Tales of Life on the Frontier was my entry into Elite. We were too young to understand how to play the game or even get off Sirocco Station without crashing or being shot, so we gave up playing it. However, one day, I read the stories, which inspired me to read the manual, which contained the quick start guide, and here I am 30 or so later, all thanks to the lore that came with the game!
Just got back into Elite, found this channel yesterday. Glad to see it's alive.

I remember when Jaques station used to bunce around the bubble jumping from one system to another every few weeks or so.
I'm so glad, that people like you, take their time to tell about the lore of Elite, to keep this story alive.
I love the Elite community and the Elite team, that both of them are working together.

Travelled to Colonia and back to the bubble twice now...might need to pop back out there again at some point, last time i attempted Beagle Point i hadn't the jump range but now i have so it might be worth it. Great video Drew, love the excerpts from the Frontier novella too and excellently voiced by your good self.

Its an interesting story that of Jaques, I only knew of it from googling but you tell the story much better, I wish they could get story writers like yourself more involved with Elite, to provide little side quests which reveal themself in a way that is more obvious than the current system, maybe you have a random encounter with a mysterious NPC when walking around a space station, these could be station specific or feature when you advance past a certain threshold ie elite in mining etc.

I remember when the misjump happened and cmdrs were hunting and searching, if I remember right there was a CG too to repair the station - was a very long haul

I remember the rescue mission, and the Christmas Convoys! When interiors were added, I was hoping the bartender at Jaques Station would be a Cyborg. But, no. Oh well, another chance missed Frontier!
That was a missed opportunity I feel!
I've missed these. Made it to Colonia myself recently, despite being around when his ship first got stranded there. Elite just wouldn't be the same without this kinda lore.

Imagine if Cmder Cly never found Jaques until this day. I feel like the dynamic of the timeline would be vastly different to what it is now. Interesting to think what may be different.
I heard about colonia from various sources but I had no idea about the lore behind it.

A book with the lore of elite would be nice I and many do not know a lot about the history of the game .Perhaps you could write a book ?

Just go there now! Lol. If you just want to get to Colonia, just to get there, without exploration, on the way, you have a few great options. Build yourself a Jumpaconda, then use the Neutron star highway and you can get there in 2 to 3 hours. I believe the record time is under 2 hours lol. This does take some getting use to, and engineering to max range. Or (the safest way) you could find one of many Cmdrs running a bubble to Colonia ferry service, with his fleet carrier. They even let you know when they are departing, and give you an ETA, so you can just log in when the trip is complete, if you want. Colonia has lots to see and do, and the space surrounding Colonia has some of the most gorgeous discoveries worth exploring too, so you can find plenty to do, making the trip well worth it! I have ships permanently based in Colonia, for whenever I make the trip😊

The new modified sco drives are reasonably easy to get. Make sure you can repair modules, and use a neutron plotter.
Your patience for hyperspace jumps may vary, but if you avoid peak playercounts it's usually only a few hours to get there.
Worth considering taking an indirect route and straying from the neutron stars a little every once in a while. Best way I've found to get exploration rank.
