2:40 - try using break parts cleaner to clean the sediment cup. It works really well and won’t deteriorate rubber gaskets like carb and throttle body cleaner.

I appreciate how you show all the "nasty" spots and all that. I am personally a lover of native grasses and flowers existing in dense diversity, but I still appreciate the care and interest you put into your property.

I know you say your not a how to channel, but you're definitely my inspiration. Took my lawn down to an inch and it sprung back green. I will go for a half inch in the fall. I want a reel mower bad. And found a local commercial Toro dealer with demo models for sale.

At 14:28 you mention top-dressing. This is where I get confused because I know you use sand to level. When you mention top-dressing are you talking about putting soil down, or sand? I’ve heard a few of the lawn guys on UA-cam say that you don’t want to create different layers.
    Thanks!

Hey Connor, what if you had a nursery section of sod you could use to replace those areas of perennial rye. You could just dig up the section of rye and replace it with a piece of kbg from your nursery area. It would be a nearly instant repair.

  • @critterdude311

My $0.02: those are not perennial rye plants, but rather, poa triv baby plants. Poa Triv tends to have a shiny back side of the leaf, so it is similar to PRG in that sense. It likely came in during the overseeding process. Lots of guys on thelawnforum website have reported similar issues over the past few years after overseeding. The problem is poa triv is a perennial (as opposed to poa annua) and it spreads via seed & stolons, so simply nuking the yard does not always work as there is still viable seed or stolons in the soil.
Connor - if it turns out it is poa triv, you are going to want to sod cut out the infested areas to get rid of the stolons and seed bank in the soil, otherwise my fear is you will be playing whack-a-mole on it every year.
