Idea for if you ever bring this game back: When someone rejects all 3 punishments (like Rhett did in this episode) they get visited by their crime boss for snitching and receive an individual punishment! This way you are incentivised to take the punishment at least once!
This would be more strategy if when there are two rejections, the two rejections are the ones that have to share the punishment. Right now, you might as well reject every time because the only way you have to do it is if all 3 people reject

I feel like the rules heavily support you to abstain regardless of what the others choose. Would have been better if 2 choose it and 1 abstains, the 1 person who abstains gets punished.
Agreed, with the rules they are using now if you abstain, you either take no punishment or a third of it. If you take the punishment you get anywhere from full to a third. There's no reason to take the punishment. With a game like this, taking the punishment should statistically have the advantage, but the way they did it, it's the complete opposite. So yeah, no reason to not abstain. An even more balanced version would need an even number of players, say 4, with 2v2 meaning the abstainers take the punishment. A scoring system in place to sow distrust and keep people from making pacts such as two people both accepting every time to avoid any punishment. Of course with a reward for the one with the highest score at the end.
