I'm sitting here wondering what the actual title for "Book" will be when a stupid conspiracy theory came to me. Kat's book will actually be called "Book" and the sequel will actually be called "Sequel." The titles have been right under our noses this whole time!
did i completely abandon duolingo to watch this video? yes. is the duolingo owl coming to kill me now? yes. is it worth it to see kat's writing vlog? Hella Yeah
2020 writing goal: write 20000 words by the end of the year. I’m an underwriter so that is a huge number😂. Good luck with querying book and with new project!
I wish you all the best during this process, Kat! You’re going to get a deal in no time, I just know it. You’ve been working so hard, it’s going to pay off!
For anyone in the query trenches, a literary agent runs a couple of writing-related blogs. QueryShark breaks down actual queries piece by piece and suggests revisions to strengthen it. Her personal blog is currently on hiatus so that she can catch up on her manuscript pile, but QueryShark has a bunch of archives to go through
Wishing you all the best in this season! No matter what happens with book, you accomplished so much and continue to accomplish lots. You've helped lots of people plan their novels and get their book in the world, you're like a book midwife :) Your time will come too!
I finished my manuscript at the end of last year so my writing goals for this year is to get notes and polish my draft and then query! Good luck with your journey!
You know Kat I'm rooting for you real hard. I hope the querying process goes by the quickest so that the book we've all seen you create little by little against all odds and all the challenges, gets to be out in the world and then eventually in our hands and our minds. I honestly can't wait. And I KNOW that I WILL cry when it happens coz I just love you so much and I'd be so happy for you and IM SO THRILLED TO READ WHAT U'VE WRITTEN
Total Vergo here... I am so guilty of making plans, so, many, plans. Luckily I like to stick to plans or beat them to a pulp so I can finish early. This year I'm going to challenge myself. Last year I took care to see how long it took me to write a novel, and I ended up writing two in less than 4 months. One of them has to be trashed (more kindling for the books rewrite), but the other is already through one round of revising and I hope to do another round before March. But lets go to lists... cause I love me some lists. Book 1: Revise, get beta reader feedback, revise once more, and send to agents before 2021 Book 2: Write Zero Draft, edit and maybe get beta reader feedback Book 3: Outline, write Zero Draft, and revise Book 4 (hopefully my Nanowrimo book): Outline, and Write Zero Draft I'm going to be a busy girl...
I just want you to know that I was feeling unmotivated to write tonight and watching your video has been so motivating! I would love to finish my story and polish it to the point that I will be querying by the end of the year. I really appreciate your videos about writing and hope you know how helpful they are just to remind myself that I enjoy this!
I'm both nervous AND excited for you! Querying is super vulnerable, and you've put so much work into Book so it matters a lot, so the anxiety makes sense. I'm rooting for you and hope Book ends up out in the world. Your strategy to work on a different project also makes so much sense! (This comment is going to be 90% me saying it 'makes sense'). Here's to hoping the 'fucking dream' comes true for you! Looking forward to the vlogging of the zero draft. I honestly just want to finish the zero draft of the book I'm working on. I know what's stopping me and it seems like my perpetual goal is dealing with my fear, really. So I'm also looking for ways to make the writing experience a bit more low-pressure and fun (writing experiments! writing groups! other thing that goes here because you have to list things in three!)
I'm querying this year too! I queried once in 2016, but turns out my book was not as ready as I thought. Thankfully one agent was kind enough to give me feedback. She told me most likely the reason for rejections was the word count length of my book was too large for the genre and age group target. (YA) Plus, my pacing. I have since taken down over 50k words and edited the book so it reads faster. It's still long at 104k words, but now it's better. lol The entire first few chapters changed since then as well. I'm hoping to get more attention this time around. Good luck!! I hope you can get an agent. Fingers crossed!! 2020 is the year to work the hardest for our dreams! :)
The title immediately sent me into a Hamilton spiral. It was glorious. Thank you for that! I'm so excited to follow your querying journey. All the fingers crossed for you!
I'm so excited that you're querying Book! It's been so cool to follow along with you on this process. Plus, your writing videos inspire me to go work on my novel and stop procrastinating XD best of luck with the querying process!!
I've given myself the holidays and the month of January off because I'm moving and starting a new job. However, I've been writing fan fiction just because I still need to write, but it's also a fun writing experience.
Best of luck with Book! It sounds like you are where I was in mid-September... I took a brief holiday break from querying the book you and your fellow NovelTea ladies read the first page of, but am back at it and just sent out the first batch of the year yesterday. I'm also really wanting to work on my book 2, but have been focusing on my standalone WIP, which I am going to finish this month! Are you planning on doing any of the twitter pitches?
I have some pretty ambitious writing goals for the year. So I’m currently drafting my first book which is book one in a (possible) quartet. My stretch deadline for finishing it is May 23, but my hard deadline is June 1. Every time I finish a block, I print it out and physically read through it and make notes and fix grammatical errors and I want to finish all of that and start the second draft by July 1. I’m giving myself three months to write the second draft before I start Camp NANOWRIMO in october where I plan to outline my nanowrimo 2020 project. I want to hit the 50k word mark by the end of November and finish the book completely by the end of the year. So yeah they’re pretty big and intimidating goals but if I push myself I feel i might be able to accomplish them
I’m rooting for you Kat. Even if this doesn’t work out for you, know that I’ll be there for the book that will be published one day :) even just your videos!
I also just sent out a batch of queries for the YA Fantasy I've been revising and writing on for all of 2019. So, I can totally relate. And I wish you all the best during the process, and I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. I'm sure you'll get that agent soon.
Kat, I wish you all the best for 2020! I have know doubt that this is your year and that you´ll find an agent soon who will love BOOK! So far I haven´t read any booktuber´s books yet because I wasn´t interested in them. But I am soooooo excited for BOOK and I am going to buy it as soon as I can. I just know I´m going to love it! Thank you for beeing you and sharing your videos with us :)
gurl, 2011is so far away that I hadn't discovered your videos then and now I'm obsessed with them😉 sending all my positive thoughts your way and wishing you the best luck in the query process, I SO believe in you💕💕💕
I'm SO looking forward to buying Book! I watched all your process of writing (which gave me a lot of energy to write my story) and I just want to know what it's all about. I really want to see what you've been working on while we supported you!
Hi Kat! This year, I'll be revising the sequel to my 2018 debut novel, FRACTURED SERAPH. I spent much of last year drafting said sequel and want to get it revised and on its way to an editor this year. I also got a job at the end of last year though, so we'll see how quickly my plan comes together. Happy drafting!
I'm sorry your querying experience was traumatizing for you. But even if you got negative feedback, it doesn't mean you shouldn't be proud of your work or that your work was bad. I would still be proud of it if I were you. I love your videos! Also I want to write a fantasy book this year that I started in November 2018! I put it down for a year because I was going through a lot but recently picked it back up!
I'm going to be querying starting in February (hopefully), so best of luck from one writer in the query trenches to another! I also queried once before and had a bad experience, so here's to both of us coming out of this one with better results, lol!
You are going to get Book out into the world and I am going to be so happy buying it :D.. my writing goal this year is to actually finish a zero draft, last year I kept jumping from idea to idea from outline to outline and never commited so I need to fully throw something out, so thats the plan (:
Good luck with querying!!! My 2020 goal is to finish the manuscript I started last year--it'll be the first manuscript I ever finish and even if it's a raging trash fire, at least it'll be a FINISHED raging trash fire I can revise.
duuuude just when i started the video i was like "damn this girl really reminds me of me.." and of course - she's an aquarius like me, and that explains a lot hehe
Good luck with the query process! I feel like I've heard that Jim Butcher was able to get published with the Dresden Files largely because at the time he had the first three novels already finished and ready to go, so that might be something to consider in your process of what to work on and when.
I know you probably want to get an agent/publisher/etc by your book merits. But it couldn't hurt to tag on to queries that 250k+ people are dying to read this book. Publishers care about money above all else. Looking forward to reading this.
I'm a filmmaker, so my goal for 2020 is to write as many feature-length scripts as I can. No hard numbers, just a general "go as far as you can!" challenge.
I think it highly likely you will get multiple offers and "Book" will be traditionally published. However, if you don't get a deal for "book" I hope you publish it yourself. I want to read it. Publish it on Amazon or whatever and I will buy it...

Self publishing is a good alternative but it should never be your last ditch effort to get your book out there. It may in fact may not be the time to publish it because the public won't be interested. You have to trust your gut. And awful books are traditionally published all the time. Freelance editors are great, but I would much prefer to have a professional relationship with an editor who has credentials in a publishing house. There's also a legitimate marketing department and my agent can help with distribution and adaptation rights. Self publishing is basically starting your own business. You can technically half ass it--edit it yourself, whip up the cover art yourself, and market it through your three social media platforms, maybe reach out to three people and that's it. But the end result won't be as good. So you'd have to really commit to it. And some of us know we'd rather just focus on the writing part than... Everything else. That's my lengthy explanation for why some people don't "just" do self publishing, lol.

hee hee, plot twist XD
Me: *debating if I should write*
Kat: *Uploads writing vlog*
Welp guess that answers that question
okay but you should definitely write after watching ;)
"Stay tuned for that next month."
*cries in present day*
did i completely abandon duolingo to watch this video? yes. is the duolingo owl coming to kill me now? yes. is it worth it to see kat's writing vlog? Hella Yeah

Good luck with querying book and with new project!

“I love making a plan as much as I love yeeding that plan out the window.” I feel this quote on a spiritual level...
The writing vlog of prophesy has arrived! The goddess of writing has blessed us with Hamilton references and writing rambles! Happy new year, Kat!
haha thank you! and happy new year to you as well! :)
I wish you all the best during this process, Kat! You’re going to get a deal in no time, I just know it. You’ve been working so hard, it’s going to pay off!

I finished my manuscript at the end of last year so my writing goals for this year is to get notes and polish my draft and then query! Good luck with your journey!

I love your voice! It reminds me of Jennifer Tilly
Can we see your bullet journal for 2020?
I wish you all the best
I think of you have worked hard enough then it will be picked up
Can’t wait to read it Kat 👌🏻
Happy 2020, Katy! All the best in the querying trenches.
Query angst. So real. Thanks for your honesty. Best wishes to you.
Katy, you got this! Can't wait to watch the good-news video about the awesome outcome of your query send!
I just want you to know that I was feeling unmotivated to write tonight and watching your video has been so motivating! I'm so excited that you're querying Book! It's been so cool to follow along with you on this process. Plus, your writing videos inspire me to go work on my novel and stop procrastinating XD best of luck with the querying process!!
honestly thank you so much for being so honest, it makes me feel better about my own works and progress!
loving the hamilton singing at the start hehe
My life is also very uncertain right now, so I relate! But everything will work itself out. Sending good vibes your way! ✨✨✨✨
thank you! sending good vibes your way too! :)

I'm going to be sad when Book is no longer called Book.
Good luck Kat! Whatever 2020 brings we're eager to continue this writing journey with you!

the advice every writer gets from an agent when querying - start writing another book
You are going to get Book out into the world and I am going to be so happy buying it :D.. my writing goal this year is to actually finish a zero draft, last year I kept jumping from idea to idea from outline to outline and never commited so I need to fully throw something out, so thats the plan (:
I’m just beyond excited for the day I can read your book
I'm so glad I wasn't the only one making the Hamilton reference
Kat!!! I can't wait till you get published I am so looking forward to the day where I can read your work (:
thank you!!
Yayayay more vlogs. Please take down more post it notes.
I haven’t had time to watch the video yet but wow did that video title throw me back to 2016 with King George
Omg I didn't know you were writing a book! Is there a title out for it yet? You have me excited now. (:
Good luck with querying!!!
My 2020 goal is to finish the manuscript I started last year--it'll be the first manuscript I ever finish and even if it's a raging trash fire, at least it'll be a FINISHED raging trash fire I can revise.
thank you!! and good luck with finishing that manuscript! you can do it!!
Who immediately thought of Spanish when they saw quieres
Bring back Cooking With Kat, PLEASSEEEEE.
I'm going to comment that on every video until you do, so please bring it backk❤❤
Is an agent the same thing as a publisher? Or does the agent help you find a publisher?
duuuude just when i started the video i was like "damn this girl really reminds me of me.." and of course - she's an aquarius like me, and that explains a lot hehe
wow who's gonna tell January 2020 Kat that not having strict plans past march was probably for the best...
good luck!!
When I saw the title.
Oceans rise ! Empires fall!
Querying is an extremely nerve-racking thing. I wish you the best!!
thank you!!
Good luck on querying Kat!
thank you!!
I am so excited to read your book!
i’ve never clicked so fast omg
👁👄👁hair lookin' snatched
OMG! I'm so excited!
Good luck!
I am so excited for you!!
Good luck with the query process! I feel like I've heard that Jim Butcher was able to get published with the Dresden Files largely because at the time he had the first three novels already finished and ready to go, so that might be something to consider in your process of what to work on and when.
Get it girl!
Trying to pull myself back into my book this year. Work on a more detailed outline then start my first chapter of said book..
Hoping to finish my novel and query by the end of the year. Good luck!
thanks!! and good luck to you too!!
Best of luck with querying ! 😊
thank you :)
Wishing you the best of luck! ✨✨✨
thank you!
To finally finish redoing my book and releasing it on Amazon.
"My virgo rising ass" Kat
I think it highly likely you will get multiple offers and "Book" will be traditionally published. However, if you don't get a deal for "book" I hope you publish it yourself. I want to read it. Publish it on Amazon or whatever and I will buy it...
Are you going to AWP this year?
Question: Why not self-publish in case you don't get an agent? In any case, I hope everything works out fine, Kat. I am rooting for you from this tiny little Island I live in, in the middle fo the Atlantic Ocean, Tenerife.
Self publishing is a good alternative but it should never be your last ditch effort to get your book out there. Obviously there's a lot of reasons agents might turn your book down that have nothing to do with the quality of the product--like the market isn't looking good for your genre or they're unsure which editors would accept the book and be able to work with it.
But the honest truth is that your book may just not be ready for publishing. It may need another rewrite or revisions. It may in fact may not be the time to publish it because the public won't be interested.
You have to trust your gut. And awful books are traditionally published all the time. But it certainly doesn't help the self publishing market to just throw stuff in there that was endlessly rejected.
In addition, some people want the traditional publishing experience.
