Great video and currently building one and had most of your recommended options. Can you comment on the shower system? I thought you mentioned it in video....
We have the 23 Zero Peregrine shower room. We haven't used for a shower yet, but use it for a changing room all the time - game changer from doing the "shimmy" in the trailer to change our clothes. We found a flip flop mat to put on the ground this summer . We did also purchase the waterPORT this summer that could be used for a shower. It works great for doing dishes and having water around camp.
Hey there - I know this video is a bit old, but I’m looking to upgrade my toolbox to a larger one. Do you have the dimensions, make, model, etc. for the one you highlighted in the video that you could share? Thanks for the great content! I’ve gotten so many fantastic ideas for my build thanks to you.
Yes we have! 60 mile per hour gusts. Thought the trailer might tip over. We had all 6 poles in place with 10-12 guide ropes out to support it. It held up better than we expected. We should have put it in that night but didn’t expect the storm to be that bad.
Hi Matt. we love your videos!! what brand/where did you get your camp stove griddle? we also have a camp chef and love it, but a griddle would be the best addition!!
Dan Sherwood If you off grid camp a lot of would do it. We are on a trip now limited service. Running the max fan all night for 4 nights and haven’t depleted past 12.4 volts.
Henry Schemper I am sure you can get an extension on the awning brackets but it will increase distance from the top and the gap gets bigger. You need an extreme off road with larger tires to bring the trailer up. Lol 😆
I don't normally run the fridge from the Trailer battery. I normally use a jackery solar generator for that and then the trailer battery is for lighting and Max fan operation.

Been following your vids and glad to see the latest - and glad seeing you guys staying safe. On hindsight, would you rather have a slide out drawer for your cooler vs moving it in and out of the truck every time?
We like having it in the truck so it is with us on day trips. This year we have kept it in the back of the truck more often then taking and putting by the side table. Keeping it is the truck also weather proo fs it.
Hi Matt, A few videos back you showed a must see Hiker build. One thing I did not see was the placement and type of heating / air conditioning. Only showed location inside vents. It would be great to know this. Thanks REPLY
ua-cam.com/video/9F9ogkPGjcg/v-deo.html. My AC unit. Heater is listed on my amazon store page it is just a small 250 watt table top unit. Thanks for watching.
Hi Matt, I may not have put enough information in to let you know which video. I have seen your air & heating system but you did a video on a biker trailer - electrician/ welder owner and that is the one I am wondering about. Thanks
@@davekoch2607 That system you are talking about is just heat . Its the proplex heater system buried under the trailer belly side. It doesn't do air . I shot that video on a Hiker Trailer campout. If I get back together with him I will see about talking more about it.
Hi Matt...thanks for doing these videos. How long have you had the trailer and and any issues with build quality or water intrusion? Anything issues that you feel would need a better design?
Don Sudy I am camping in it right now. Just heading home from hiker trailer East campout. No issues with build quality. This is my 2 Nd summer camping in it
We do have a portable shower that we take along now when we need it. Depends on where we are camping. We didn't have one put on the trailer because we don't want to have to mess with winterizing the water tank in the fall and unwinterizing it in the spring.
We have the Darche 270 awning. It doesn't have the black lining on the bottom which keeps it lighter when you are under the awning. We got ours through GTFOverland.com
5'8". We did move it up a couple inches to get the max height out of the awning. Our friends that are > 6' do need to bend down a little to get under it.
@damattice23, yes one person can set up this awning. It might be a little more difficult to pack it up with one person though. The awning is all or nothing.
I am just calling Hiker Trailer and asking for the Matt DeWitt model! You got this so well figured out. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
Liz it’s been a journey thank you for your kind words.
Thanks as well. You are a great resource!

Matt, have you been through a high wind storm with your 270 awning yet? If so, did it hold up well? Thanks!
Yes we have! 60 mile per hour gusts. Thought the trailer might tip over. We had all 6 poles in place with 10-12 guide ropes out to support it. It held up better than we expected. We should have put it in that night but didn’t expect the storm to be that bad.
Nice set up!
Thanks!
Hi Matt. we love your videos!! what brand/where did you get your camp stove griddle? we also have a camp chef and love it, but a griddle would be the best addition!!
Misty Williams my wife found that camp stove griddle at Aldi a few years back. She hasn’t seen it since. We love it! She loves her camp chef also.
What’s your take on the value of the solar kit installed? I don’t bring a lot of chargeable devices when camping. Worth it?
Dan Sherwood If you off grid camp a lot of would do it. We are on a trip now limited service. Running the max fan all night for 4 nights and haven’t depleted past 12.4 volts.
Thanks for sharing. Helpful info.
What is the height of the awning? I am 6'3" and tired of hitting my head. Any way to attach higher on roof rack to accommodate?
Henry Schemper I am sure you can get an extension on the awning brackets but it will increase distance from the top and the gap gets bigger. You need an extreme off road with larger tires to bring the trailer up. Lol 😆
Can you do accomplishing video of loading all the extras like tents, rugs tables, etc
Thanks for the suggestion - we will consider this suggestion
How long can you run your fridge off of the trailer battery? Are you using a deep cycle battery or lithium?
I don't normally run the fridge from the Trailer battery. I normally use a jackery solar generator for that and then the trailer battery is for lighting and Max fan operation.
Deep cycle for the trailer.
What color did you pick for your trailer? Love the color of yours would match my truck!!
Jay Telford our color is charcoal
Can you please send me a link to the 230 shower room? Thanks! My hiker is on order,

I want to keep price minimal and we camp remote, I think humans just believe they need stuff.

Thanks Matt, I thought I thought I heard someone in the video say heat and air.
Thank you for your timely response.
How tall are you? Just wondering if I would fit under the awning at 6'05.
Matt is 5'8". I would recommend going with the MidRange XL to gain some height. This video shows a Midrange.
Does rainwater collect on top of the awning, or is there a way to redirect it? I really like your setup!
You can setup gutters in pouring rains to remove water using additional straps to the tarp.
Does the light turn off separate from fan?
Yes the light switch can be turned on independent from the fan controls

Is there a reason you don’t have an outdoor shower?
We do have a portable shower that we take along now when we need it. Depends on where we are camping. We didn't have one put on the trailer because we don't want to have to mess with winterizing the water tank in the fall and unwinterizing it in the spring.
Hi Matt .. which model do you have ?
I have the mid range. check out my channel for a full walk around.
Who makes the 270 awning?
We have the Darche 270 awning. It doesn't have the black lining on the bottom which keeps it lighter when you are under the awning. We got ours through GTFOverland.com
I’ve seen the base price for these units and they are pretty affordable. I am curious the price with the features you have added.
Jeffrey T ours was around $13,500 when we put in our order in Aug ‘18. We have added a few things since then: shower enclosure and interior shelf.
Do the “quote a Hiker” build on their website. They sent me an itemized statement within 1 business day.
How tall are you Matt? (Darchi awning clearance)
5'8". We did move it up a couple inches to get the max height out of the awning. Our friends that are > 6' do need to bend down a little to get under it.
I travel alone. Can one person set up the awning alone? And can you chose how much awning to open, or is it all or nothing?
@damattice23, yes one person can set up this awning. It might be a little more difficult to pack it up with one person though. The awning is all or nothing.
Could a minivan pull a hiker trailer?
Megan Hartzog yes
I think I am getting none of these options! 😳
What does that awning add for weight?
approx 50#
Ruff rack? (Just kidding)
