    Thanks for the video and your honest thoughts! Personally I have the Thursday Chrome Captains and I love them. The cork inside has molded to my feet and they feel like they lock into place now. Also the leather has developed a nice depth of color. With THAT said, while I’ll probably pay to have them recrafted when the time comes they’ve definitely made me want to upgrade to Iron Rangers someday and I’ll be putting away a few dollars here and there to do so.

    Hey there i recently purchased a casa moto pair its the motorcycle type of boot that they sell and I really have had no issues i think the grain break you see might just be a design flaw like something that happened during packaging because when i recieved my boots they were perfect and untouched.

    I bought my first pair of Thursdays a few weeks ago. I own both Alden and Allen Edmonds boots so I’m familiar with a more traditional footbed. The footbed technology in Thursdays is very strange underfoot…it’s so soft it feels like you’re walking in sand. Very comfortable but the power delivery feels inefficient. I’m guessing that is why so many people complain about them feeling heavy…they feel a little dead on your feet.

    • @BabblingBootsReviews

      That's a good point! It does kind of feel like your foot is sinking into the ground when you step. Not much springiness when you're walking like leather provides.

    Great review! I recently bought 2 pairs of Grant Stone after starting with a Thursday captain, and I’d agree with your sentiment on them feeling a bit more like a sneaker, but they still did break in nicely and the Thursdays are now even more comfortable than when I bought them probably due to the cork filling molding to my foot more. My biggest annoyance so far has been the tongue slipping to one side on my Thursdays. I do also doubt they will last as long as my Grant Stones.
    Do you recommend the Thursday rugged and resilient as a bad weather boot? I’m a bit worried about wearing my grant stones in rain or snow. I know they should hold up, but wondering if it is worth getting a pair of rugged captains just for bad weather.

    • @BabblingBootsReviews
      @BabblingBootsReviews  2 місяці тому +1

      I think Thursday Captains are great for bad weather (snow/rain). Those are my go to boots for bad weather just because, like you, I don't like to get my nicer boots soaked in water. I believe their rugged and resilient leather is even more water repellant than their standard Thursday Chrome leather so I think they would be a great option!

    I didn't like the old last because it didn't look anatomical, like they didn't know what they were doing when the made it - it's symmetrical like they ignored the natural shape of a human foot. I have some Italian boots that have a very anatomical shape that's slim but very supportive. The italian boots are much more asymmetrical but still slimmer than the Thursday. A good last is art. A good last is based on an unladen foot. Most American and British boots construct a last based on the foot sitting weighted on the ground. But here's the trick, a good european last is based on a relaxed/unladen foot and is therefore much more comfortable and supportive.

    Finally! An intelligent and honest Thurdays boot review! Thank you! I could not have said it better. Totally agree with a resole being nonsensical. They should make the insole removable/ replaceable at that point. The collapsed insole just doesnt make sense at that point. Or drop the gyw all together and price them $149-189. Also, the husk comparison, im stealing that, perfect description.

    • @BabblingBootsReviews
      @BabblingBootsReviews  9 місяців тому +1

      Agreed! At least give people the ability to remove the insole and put in their own leather one. You could probably get a lot more wear out of the boots if they did that. Then I could actually see more practicality in buying them and resoling them.

    Every pair I bought on Amazon had this same grain break. I purchased 4 pairs before I gave up. Also, the leather felt significantly worse quality than the tobacco storm kings I bought two years ago. Wanted to see if I could use the kingmaker as I was so excited about the wider foot.

    I like everything your saying, and I found your video on accident as I just bought matt black stormking legends from thursday and was research a beater brown boot I need. I think between your video and the conversations in the comment section I've learned a lot. I didn't even know Thursday Boots had lower quality internal components that wear worse over time so that was eye opening. One thing is I have bigger feet and I wear a US men's 14 so they're one of the few companies that accommodate my shoe size, which is ironically one benefit of their commercial design process. Any recommendations from a brand perspective or otherwise for my feet size 14 and a possible versatile brown beater?

    • @BabblingBootsReviews
      @BabblingBootsReviews  2 місяці тому

      That's a good point about the larger sizes Thursday offers, harder to find those options with small companies. If you are looking for another company that could offer a size 14 boot then I would suggest looking at White's boots. You can send them your foot measurements and they will actually make boots specifically for your foot size. They aren't cheap boots by any means but they are built like tanks and can definitely take a beating. (If you wait until their annual father's day sale then you can get their custom made boots for around $500 dollars)

      For $270 I would say Meermin boots are a very solid option, especially the Negon model they released late last year (it's all natural components, no foam fillers). If you don't like Meermin then I think picking up a pair of Grant Stones on sale is another option. They usually have a few pairs of boots on sale at any given time. It might not be $270 but it will be close! Probably around $282.

      I think they are perfectly okay boots for someone who isn’t necessarily concerned about longevity and internal components but if that’s important to you then I’d definitely recommend looking else. 7:19 As you can tell these are B grade or lower buffed full grain hides. Not to say they are terrible. But they arent the Prime Choice rib.... Awesome Professor teaching moment ;). • @BabblingBootsReviews

      Yeah they are probably B grade hides, which I guess is understandable for a $200 boot. At the same time though they are claiming they make no compromises on quality, which they clearly do... On the Thursday website they say their hides come from Tier 1 USA cattle, which I believe is how the USDA grades cattle for meat... not leather lol.

      @@joe_ferreira I think they exist in sort of a weird market which as some specific benefits but also some downsides.
      They definitely are on the fashionable side of things and I wouldn't really consider Thursday's comparable to the equivalent work-brand boots in many ways. As an example, I wouldn't consider the Loggers to be a replacement for a Thorogood Crazyhorse or a Danner Logger/Quarry (let alone a more PNW brand like Whites or Nicks that are in a different price point entirely), but they also aren't really trying to be.
      The thing I like about my pair of Thursdays is that I can wear them to the office part of my job without it looking like I just came out of the mine (like when I wear my beat up Danner Quarry's which I love to death but they aren't really office appropriate). At the same time, if I do need to need to go to the field mid-day, I don't really need to worry too much about them.

    I agree with what you said about Thursday's being a bad first boot and didn't scratch the itch for you. my first pair of GYWED boots were the Captain's in Black cxl, the classic, then 2nd one was the Arizona Adobe Captains, then the Loggers in Cacao, then finally the Cavs in shadow grey suede last year. The beginning of this year I transitioned over to Grant Stone's and I have purchased 5 pairs since the beginning of 2023 and I wished that I never bought the Thursday Captain's. I had to exchange the Arizona Adobe's for the Cavs because the tongue was not gussetted and kept falling towards the toe box and it looked ugly and kept giving me a foot wedgie every time I wore them. I didn't have to pay for the exchange and I got them as an even exchange. Now the Cav's are nice but they are too sharp in the toe box and super dressy looking so I haven't worn them causally yet. My GS's on the other hand I wear every day. They are better than Alden's but are below Viberg's imo. My first pair of GS were the Crimson CXL Ottawa's and I loved them so much I bought the Dune CXL Diesel's, the black CXL Diesel's with the leather sole, then the black cxl Ottawa's, and finally the Midnight suede Ottawa's during their labor day sale. I liked the MN suede boots a lot and had to get them for $230 because of the extra 20% off sale during Labor Day. And I really love the way the Ottawa's look. What initially brought me to GS was the fact I really like the Alden Tanker's but I was not going to drop $700 on a pair of boots and I found GS's Ottawa's almost by accident and have loved them since. The Ottawa's and the Tanker's look almost identical to me and blue is my favorite color. I didn't buy the MN Suede Ottawa's at first because I thought that they were going to be hard to pair with outfits but that's not the case.

      @@danielsevell5732 This is a bit misleading. Thursday actually have two variations of the captain and even the presidents. If you get a rugged and resilient leather, all of the things you said are true they have a leather midsole and a steel shank. However, many of the classic leathers actually have a EVA foam midsole and no steel shank. At least in the past, I can verify this is true since I’ve watched several videos of cobblers taking apart boots and verifying that some of them particularly with the classic leathers have a EVA midsole and I didn’t see any steel shank.

    I ordered those in whiskey yesterday, for casual everyday use, i was going to get some Cat/timberland/wolverine 6" soft toe workboots for 100-150 bucks, but the quality control issues on those made me reconsider. Going over 200 bucks was and is out of question, if i can get 3-4 years out of them with basic maintenance thats a pretty solid value proposition in my mind.
    I dont believe they are trying to be better than real boots, i believe they are trying to be better than the made in china fashion boots in the 150-300$ segment, Ralph Lauren, Gant, Hugo Boss, Tommy Hilfiger etc.
    Was i a retard?, i just thought they would have a higher chance of lasting a few years than some wolverine floorhand's for walking around town?

    • @BabblingBootsReviews
      @BabblingBootsReviews  9 місяців тому +4

      No, I think you made the right choice! If going over $200 is out of the question for you then this is the best option, aside from buying some higher quality used/second hand boots on Ebay or Grailed. I think higher quality used boots are a better value proposition (look on ebay for something like Grant Stone, Parkhurst, or Oak Street boots that are lightly worn). However, you should be able to get 3-4 years of wear out of Thursdays with basic maintenance. You'll be just fine.
      My issue with Thursday is that they market themselves as being higher quality than they really are. Their website states "Our footwear is handcrafted alongside similar products from other brands that charge customers in the $300-600 price range. We make zero compromises in terms of quality materials, manufacturing, or business ethics (fair labor and sustainability)." That is simply not true. They definitely make compromises in terms of materials and manufacturing. The only $600 boots they are better than would be fashion boots like you said, which at the end of the day aren't really 'boots' in the traditional sense anyway.

    • @r3fotzirx
      @r3fotzirx 9 місяців тому

      But they are to the potential thursday customer which is why i dont really mind it, its far from as nefarious as MVMT or similar watch brand for example selling overpriced fashion watches while shitting on slightly more expensive overpriced fashion watches.
      To be frank the shoes i ordered dont fully cover the intended purpose for why i wanted boots in the first place, what i really wanted was a 6", brown or caramel version of those pairs of army boots i wore out a decade plus ago.
      a sturdy unlined 3.2mm full grain leather upper with a reinforced heel area, and a grippy medium height heel onepiece polyurethane lug sole, and preferably a proper welt because the upper will easily last a lifetime of casual wear in rotation and hiking/occasional work etc, but thats not a really a dealbreaker as long as the sole gets worn out first.
      I see most of the Pacific northwest brands make variations but they start at 365$ with the white chore boot's which i kind of feel is too much for such a simple construction, i dont need made in the usa, dont need a vibram-branded sole, dont really need a midsole as my army boots where ok with only a piece of fiberboard that ran from the midfoot forward combined with a composite shank and a thin fiberboard inner-sole, and i can get some of those for under 200$ new. (Alfa M77)
      Then again i would never wear army boots in public and 365$ for a boot lasting many decades and multiple resoles isn't bad, especially considering it actually has a goodyear welt, is made in the usa, with a vibram branded sole.
      Should have gotten the white's, will consider returning the thursdays depending on impression once they arrive, then again they will probably last forever in casual wear rotation, i mean i still have have 5 year old Stan smith's in my shoestand.

      @@orlog3343I'm breaking in my first pair of boots right now. They don't hurt; they're stiff, so walking is awkward. And the insoles have not formed to the bottom of my feet, like everyone says they will; so at this point it feels like I'm walking on plywood. I think I'm getting close to a dozen wears, so I hope you're right.

      I think it really depends on the boot for how long it takes to break in. My Viberg boots have been comfortable since the first day I put them on and have only gotten more comfortable over time. My Meermins and Grant Stones definitely took a little longer to break in but no more than a couple of weeks each. You just have to find the right boot last and size for the shape of your foot. Happy boot hunting!

      Viberg boots! You can find used pairs online for a good cheaper if the price is too steep

    It's not clear to me that you even put these boots on.

      True. It could just be a grand conspiracy. Maybe I don't even wear boots at all! I just talk a lot about boots without ever having worn a single pair!
