  • My first ever Track day in Sandown International Motor Raceway, Springvale, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, hosted by Driver Dynamics.
Heaps of places can be improved in the future, didn't push to limit due to lack of experience. This video is the last session on the day, excluding the final cool down lap.
    Vehicle: Civic Type R FK8 -- Near stock, 310HP(228kW AU Spec), 400N·m
    Service menu before attend:
    Engine Oil: Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5W-30 - 5.7 Quarts / 5.4L
Oil Filter: Mobil 1 Extended Performance M1-110A
    Brake Fluid: REDLINE RL-600 (2 x 473ml)
    Wheels: 19 x 8.5J (Downsized from 20 x 8.5J Stock)
    Tyres: 245/35/R19 Yokohama AD08R (1/4 slick, not really semi-slick)
Cold Tyre Pressure: 35 PSI Front, 34 PSI REAR
Target Hot Tyre Pressure: ~38 PSI Hot
Additional Harness: 4-points Harness for better stability, mounting with stock ISOFIX points on the rear driver seat + OEM harness point near door + some trick on the driver seat rail. OEM safety belt is still in use for safety.
    Camera, OBD-II & Softwares:
    RaceChrono Pro (Android)
    GoPro Hero8 Black
    OBDLINK MX+ (Bluetooth)
No brake fade during 6 sessions through the day with reasonable cool down laps. Happy with Civic Type-R's OEM Brembo brake system so far. 2-piece rotors was ordered but got delayed to arrive.
Assetto Corsa had the Sandown mod and also Civic Type R FK8 mod, which were combined and used for practices. Best time on Simulator with 320HP oversea model was 1:21.6 without heated tyres. In comparison, my best real-world attempt is 1:32.9 so far (*/ω\*)

Old mate is doing very, very well for a first go. Car is being pushed a decent bit, getting close to the limit of adhesion at quite a few points.

Thanks for your feedback. It looks much smoother than reality because of the GoPro electronic stabilization. Recently, I had another go for 1:31.79, turning off the HyperSmooth, now can feel more speed out of the video. ua-cam.com/video/FeULzvsldes/v-deo.html Still plenty of places can be improved, we keep learning :)

Thanks for the video! I want to track also, what are the rules for overtaking at sandown?

      @athrunli1365  Рік тому +1

Generally speaking no overtake within breaking zone for track day.

is there crazy people who break the rule you experienced?

Surely there are likely some rude people around but you can just give way to fast cars. Be responsible to your own safety and be calm @@insom4539

I checked the video you mentioned, which was about a heavily tuned FK8 with 250kW and Cup 2 tyres(seems to be wider than 245mm stock setting), while my car has stock power and less gripy (likely narrower as well) tyres. Times are not comparable, very different cars. Sandown has such long straights that boost in power can make big time difference. In the following track day, I improved to 1:31.7 on the same set of tyres. Definitely possible to do 1:30 if pushing harder and fully disable ESP.

did the car overheat? lots of vids from the americans imply the type r overheats. just wondering if it was the same for you.

I only pick cooler months in the year to attend track days, so I did not experience any. I also cool down a bit every 3 laps, just the way I care my car, not hard on a new lap record. I want to leave the track without any trouble at the end of the day... Just my personal approach. The stock brake rotor and pads do not hold very well, especially the rear slightly heat bending itself after the first track day you watched. It is no longer an issue after I replaced a better quality DBA T3 rear rotor and all Endless MX72+ pads. Check my newer lap video in 2022 that explains the light mod in the description.
If you want to push 12~15min a session without any cooling lap in between, I don't think many production cars can hold.

@@athrunli1365 cheers! makes sense that you do cool down laps, as do i. just find it funny how the americans are overheating it. from what ive read, it doesnt seem like they do any cool down laps and just hard lap it for 15-20mins.
