Gail Fisher was the yin to Mike Connors yang. She grounded the character in a wonderful way and balance the show out and nobody could replace her. You can see her love for Connors the way their chemistry was and even here she told the world how she felt about him. I was just a young boy watching this when it came out but I always felt their chemistry in the series and she has an empathetic way about her very very caring and that came across on the screen really well. The show would not have been the same without her. Until today I never saw this clip and it made me very emotional. Unfortunately neither of them is with us but they gave us all beautiful memories.
My husband and I have been hooked - we watch it every night at dinner time. I absolutely adore Gail Fisher! Loved her outfits on the show and I love the outfit she wore for the Emmys!
Wow..i LOVE this... so many never give Gail Fisher the credit she so deserved..what a Pioneer for African American Women in TV ..Gail looked sooo Amazing here too..such a GREAT Actress! RIP Beautiful Soul.
Without her there probably would never had been Phylicia Rashad, Vanessa Williams, Alfre Woodard, Halle Berry, Angela Bassett, Nia Long, Vivica Fox or Viola Davis, Taraji P. Henson, Tika Sumpter etc now.
FUN FACT: All three nominees (Gail Fisher, Barbara Anderson & Susan Saint James) each won this category for Outstanding Performance by a Supporting Actress in a Drama Series - in different years of course. Anderson won hers in 1968 (for "Ironside"), Saint James in 1969 (for "The Name of The Game") and Fisher in 1970 (for "Mannix").

I was very young when "Mannix" was on TV, but I still remember her. She was lovely. I didn't know she used drugs at one time. RIP, Gail Fisher and Mike Connors. He was so ruggedly handsome.
I loved watching Mannix and Mike Conners and the lovely Gail Fisher were my favorites.Gail was so lovely and her eyes were so exotic.God rest them both and I missed them very much.
Ms. Fisher was the FIRST Black woman, to win the Primetime Emmy Award in ANY category; for Outstanding Supporting Actress In a Dramatic Series, Mannix (1970).
That's the literal truth. The first season of Mannix was very different - Gail Fisher was not in the first season and the show was tanking. The producers wanted to cancel Mannix, but Lucille Ball (who owned the studio) convinced them to keep it going. So they revamped it - they made Mannix an independent PI and brought Gail Fisher on as his secretary. The show suddenly became a hit.
You notice how much class she had ..... The producers, studios actors back then seem to have such a certain class. It was all done so well .... From the music theme songs, to the acting..... Please bring it all back.
@@dantequinn5346 there was genuine passion to make a top rate series. The best shows didn't just throw everything and the kitchen sink. If you look at the acting, writing and directing talent that were involved in these older shows its extraordinary a nd you'd never see it today especially on network.
Gail Fisher reminds me so much of Barbara Hale. Both women played top notch Gal Fridays on two top notch crime shows and were intelligent, beautiful, classy and skilled actresses. I wish they could've worked together on something.
Be nice if they got Mike Connors' name right at the end there! Anyway, just re-watched the entire series and Gail really was good. Connors and the producers pushed hard for Fisher when CBS was leery of having a black secretary
I had no idea until just now, that she was the first Black woman to win. I'm not surprised she was the one to be first, because she was epitome of eloquence and togetherness.
As far as I know she was the first black woman to win supporting actress. Diane Carroll, not sure that I spelled her name right, one for her lead role as Julia.
I loved to watch Mannix as a kid...I loved Peggy...she made me feel safe for some reason, maybe Mannix's anchor, that was until the episode where she was kidnapped, boy was that a shock and eye opener for a 9 year old, lol. She was so pretty and I never knew she was from my neck of the woods, Orange NJ raised in Metuchen NJ.
Such a beautiful and talented actress I loved the show as a kid back then and at age 55 have started to binge watch Mannix and Hawaii Five 0 over the holidays love those old shows.
Mannix is a great show. Was on tv way before I was born but I’ve grown to love it. I used to always think shows like that were so boring during the 80s when my aunt stayed up late and watched reruns until tv went off back then. Now I find myself walking mostly older shows. They seem so soothing to me and remind me of simplier times.
“Reboot” with a classy black actress who’d do Gail proud, with NO political correctness mess?? Shows like this will NEVER EVER be repeated again, those truly were ‘the days’ (maybe not in all ways but this WAS one of them). Thanks for posting this memorable moment.
I would hate to see a reboot. There's absolutely nobody around today who could even come close to filling the shoes off Mike and Gail. That was a match made in heaven.
Ms fisher made the Mannix so much better as a very beautiful lady and actress. The only other I enjoyed very much was Barbara Hale. Both of these shows I have the complete series on DVD.
lol. They put up the name for Mike Connors as “ Chuck Connors”. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂apparently working for the academy awards knowing celebrities was not a requirement.
Class. Need more Gail Fishers and Diahann Carrolls today (women of my mother's ilk) and less trashy, tatted-up, half-naked rappers with sexually explicit lyrics, and profanity infused interviews.
