Sold! Honestly, except for it being from China, it is a great value knife that punches above its weight. Wish they could move production to Taiwan or somewhere other than China though.
I agree the current Buck and Schrades are an extreme value, I just cannot do the China thing if there is another option. We each make a decision with every dollar we spend. As it should be,
Received mine today. Even nicer than I expected, even though reviews are positive. I love the golden hue of the bolsters. They must mix a little brass in with the nickel. Cuts like a champ. Scary sharp. Mine has a really strong pull, almost annoyingly strong. The knife comes with a very inspirational message from CJ Buck, something that resonated with me.
I'm Pats husband and I bought a Buck Canoe at Walmart. I didn't realize it was Chinese made. It is one of the best finished knives I have ever bought for less the 100 dollars. It is true Buck quality.
Got mine today from FedEx and I love it! Best $12 knife I've ever bought, no gapping, smooth transitions, evenish grinds and shaving sharp to boot! The only problem is that I popped it into my pocket and the shield popped out 😂😂😂 I couple drops of super glue later and I was happy again. Thanks for sharing this awesome find!
I’ve had this knife for 5+ years now. I carry it off and on and it’s certainly a little beat up but the liners and springs are still tight and there’s zero blade play. It’s the knife that turned me onto canoes
Nice review TK. I put this knife in my collection a while back and really liked it. It’s a great ‘pocket ‘ knife, very comfortable to carry and yeah I know China and I won’t be skinning a deer with it but for everyday, light duty stuff I think it’s a good value. Thanks for sharing ttyl 👋
@@ThriftyKaniffy you're welcome. Yeah the girls saw the $11.37 online and ended up paying twice as much. Walmart doesn't price match their online site. It sucks but it is what it is.

I just got turned onto traditional style knives. Got mine from Walmart also, but it was $23.97. I like the pattern. Good looking knife. Not particularly sharp out of the box, but then I'm a bit obsessive about sharp knives. My coworkers used to kid me about my obsessively sharp knives. I always told them that a dull knife isn't good for much. A little work on a whetstone and a strop yielded a nice sharp edge. I think the spear point blade is a versatile design.

Aug 1/23. It doesn't seem to be available at Walmart Canada. And of course, the Buck knives they do have are MUCH more expensive than in the USA. I'm glad I bought a Buck canoe many years ago-- I have the one with plain brown wood and 3 pins each side. Nice fit and finish. Canoe style knives are the favorites in my pocketknife collection.

As soon as I ordered it, Walmart began discontinuing it. I snagged as many as I could via mail to keep in the office and give out as gifts. These are perfect whittling knives.
I ordered 4 of the 389's, 2 came in a box, 1came in a shipping envelope same day and a week later I recv.'d the 4th with one minor difference. I've also bought two that are horrible quality.. It is iffy on China knives. Not so with American Buck Knives,, they are always top shelf!
Good review. I have one myself from a box set that came with a small Solo a year ago or so. I have no problems with an overseas made knife, as Buck still does deliver quality and the majority of their line up still US made. My only complaint is the steel liner. Just looks wrong right against nickel silver, but that’s just me.

Geez, I almost bought that me of these used, on eBay for $20 and it was missing the shield. Kinda glad I didn’t as I love that jigged bone and that $11 price tag! It's the same model #, that hasn't changed. Though it does appear more brown than the other more amber looking ones out there. A production run change kinda thing.
Hi TK, happy Wednesday, thanks for the new video. It looks a bargain at under $12. Unfortunately there are no Walmarts here in Israel so unless one pops up for sale on eBay I wont get a chance to buy one, a pity as I am both a Canoe pocket knife fan & a Buck fan. ATB Steve in Tel Aviv.
That seems like a lot of hoops to jump through. I wish they would just assemble them here and sell to the Western market at a good wage for their workers on that production line. As far as the Asian export markets, I could see the necessity to manufacture in that market to sell to that market. Anyway, we are where we are.
The Buck Canoe from Walmart is a great two blade EDC. Fits well in the hand and carries well in your pocket. Sharp out of the box, with nice fit and finish. It’s a Buck so it cuts well. Forever Warranty. At the Walmart pickup price it’s a great value. - Tennessee Smoky
Because of your video...yet again...I added this knife to my WALMART delivery of groceries. Dang. This knife is really sweet. The bone is so perfect , it looks like plastic, but it is too warm to be so. Thrifty....you did us right by this one, it is a solid, good, knife. The STOCKMAN...no so much. all 3 blades are soft and have little to no snap at all in the springs. Not nearly as good as the Canoe.
100% agree. Bucks stockmans always seem to have a comparitively lighter pull even their USA made ones. Thanks for watching, Orlos and happy you found one you liked.
Fairly newsub here....really enjoying your content. Very informative and your illustrations and explanations are to the point and easy to follow....keep up the good work my good man.....God bless, HT in Arkansas 🙏 👍👊
Shortly after your video, I got on line with Walmart. They had it in stock and I ordered it. Price was $11.37 plus tax, and free delivery to my house. Love the knife. Impressed enough, and I ordered a second one. Also for $11.37 plus tax. Free delivery. Both knives are very well made, well centered. Easy to sharpen and maintain. Incredible value, given that you’ll pay up to 3 times the cost via any other online source.
I bought one of these the other day, and I think it's the best value-for-money knife in my collection. I love it. I dressed the blade just a bit, and I've been carrying since I got it. This is nice, everyday knife that's slim and easy to pop into the pocket and go wherever you want to. It's a great summertime knife. A word of warning, though. Be sure to buy this online or else make them do a website price match, because in the store the price is $23 and some change-more than TWICE the online price.
I used to be very adamant about not buying Chinese knives and I'll still be picky about the ones I do buy from China. But I buy these to use every day instead of my higher end knives. Lose it , beat it up and it's no loss. I've been carrying this one for about a year now. It cuts.
@@ThriftyKaniffy thanks, love the channel! Rough rider and Rosecraft really changed my mind on Chinese made knives. Found out about them largely in part to your channel.

@@donaldstrader7241 Sometimes the great deals turn out to be not so great when you find out that a item advertised for a low price isn't available in stores, it's called "Come On" and it's been used by retailers since Jesus was a fire fighter !
Just got it, Not big on slip joint"s but I really like it.
Cool Rydog, hope it works out for you.
@@ThriftyKaniffy Great Walmart bargain.
Nice review, John. So this is a new model? I'm gonna have to get me one as I really like the brown jigged bone canoe. Thanks for sharing, my friend.
It's the same model #, that hasn't changed. Though it does appear more brown than the other more amber looking ones out there. A production run change kinda thing.
I have one, great knife.
Thanks for having a look, Mark.
That one is impressive. Very tempting. I might have to wait til Christmas though. I have went way over my knife budget to this month 😂.
I certainly know the feeling. The more knives I buy the less I eat, great diet plan. Win-win.
I got one is the handle real bone
It is real bone. Thanks, Jeff.
Hi Steve. Yea this is a tough get outside the US. Apologies.
I was under the impression that the blades were manufactured at the buck plant then shipped to china for finishing and assembly.
That seems like a lot of hoops to jump through. I wish they would just assemble them here and sell to the Western market at a good wage for their workers on that production line.
As far as the Asian export markets, I could see the necessity to manufacture in that market to sell to that market. Anyway, we are where we are.
Nope this is one of their import models. Made in China.
Thanks Smoky, totally agree. Great value.
Glad I found your channel & just subscribed. What a great knife for such a low price! Next stop Walmart Online!
Much appreciated, Denis. Welcome to the channel.
Very nice TK, a good value as well. What do you use to polish your knifes?
I typically use a product called, Flitz. Thanks for having a watch RadioGeek
@@ThriftyKaniffygot some Flitz and going to give it a try.
I just ordered an anvil! What you got there?
Just a small one for precision work.
@@ThriftyKaniffy yeah, mine is a little more than a pound. I'm going to use it for riveting leather. I'm over due. The dining table will be happy.
Nice one. Congrats.
Thanks for watching mauzim.
Fairly newsub here....really enjoying your content. Very informative and your illustrations and explanations are to the point and easy to follow....keep up the good work my good man.....God bless, HT in Arkansas 🙏 👍👊
Thanks, HT. Welcome to the channel.
Any idea which factories these and Rough Riders are made at?
This is a Buck knife. No idea the OEM, and likely by design as a part of the contract.
Are the scales real bone, or synthetic?
Real bone.
That pretty much sums up why I made the video. Thanks, Alan.
Not bad. Just picked up two Marbles Exhibition, large toothpick and trapper, so I have currently spent my knife allowance.🤣👍
Awesome. Gotta be practical. Thanks, Alpine.
Correct, their online price is where the bargain is. Thanks, Kasim.
You bet; thanks for the video! @@ThriftyKaniffy
Can you get it in the uk
Nope, not directly.
I will not shop at Walmart because I love my country.
Where do you shop?
Sam Walton must be rolling in his grave.
Say what…?!
But does your country love you?

🤙 Tough to beat. Thanks a bunch, Chad.
Excellent value there, thanks for sharing!
Thanks Uncommon. The price belies the quality, really.
Awesome deal! Not that the wood covers aren't nice, but that jigged bone just tops it. Thank you John.
You betcha Jeroen. Probably gonna be a US only sort of thing, but I appreciate you watching buddy.
I used to have a Swiss Buck that I really loved. Not sure I could love a Chinese Buck.
Fair enough. Thanks for watching, cplski
Got one its nice!
Very cool, Kudahman. Great bargain. Thanks!
I used to be very adamant about not buying Chinese knives and I'll still be picky about the ones I do buy from China. But I buy these to use every day instead of my higher end knives. Lose it , beat it up and it's no loss. I've been carrying this one for about a year now. It cuts.
Thanks for the very pragmatic response. Welcome to the channel.
@@ThriftyKaniffy thanks, love the channel! Rough rider and Rosecraft really changed my mind on Chinese made knives. Found out about them largely in part to your channel.
@@artifacthunter Thanks, glad to hear you're enjoying the channel.
Love mine, have to say not bad for a Wally World knife. Have a good day sir
And I paid 23 for mine🤔
Yes, the price is much better online. Annoying.
Thanks for watching Calen, have a great day.
I'll just keep buying case xx
👌
That’s a fantastic deal!
Love the canoe pattern and those jigged bone covers look gorgeous 😍
Great review TK thanks for sharing 👍🏻
Thanks for watching, Sean. I appreciate it. 👍
@@ThriftyKaniffy thanks for loving China.
Some of the Buck pocket knives are made in America and are the ones I bought
Yes indeed, I own many of them. Thanks, NSWIA
Doesn't bother me that is made in China!! Still a good knife! I want the burl wood version!
$33 on Amazon. They look pretty darn nice. Thanks, Andrew.
I been carrying one for almost 2 users now. Great little packet knife that im not scared to loose/use. Takes a good edge and holds fairly well. Build quality seems good.
Thanks Koskey, good to hear from someone with actual experience with the knife. Welcome to the channel.
I ordered one yesterday, and they let me order it, too... but guess what? Presently "Out of stock" They did give me $10 off my next purchase as a consolation prize, though. (Presently waiting with bated breath for them to come back in stock.)
Awesome, hope you are able to get one. Thanks for watching.
