player who kept getting captured. There are definitely things you can do to avoid it.
      In no other games were so many witches captured!

  • @henribcosta
    @henribcosta 2 роки тому

    regarding the divination cards, the ones that want you to have the same ingredients feel so bad in comparison... ingredients are worth almost nothing at the end of the game and keeping them for scoring seems so bad when you can brew potions that are useful and give more points in game, curing patients and having loyal citizens in the crowd is just something you do naturally for ingame points as well.

    • @GamingRulesVideos

      With the ruleset I was working with, the token for the next round is also revealed. Mindclash we’re watching my learning game in the afternoon and didn’t tell me that was wrong. Of course, it’s a protoype, anything might change, but I don’t think that will. It’s good to know what the Septima will do on the next turn.

    Looking at the comment thread on the game, the patients should have been replaced at the start of the new season thus giving people another opportunity to use their potions up to the end of the year. At least that is how it appears. Wondering if it would be helpful to have a token to put on a patient to indicate they were healed just so no one gets confused.

    • @GamingRulesVideos
      @GamingRulesVideos  2 роки тому

      Hi Trystan. The game is played over 1 year. Divided into 4 seasons. Each season is 5 rounds. There are 20 rounds in the game.
      Healed patients are removed at the end of the round, not at the end of the season.
      So players must heal a patient in the same round for two players to heal the same patient.
      Hope that helps.

    • @TheTinnman
      @TheTinnman 2 роки тому

      @@GamingRulesVideos I do get that but when the season advances at the end of a round new patients should come out. This was a response in the comment thread from Mind Clash. "Yes, during the preparations for a new Season, you deal new Patient tokens in place of the ones the players healed during the last Season." Unless I am not understanding correctly. Basically, as I understand it, any patients healed in the previous round are replaced at the start of a new season. So when you cycle the Septima, you would replace the healed patients.

    • @GamingRulesVideos
      @GamingRulesVideos  2 роки тому

      @@TheTinnman Correct. At the start of a new season, the number of patients is replenished to the starting number (5 in a 3-player game). Did we miss that at some point?

    • @GamingRulesVideos
      @GamingRulesVideos  2 роки тому

      Just to clarify. You said "when the season advances at the end of the round" - there are 5 rounds in a season. The patients are replenished at the start of a new season, not at the start of every round.

    • @TheTinnman
      @TheTinnman 2 роки тому

      @@GamingRulesVideos At 1:34:08 you remove the healed patients stating no one else was healing. At 1:38:22 all the witch hunters resolved and you moved the season marker to the 6'oclock position, cycled the Septima and started a new season. My understanding is that this is when you replenish the Patients as well.

      @GamingRulesVideos  2 роки тому

      We played correctly.
      There is face-down stack of tokens.
      At the start of the first season, you reveal two tokens, one on each space below the Septima artwork.
      The tile on the right is the current round. The one on the left is the next rounds tile.

  • @TheTinnman
    @TheTinnman 2 роки тому

    At 1:09 you did not allow the one gentleman to heal because the two blue patient's were no longer on the board. From your explanation of the rules and having just looked at the rules, those patients should still be able to be healed because you should not have removed them because multiple people are allowed to heal the same patient. Not sure why you took them off the board. As I understand it, if they do not get healed at the end of a year they get a red meeple and if they still don't get healed that meeple goes to the crowd and the patient is removed.

    • @GamingRulesVideos
      @GamingRulesVideos  2 роки тому

      Could you check that timestamp again and let me know where it was.
      You are right - the patients are only removed at the end of the round, so if I removed them early, this was a mistake. But they are removed at the end of a round, not at the end of a season (a round is one where all players take a turn).

    • @TheTinnman
      @TheTinnman 2 роки тому

      feels little odd to have a mechanic of healing the same patient multiple times by different players....seems like broken theme mechanic..

    • @TheTinnman
      @TheTinnman 2 роки тому

      @@vishallan I take your point. Perhaps it would be better to replace the tile after the patient has been healed and replace it with a new one. Then it does come down to who gets there first. It may require creating a few more patient tokens so you are not just putting the same ones back on the board. it would provide a level of tension about getting to a spot before your opponent. You could then have the mechanic in which those new patients, having just fallen ill do not generate a angry meeple until after the end of the next cycle of the moon. Could always include that as a house rule too of course.
