The Epiphone Dot ES-335 guitar gives you that classic hollow-body Gibson sound when you’re on a budget. But don’t think for second that this is a second-class guitar! This extremely popular semi-hollow body guitar has been meticulously crafted to put the iconic sound in the hands of guitarists everywhere.
You have two humbucker pickups at your disposal which offer everything from lush, bluesy cleans to growling bite when coupled with distortion as well as a professional Tune-o-matic bridge and Stopbar tailpiece for the ultimate sustain. This is a performers guitar designed to be comfortable too, as you have a Slimtaper 'D' neck profile which is a joy to play.
When you want the classic 335 sound on a budget, this is the ultimate option!

I used to own one of these, I eventually realised I'm a Strat guy, just because of personal preferences. Great buy for someone who is into Gibson style models without a spare 2k in their pocket. I would advise anyone buying this guitar to get an L shaped jack otherwise the lead sticks really awkwardly out of the input and is prone to bending a lot.
Best Oasis cover ever,
Reasons to buy an ES-355: BB King. Yeah he played a custom Gibson but hey, you probably aren't the greatest blues player to ever grace this earth, you might as well play an Epiphone.
Alvin Lee's big red
Andrew Ince and Larry Carlton
And Marty mcfly. Johnny b Goode was a huge hit for him.
Don’t expose me like that
Everyone forgets Chuck Berry
Got mine for £100 from a second hand shop years ago still love it to this day and it gets played everyday never had any problems with it just intonation adjustment 2 years into owning it
Had mine for 13 years. It's still my favourite guitar. Took the pick guard of when I first got it. It's all I'll play
deadlegs187 I took the pickguard off of mine, too. A bit too sharp when strumming raised up like that.
cornellbobby I've got a nice worn patch from the pick hitting the finish. I'd never change an thing else.
So do you prefer it a lot without the pick guard or is it just personal preference?
@@cupcake6581 yep, it's more rough and ready with no pick guard.
Off not Of “ check your spelling
Just bought this today. It feels and sounds amazing. But takes a little getting used to since I've been using a Les Paul my whole life. Amazing
I have a 2000 (indonesian made) Dot (natural). The thing is a pretty darn good guitar. I bought in 2001 and the store gave me what I thought was a good price. I got it for $420.00 with a case. That was tax and all. Out the door for $420.00. Well I've had it now for 17 years and I am very happy with it. I'm going to put a p-90 in the neck because I love the tone that you can get. I'll keep the humbucker in the bridge. If any of you are wanting a semi-hollow body but can't really afford a "genuine" 335 and you're wondering if the Epiphones are a good option......don't be afraid to go that way. It's a good instrument and for the money.....it's great. P.S. Not that it matters but the wood grain is getting more visible (remember it's natural, not Red or Sunburst) and the guitar is better looking now than the day I bought it.
I own both: an Epi Dot and a Gibson 335.
I Put a pair of Gibson pickups in the Dot (BB Pros) and honestly, it is impossible to hear a difference.
Playability is excellent, and you can take it to any gig without fear.
Still 10 times cheaper than the Gibby: CASE CLOSED !!!!!
Ok I never thought I'd want a hallow body guitar cuz I've never really liked the way the looked, and theyre not really my style. I play rock. But... This thing ROCKS!!
Lmao u could play anything on a 335
Some of the best rock/blues rock was played on 335 style guitars. Clapton, Alvin Lee, Eric Johnson, Stevie Ray Vaughn, the list goes on.
Very Affordable:) To hell with a Gibson ES-335, Epiphone feels and plays incredible!
I have an '03 Dot in that same color and absolutely love it.
i guess you guys aren’t ready for it yet, but your kids are gonna love it
Mine is a 2010 in cherry. There are lots of great features, but the coolest one is that the wood grain has really bled through the finish over the years. Now people think it’s a Custom Shop job!
I bought an Epiphone ES-335 Pro and I love it! My only debate is whether or not to add a bigsby to it!
I have a cherry red Dot, and put a pair of $350 humbuckers in it. It sounds incredible now.
Dots are great guitars. Newer ones are very consistent. A second hand dot with the hard case can be found for less than £300 online most days of the week. New ones have better pickups than older ones but if, like me, you are a serious guitar nerd with a huge bits box and some patience, you can mod/upgrade/fine tune a dot in to the perfect practice and gigging tool. Mine is a 2004 and merely needed a fret dress and the nut action lowered a hair. Everything else was solid. I put a dimarzio 36th in the bridge (from said box of bits) and a Gibson P90 in the neck from an old tribute I'd routed out for humbuckers. Some CTS550k pots, bit of braided wire, couple of russian pio caps off ebay and its a really nice guitar! Total keeper, great for gigging, travelling with, loaning out etc.
I do love my new dot I was looking for one and it was there at the guitar show In Birmingham,England so my dad was lovely enough to get it
You gotta love this man. He is all of us
Am I the only one that liked before watching?
That’s the first guitar I bought I still have it too
Got a Dot today and because of this video I find myself screaming my lungs out singing Oasis and playing the Dot 🤪
Great guitar though and good video👍
That's my Axe.. in Jet Black! Still in love with it!
I bought one for hardly anything with a broken off head. Repaired it and it's cool.
No one is going to say nothing about Dagan greatest performance on don't look back in anger????
You are one entertaining chap.
Would be a privilege to be one of your mates.
Superb post as usual..
You made my day mate!!! I love your work!
I've got the epi es339 pro. I love it.
Some say the cutaways on the 339 are rather small/cramped when playing up the neck - how is it for you?
For better or worse, love this guy
I want classic epiphone casino natural for like 500€ in slovakia but Since I am 14 I can't work and make money :(
I feel that
Yeah me too
Oof i cut lawns to earn some money maybe you could too?
@Henry Bushell My dad decided to buy me a guitar if I'll help him with some work. Months passed and I will have this guitar for my 15 birthday (18.9.)🤘🏻
@Henry Bushell well I think it is epiphone Es 335 casino (with dots on fret board)
One of the few guitars that dont look tiny when Dagan plays them.
I guess in your hands each guitar would play nice. Thank you for review.
I’m an oasis fan and I actually like ur cover
I love mine !
Should I get this guitar or the epiphone les Paul
Other than price, what's the difference between the dot and the epiphone 335 pro?
I believe the 335 pro has slightly better pickups and better quality of life upgrades all around.
antorini 0912 That and the pro has coil split which can give you single coil sounds. I have the dot and I love it but now that I’ve had it for awhile it would be nice to have the coil split.
Not sure if the pick up different but my pro has block in lays and cool tap. It’s well worth the extra bucks.
That guitar is my dream
Gorgeous axe, sounds awsum, Dagan. Thanks for the review!
Would you recommend this guitar for beginners?
Doesn't look like a Rosewood fret board to me. Fender are up front about using Pau Ferro, it's time Epiphone was as well.
Hi Fenderkev. There is a newer cheap form of rosewood for fretboads, can't remember exactly the name. Possibly Acerose?? They are on some Harley Benton guitars. If that's what it is it should be told 😉
David Kastin Agree totally David. You're thinking of Roseacer which is thermally treated maple, or in layman's terms baked in an oven to make it look darker. The more I look at this Dot, the more I'm convinced that's what it is. It's certainly isn't any form of Rosewood, that's for sure.
love my Dot! Still godda break her in tho...
got her used and for the $$$ i spent Its a WIN WIN!
ONLY THING...
I dont have the "E" on the pickguard.
Good, now you can fool the normies
How does this compare to a Gretsch G2655
Why do Epiphone make the Explorer and Flying V with identical headstocks as the Gibsons yet all the others have "Epiphone " headstocks ?
So, internet people, if it came down to a choice between the Epi 335pro and the Gretsch 2622. Which one would you pick?
Alán Buitrón epi 335pro, looks great and sounds great, and for the price you seriously can’t go wrong
Gretsch because it's what they do best.
Alán Buitrón check out Ibanez artcore models
Alán Buitrón check out Ibanez artcore models,
What's the difference between the 335 and the Casino?
The 335 has a centre block, the Casino is fully hollow.
Casino also has p90s not humbuckers like the es335
The Casino is available in a 'regular' version, as well as a smaller Casino Coupe. The Casino neck is slightly larger. The Casino has trapezoidal fretboard inlays rather than the dots on the Dot. Since the Dot is semi-hollow it has a bridge system similar to the Les Paul's, while the Casino has a trapeze tailpiece. The Casino is a true hollow body guitar, Dot is semi-hollow. Dot is a lot cheaper. There may be some colors that are only available on one or the other. And as previously mentioned, P90s vs humbuckers.
Great summary. Thanks!
The Casino neck joint is at the 16th fret; access to the upper frets is not as good as the 335.
Heartbreak hotel by Elvis really fits that guitar
If you have had experience on acoustic guitar and want to start on an electric guitar, would this be a good option as a first electric guitar
Would you say it is low action?
Get a tele, these are great too though, this was my 2nd electric guitar I ever got after playing on a telecaster for a while. Like you I started on an acoustic. A telecaster is a good first electric I think, but it's very subjective.
You're still a Kramer guy for me😉😊
Are there feedback's problems with high gain distortion?
Hey can you please do a video on the epiphone wildkat
Clapton played them too
excellent review and humorous.Your playing is great ,I can see your a performer.I am looking at buying one of these guitars. With your review Its possible. But absolutely NO Noel Gallagher! lol.Cheers.
This guitar or a epiphone les Paul standard PlusTop?
Do also the Casino
I either want this a shecter pt special or a squier 60’s classic vibe
This or a harley benton sc-550?
It's probably the same guitar.
This 1000% HB are more geared towards beginners. Epiphone can and has benn used by professionals for decades.
Would this be suitable for foo fighters and 90’s/200’s punk?
Kieran Howard Noel played it early oasis lad it’s good for that raw sound
lee benson thanks dude 👍🏾
Kieran Howard no worries lad! ✌🏻
lee benson dont suppose you have one of these too?
Kieran Howard not yet mate I’m gonna get one though. I had a les Paul standard which is mint too. Same sort of price. If your into the whole 90’s thing I’d go for one of the 2
Im looking for my first electric, can play acoustic reasonably well and love the indie/britpop genre eg oasis, the verve, stone roses etc. any more experienced guitar players have any ideas? I’m really looking towards this style of epiphone.
This guitar is a perfect choice for britpop or if your willing to spend a bit more maybe get a epi sheraton ii pro.
@@harrymountford8405 thanks so much man reply appreciate it
@@finngibson6429 No worries man.
LOVE the Oasis cover. Better singing than the original!
Do a vid on an Epiphone wildkat
does anyone know if this guitar is neck heavy?
Not at all. I have one and it's perfectly balanced. It's not neck heavy like my SG
I think Noel Gallagher didnt played the Dot. It was Sheraton.
Riviera.
Can I get an idea of the weight? Im a strat player and the only semi hollow i've ever played killed my neck, the weight is really the only thing im worried about.
Karoseen Sippy Cup it’s heavy. Bulk up.
Mine is 8.4lbs.
are they bigger than the epiphone casino coupe?
Bigger than the coupe, yes
Actually, Noel played "Don't look back in Anger" at Fender Stratocaster. Only in concert he plays it on Gibson's.
Why don’t you just join a band? You’re great!!!
This guitar have a fragile headstock??
A little Jared Nichols at the beginning
All ES-335 dot are handcrafted in china?
There are Korean made which are amazing I have one my one is a 2001 model
Indonesia too
Zooöoa zzaallly kan waiieyyyt!!!!!
Hey guys, could you give me consideration between this guitar and epiphone les paul custom pro?
Go to the store and play them both.Which ever is most comfortable.
A Wanderer both are great just play them
Both and see which suits ur taste
This one or cort source?
The guitar everyone owns
Phil X?
Hey, camera is over here.
Should’ve gone to specsavers.
Why does this guitar have an ugly pickguard? Why is "E" written on the pickguard? Should the owner of this guitar always be reminded that they cannot afford a Gibson ES 335? Why is the headstock so long? Why is the color of the fingerboard reminiscent of cheap IKEA furniture?
cool
2:49 song?
I think it's don't look back in anger by oasis
@@kaotrix96 Thats correct.
@@kaotrix96 yup it's that but In the song there is no distortion
This guy goes irish to English super fast
Just wanna buy one but out of stock everywhere 😂😢
Thomann are getting some in a few weeks, they are a lot cheaper from there as well.
