Hi Andy and Team, I'm Pablo, the Argentinean who lives in Switzerland and who I've written to you several times. I loved your video of Locro, one of our national dishes. I'm very excited about your Saturday videos translated into Spanish. I'd be very happy if you cook Argentine Empanadas, and if you dare to try different fillings. Greetings and may the successes continue. Great Mitch
I came here from your Biryani video from 9 months ago, and the things you say about Protein content and energy density perfectly reflect the change in your appearance since then.
Got an air fryer this year. No longer use the oven, like at all. Way faster, way more controllable. The teenager has started to cook for himself, thats the best bit.
Air fryers are good for a single person or 2 people. If you need to feed 4 grown ups then the oven is the better way if you want everything ready at the same time.
Andy, I’ve had an air fryer for the last 6 years (actually on my 2nd airfryer). It’s been an absolute game changer in the kitchen and for busy households or working parents. It’s a delight for weeknights. My current AF is an oven type which is multifunctional- air fryer, oven, dehydrator, defroster, rotisserie. I’ve made a number of things with it and I cannot see my life without one now.
I really love the honesty of this post. Yeah, sometimes the cheapo not so good for you food will still win for some people just for the memories it triggers. Nicely done team. I've got an air-fryer option in my oven, which was a deliberate choice as I don't have a lot of counter space.
Filet O' Fish was added to the menu because a franchisee in Ohio was losing too much business on Fridays. He was in a big Catholic area and Fridays were a no meat day. His sandwich proved successful and the McDonalds company added it to their menu.
I used to work with a Jewish girl who was pretty strict kosher. She told me that when she was growing up that was the only meal her mother would allow them from McDonald's. It still breaks a few rules, but apparently was not too much of stretch in her Mother's eyes. That pineapple burger thing that was the first attempt to feed Catholics on Friday sounded pretty weird. I don't mind pineapple in a hamburger, but without the burger I don't think it quite says "That IS a TASTY burger to me." The Filet O' Fish was a much better idea.
Don't forget there was a competition to see if the filet o'fish or the hula burger would win. The fish crushed the hula burger, which was a grilled pineapple with a slice of cheese.
This channel has helped me cook more at home, and I've started incorporating my air fryer more. It's not a super expensive one, but it is perfect for a nice handful of seasoned vegetables, or even for re-heating certain foods. Love it!
In NZ, Maccas claim to use Hoki. One of my fav's to buy at the supermarket too when we can get it. I love my air fryer too. Still fine tuning it but i must say a dual drawer one has its perks for cooking different temps/times. My reason for loving the filet at maccas has got to be the steamed bun. Soft, warm, moist fish filled goodness. As for Katelyn picking maccas over Andy's..... Im speechless. Keep it up chef, loving the content.
I've had an air fryer for a few years now. I use it about twice a week, for loads of different things. So quick compared to my oven, and stuff gets a nice crust in there! I love it.
Air fryer quick tip. When you do breading based stuff the browning can be lacking. You can fix this quite easy by mixing a bit of oil into the breadcrumbs during the breading. bit. 1-2 tbsp is enough. It works wonders.
I live alone and I use my air fryer instead of my oven most of the time. It’s quicker to get up to heat because it’s much smaller than the oven. It’s worth making a single baked potato rather than firing up the full size oven
As someone who lives in the PNW where during the summer it's frequently in the high 90s F (32 C) I really don't want my whole living space heated up because I had the oven on for half an hour not including preheating. An air fryer definitely helps with that if I'm not making large portion sizes like for the kids as well.
We’re empty nester now and since getting an air fryer the only time I use the oven is if I’m baking, which isn’t often these days, and since our winters are pretty mild we tend to bbq year round as well, although even that has taken a bit of a back seat this winter because the air fryer is just so much quicker with no faffing about.
Andy! Yes Chef! Great recipe and healthy to. I have an air fryer, especially useful as I live on my own and generally just cook for myself. Uses far less power than my fan oven & cooks certain things better. When it's a hot day it hardly make my kitchen any hotter, especially as I point the exit vent to under my extractor hood so it sucks a lot of the heat out. I invested in some grease proof paper liners, cheap as anything, hardly any mess and so much less cleaning, does compromise the air flow a bit, but a small price to pay. Peace and ❤ to you and the team.
I'm a Kiwi in Wellington cooking for one. I have an air frier and use it all the time. Its basically a little convection oven. I have baked in it. It cooks the best roast pork - lovely crackling. I have even cooked steaks and chops in it - The outside seals quickly and the inside is moist and juicy. Best thing about the air frier is I wash it in the dishwasher . I hate cleaning ovens.
My uni accommodation doesn't have a conventional oven, so an air fryer is my only viable substitute. Can have a lot of uses, and can create excellent results if you know what you're doing too! Excellent video once again Andy
I hardly use my air fryer for anything, but doing "boiled" eggs is the most convenient with an air fryer. Instead of waiting random time for water to boil in a pot and lowering the eggs in. 130 C, 13 mins no preheat in an airfryer gets me perfect 2 hard "boiled" eggs. Increase the time to 14 if your eggs are bigger, or have more of them. Remember to cool the eggs under cold water for some time, longer the better. It's the moisture inside the eggs that condense on the inner surface of the membrane that makes the eggs easier to peel.
I love my air fryer and I use it almost every day. IMO most people who don't like air fryers bought those bucket style ones. I recommend one in a more of a toaster oven style with the flat trays and glass window. It's much easier to just peek inside and get a better idea of when your food is done.
Have always loved my air fryer, but especially my one that steams as well, just check my whole chicken in there and it comes out so moist and crispy! Gonna have to track down a lamb roast option now though! But with our fillet of fish knock off, I just spray my panko crumbs with some oil and bake them for a few minutes until they're brown first and then use them to coat the fish, then maybe 11-12mins in the oven and voila! Just use cheapy basa fillets and it tastes great!
Thank you so much for some legit UA-cam content for we amateur chefs out there. As an aside, some years back Chick-Fil-A in the states was making fish sandwiches during Lent for folks. Hey Andy- My husband started fishing off of the west coast of Vancouver Island Canada last year. For the first time in 20 years we have had wild salmon, ling cod, halibut, and rock fish at home (in Calgary, Alberta). Needless to say, I had to relearn how to properly cook fish (aka- learn how to de-bone and cook it without destroying it. Make my homemade mayo- because.. well you do, and I know it’s AMAZING; 2. Then make tartar sauce with fresh mayo, because why would anyone stop there when serving fish fillets, data? 3. OK, I poach the fillets in the oven because I’m lazy. So, yes I’m veering off coarse here. But I will happily do so, cause I’m doing me. 4. But then I put that fish on a brioche bun, because it deserves a worth pillow. 5. Then I’ve started investigating the vast world of Cole slaw ( i mean from around the world to serve either as a side OR as a topping on that fillet of fish. It is a nostalgia thing for some. It was always mild and sweet as mentioned. Yours definitely looks better. The air fryer thing the past couple of years is interesting. I have a small one we use occasionally. Like any utensil or appliance, it has a place. Enjoy what you do!
Air fryers are also super popular across the ditch in your homeland now too Andy. I have been using them since 2012, long before they became a fad. I use two of them at once now to cook most of my food.
I already had an oven and an oven/microwave combo, but I am so glad that when I wanted a pressure cooker I went for the Instant Pot Duo Crisp with AirFryer options!! 😊
I do have an air fryer, I'm glad to see recipes using them, as a former short order cook I was fine with deep frying, but that was with a commercial fryer, never liked trying to do it in a normal pot.
Will be making these for my older kids during the week.. love fish. Always disliked McDonalds since i was a child. I have always had trouble digesting Maccas.. Yes we have an airfryer really good to heat up/cook some things eg; chicken parcel, snitzel, pie etc;.. haven’t tried fish yet. Love your channel. I love cooking & we rarely get takeway. But working long hours means I run out of cooking ideas during the week. Saved a few of your quick recipes for during this week to try.
Andy, I'm from Calgary, Alberta, Scamada...I have 3 air fryers 1 at work, 1 in the kitchen and 1 in my garage. I use all of them almost daily. Love them! 🍟
Definitely love the quick & simple air fryer recipes Andy. I still use the normal oven often, but usually run both at the same time due to needing 2 different temps to complete the meal.
We're in the UK, but I'm American. I never had an air fryer - or heard of one - until moving here. The single best thing about them, IMO, is reducing the amount of wasted oil. It's really fantastic for that. I never get results that are as 'good' as a deep frying, but I'm also not eating a tablespoon of vegetable oil with my meal. So, on balance, seems okay. hah
The air fryer has been an absolute gamechanger for me and my family. It's stupidly versatile, and the level of crispiness of stuff like fries is as good as it'll get without frying.
@daviedood2503 This sounds like a great airfryer. I’d love to check it out. Can you share the exact model number? I only see a 2-basket setup. Thank you!
@@roesmary764 it's the ninja foodie XL 8 quart. It has the main pot and a black pot u can put in it for air frying to lift the items out. It also has an air pressure cooker as well. Which is a separate lid u put on. Can make rice in 7 mins quick. Slow cook meats, loads of other stuff.
Filet O Fish is actually probably the highest quality item on McDonald’s menu lol. Love this recipe, going to have to try it soon. Made his pork adobo recipe but subbed in chicken (since that’s what I had in the freezer). Absolute fire. Thanks!
Also, fun fact: The Fillet o Fish was originally tested by a devout Catholic McDonald’s franchisee in Cincinnati, Ohio, who wanted to be able to offer the many Catholics in his area an option for Lent (no meat allowed on Fridays, I think??). He was told it would never work. And here we are 62 years later talking about it!
@S0lar_Flare the rules are pretty much meat = mammals and poultry. So things like fish and alligators don't count. Brazilian bishops even decided capybara (a local version of beaver with webbed feet) doesn't count because it swims. Anyway this was a bigger issue 60+ years ago when Fridays were meatless for Catholics, now it's only an issue on Fridays during Lent for observant Catholics
Hey Matty, back in the day it wasn't just during Lent. Catholics wouldn't eat red meat on any Friday (all year round). But you're absolutely correct about that being the reason the franchise created the Fillet of Fish. Also it was in direct response to Burger King's Whopper that Maccas wanted to follow suit with a signature burger. FoFish was first, then the Big Mac. The rest is history. (I recommend the Foods that Built America series - Burger Wars references this stuff).
Absolutely have an air fryer and it has made life just that little bit easier on a day to day basis. Unless I'm roasting large batches of veg or something, I like popping stuff in the air fryer. Quite enjoy some air fryer chips, too, sure they're not as crispy as fried but they're fast, easy and a great vehicle for a bunch of toppings. Lovely device, honestly.
I hope you finally got it, I noticed that there are many very good UA-cam cooks around but only a few are also teaching what healthy and delicious food means, if you add sustainability like "use of regional products and seasonal veg". for example, then you might reach the best of UA-cam cooks, Andy, you have the potential!
I live in Hawaii, and I just bought a Gourmia Air Fryer yesterday (8/1/2024) from my nearby Costco. Today, I already used it to cook Hotpockets, Beef Bulgogi Mandu, and 9-pieces of Chicken Drumsticks; and I loved it. I did have to adjust the cooking temperature & length for the drumsticks.
@@madcatjo I'll be playing around with different chicken marinade recipes in the coming days. My Air Fryer came with a laminated paper that contained different foods with recommended cooking time & temperatures; in regards to chicken, it only contained info about chicken breast, thighs and wings, no drumsticks, so I ended up cooking a few batches of drumsticks with different cooking times & temperature. I initially followed the Chicken thighs for my drumsticks of 400 degrees-fahrenheit at 35 minutes, which over cooked the drums and severely burnt the dry seasoning that I applied. Next I tried 350 degrees-F at 35 minutes, the chicken was not as dark-yellow and mote moist inside. Next time though, I'll cook the drums at 320 degrees-F for the same 35 minutes. What I'm interested in trying next is Guga Food's steak in an Air Fryer.
@@DaBudaa1 Check out Pro Home Cooks chicken wings airfryer videos - he experimented with different coatings for crispiness. Also I know the big "selling point" hot/fast/crispy, but I've had better results lower temp+longer cooking time. Also, if you haven't got one and you're going to meat, GET A MEAT THERMOMETER. It's been an absolute gamechanger for me. 😻
I'm a Pom, now living in Sweden, and I have to make much of my own food. I have an air-fryer and I use it for many things. I still fry my battered fish, and chips, in a deep-fat fryer using beef tallow though. Home-made mushy peas complete the meal. I'm certainly going to give your "Filet-O'-Fish" a go though.👍🏻
So, I loved that you included protein and calories! I know most people wont like it if you bang on about it in every video but it would be cool if you can include some macros when you can in future videos 👍👍
I have two multi-function machines that have air fry capabilties. Pollock is the fish in the Filet o Fish. It was my favorite also. Thanks for the recipe!
We have the OG Philips air fryer, so old I'm not sure when mum bought it, but when she did it was "what is that thing?" not "oh, you have an air fryer!". It won't die, and it gets used plenty. Not a replacement for deep frying, nor a replacement for the actual oven but it has it's place and one of the only appliances that remain on the counter and plugged in, exclusive and exalted status for the kettle, air fryer and rice cooker. We like old stuff and seem to be early adopters. Mum in law had a microwave oven, so old the front door was a screen, not glass. Reheated leftovers with a side of suntan. Yummy.
I gave up buying burgers, I've watched far too many of yours and Joshua's videos. I really enjoy the ones I make more now. It's an absolute bastard when I can't be bothered cooking. We had an air fryer - bloody loved it. We upgraded our oven and got one that has an airfryer function in it.
Great video Andy. I reckon it would be good to have a new series where you continue home made healthier version of fast food classics. That's what I strive to do at home cos sometimes you just have those cravings but don't want to feel guilty. Also, would have been good to insert a crumbed frozen fish version in between the taste test. I have those nearly every week.
Great video Andy. Personally I use my air fryer all most every day. Mostly because the clean up is a lot easier and it takes less time than waiting for the oven to heat up
Being over 40 it has become incresingly important to eat right as it is more than half the battle, when you want to stay fit but also enjoy food at the same time, hance I appreciate this way more than usually.
I'm a Chef, and I have a little air fryer. I mostly use it to reheat foods, cook pre-made freezer foods (eg. frozen fries, chicken tenders ect) and to crisp up burritos or tacos. Have yet to cook raw meat or veggies in it yet. I'm too accustomed to using my stove and oven still, but would be willing to try!
Great recipe and making it for my wife. The filet o fish is her favorite thing from mcd's. To answer you, a big portion of us don't have air forced/convection ovens. An air fryer gives us that capability fairly inexpensively.
Great vid Andy! Fillet o’ fish is my go to at McDonald’s too 😊 Booo Caitlin , homemade is soooo much better 😋😋 Yep I have the ninja double air fryer. Used it heaps when first bought, not so much now 😅 I’m in Manchester, U.K. Always look forward to your uploads and also love Back Of House on Sundays. Great job !

I still use the normal oven often, but usually run both at the same time due to needing 2 different temps to complete the meal.
Usually only watch your shorts; Loved this video Andy
I have an air fryer and absolutely love it. Will never use anything else..love fish fillets my favorite and ill be making your version ❤
So cool to hear Aussie lingo as an American. Even more awesome is new recipes I've never known of! Stay awesome! 🤘🐐🤙💪🤌
He's a New Zealander
@khankake9576 he lives in Australia tho?
We're in the UK, but I'm American. I never had an air fryer - or heard of one - until moving here. The single best thing about them, IMO, is reducing the amount of wasted oil. It's really fantastic for that. I never get results that are as 'good' as a deep frying, but I'm also not eating a tablespoon of vegetable oil with my meal. So, on balance, seems okay. hah
The air fryer has been an absolute gamechanger for me and my family. It's stupidly versatile, and the level of crispiness of stuff like fries is as good as it'll get without frying.
I'm often found in the kitchen just frying air. It's become my new hobby.
I don't have an air fryer.
He’s addictive to watch
5:00 I have a Ninja Foodi XL air fryer. Thing does EVERYTHING man. Can even cook an 8 pound turkey in it. Good size rotisserie chicken too. 🤘🤣🔥
Thanks!
I am a huge fan of this man his so humble and so unique
Thanks Andy. This is a world wide favourite. It is delicious and I think most people would like to make it at home.
I have an air fryer and the fillet of fish is my fave! Will be making this!
Thank you uncle Andy for emphasizing the importance of macros!
Love this channel and the filet-o-fish!
I totally get Katelyn’s nostalgic selection but am also looking forward to making this.
American in Florida, have an air fryer. We use it all the time
Florida man uses airfrier
Also, fun fact: The Fillet o Fish was originally tested by a devout Catholic McDonald’s franchisee in Cincinnati, Ohio, who wanted to be able to offer the many Catholics in his area an option for Lent (no meat allowed on Fridays, I think??).
He was told it would never work. And here we are 62 years later talking about it!
Fish is meat though. You mean no red meat?
@@kylekennedy9212 Catholicism doesn't group fish with meat from a mammal. I think those are the rules.
@@johnbrown1860 Ah, ok. Thanks
Looking great Andy, agree totally about diet, went carnivore 6 months ago lost 25kg and most health issues!
Those look fantastic!!! I wanna make one now, especially the Filet-O-Fish! One of my favs there for sure!
Love the change and would love more macro teachings
When you find a recipe that you like for Korean chicken wings...OMG 😻 So much cleaner and cheaper for super crispy + juicy wings ❤❤❤
Can't help but hyper-focus on Caleb's dungeon synth t-shirt.
Honestly, do more of these types of videos! id love a good hearty meal thats got some good macros!
AWESOME! I made fish burgers yesterday with haddock
I used to bake in the oven all the time, but since moving and down sizing kitchen, air fryer been doing the job!
Love this concept, I'm here for it!
Would love an air fryer recipe series
So, I loved that you included protein and calories! I know most people wont like it if you bang on about it in every video but it would be cool if you can include some macros when you can in future videos 👍👍
looks so delicious and learnt a lot of recipe from your videos. thanks for sharing
Mostly because the clean up is a lot easier and it takes less time than waiting for the oven to heat up
The Quest Master shirt!!!
I've been baking bread in my air fryer. Works great especially when it's 100F outside.
I do not own an air fryer...purely because everyone tells me how great they are and I should get one.
Love your videos mate.
Subscribed. I have an air fryer. Garlic bread in 8 minutes. Brilliant.
Agreed. Preheat and it's 5 minutes.
Air fryer series!? Yes please!
New Andy cooks video let's fkn go
Great recipe and making it for my wife. The filet o fish is her favorite thing from mcd's.
To answer you, a big portion of us don't have air forced/convection ovens. An air fryer gives us that capability fairly inexpensively.
Great video, keep the life hacks and takeaway upgrades coming.
Would love to see more of this content. Some stuff where you can get a nice big chunk of protein while not having to many calories.
Great vid Andy! Fillet o’ fish is my go to at McDonald’s too 😊
Booo Caitlin , homemade is soooo much better 😋😋
Yep I have the ninja double air fryer. Used it heaps when first bought, not so much now 😅
I’m in Manchester, U.K.
Always look forward to your uploads and also love Back Of House on Sundays. Great job !
Yes I have an air fryer and yes I would love some more air fryer recipes! Thanks!
Only 60% in Australia? I bet that number is higher in the USA. Thanks for the education. I’ve learned a ton😊
Does anyone else want to eat mademoiselle craballeta with some butter?
Alright, which one of you has a cracked Benny??
I'm from the US, and I don't have an air fryer. But I'm thinking about getting one. 😛
think it would be lower in the US if im honest.
I looked it up and the US is almost 60% of households that have air fryers.
Brilliant video!!! Your fillet of fish looked so much better and probably better tasting than the McDonald's one!! Is this the start of you cooking other fast food items from the major chains
I love you, Andy, but not everybody has these options
