Ron sang lead and played guitar with producer Jeff Barry's studio band on "Sugar, Sugar", which Barry wrote with Andy Kim, who recorded for Barry's Steed Records. Don Kirshner forbade "The Archies" from playing live after the Monkees revolted against him in 1967. Dante co-produced most all of Manilow's records between 1972-80; they have worked together since.
His first taste of commercial success was in 1965 with the novelty trio The Detergents and "Leader Of the Laundromat" which went Top 20. He didn't sing lead on that one although he did sing a couple of leads on their album like "Life goes On" and "Jimmy's Girl." I grew up with that album. My dad had it in his collection and as kids my brother and I had a lot of fun with it.
I love Rom Dante. But I notice that in his interviews he never talks about his personal life. Is he married? Gay? He was really cute in the Archie days, could have been a teen idol if he didn't have to stay behind the scenes.
Great interview! Glad I had the pleasure of photographing Ron with Don Kirshner back in the 90's. He is an amazing talent and has accomplished greatness.
@@renarga6886 He is good ! Look at his hair, hear his voice... I'm a fan of Jeff Beck, who's gonna be 78. Ron is in excellent shape. No one can be eternally 20 yo.
As good as Ron was as a singer and performer I'm curious why he didn't take his singing career farther instead of switching to behind the scenes being a producer?
Sugar Sugar was co-wrote by Jeff Berry and Andy Kim....Andy Kim had a few great records himself
Sugar, Sugar was yes! Ron Dante made it, and much, much more. Genius.
A very underrated artist.
Sugar, Sugar is a song written by Jeff Barry and Andy Kim

Buenísima la mejor canción de esa época,Dios bendiga a Dante.
I love how Ron is 'schooling' the millennials: Statan Island,Don Kischner w/o the hint of sarcasm

I always thought Clive Davis was the one who discovered Barry, and also that Barry never wanted to be a solo artist...
Today's music is moving behind not ahead.
Ron Dante also sang "Tracy" in 1969 which hit the Top Ten Billboard charts ; although credit was given to the studio group The Cufflinks.
So enjoyed having Ron produce A group I was in a song called The Fool.
See 1974 Jonah to give a listen...🤗
as in the Beatles?
Excellent interview. Such a great chap
Wow....so inspirational!
Say yes is good advice
"When you say yes, the Universe conspires to help you."
I wonder if Ron ever met the speakin' voice of 'Archie Andrews', Dallas McKennon.
Wasn't it Ron himself? 😮

I remember seeing Ron Dante's name on Barry's albums back in the 70s.! I wonder if Ron and Barry Manilow still speak with one another?
Laura Stone maybe
Ron can be found doing backup on Barry's albums. They're very close.
The Manilow stuff with Ron is great!
The background vocals with Ron and Barry are choral magnificence !
They wrote many songs together.
Rons voice is amazing, love all his albums with The Arches and the Dante’s Inferno album

Why are the skinny women in summer evening wear with cripple shoes and the men in comfortable warm clothes? Will it even change
