I really enjoy watching Doubles, especially Mixed. The contrast between the guys and the girls tends to make for an interesting matchup. I really felt for the girl on the white team on return; that lefty serve is nasty! Overall the grey team were just a little bit stronger in all areas but still a very enjoyable match to watch.
I know Australia is a very blessed country when it comes to outdoor sports. I have enjoyed playing tennis all my life and would say I am competent above average player. What I am bewildered about is your ranking system. Australia must apply something of a similar system, if it works. Consistency with lack of errors earns you a greater seed in division because of game countback and game average. I am glad UA-cam provides a stage for all levels of sport. I hope the regionals give you guys the experience you need and want.
Wow, fun watch, great looking doubles, very high skill levels! I'm too old to try the I formation, even if I could get down that low I'd never be able to get up. 😅
lol. I find it a little easier standing farther back with my back bent rather than up close to net with my knees bent. Feel like I get a quicker jump to net as I'm not starting super low position.
Try the Candian position. The net person stands about 3-4 feet to the left of the center line when the server is serving from the ad court. Server serves from the singles position. You don't have to bend down. It's easy to poach for a righty (on the forehand side), and it gives the server a down the line forehand to hit (or you can come in behind the serve. IT takes away the cross-court return of serve if the returner is grooved on that shot....They will often miss the return. The best defense for the returner is to lob crosscourt into the server's ad side.
@@joemarshall4226 Nice JM! So this forces the returner to hit down the line, and if someone has a big enough serve to go wide that may be tough for them to pull that off. Kinda leaves one side of the court open, but could be a nice gamble to take a few times a set, especially if your opponents are nailing the cross court returns.
The guys are hitting back flat bullets. When you do this in doubles and if the other guy intercepts the bullet then the speed works against you and you don't have time to recover..
8th game was awesome. Also, a match like this deserves a multi-cam setup. I would like to do that some time... with 3 angles. That would be so much fun! Lol.
Some really nice shots. I'm not a huge believer in the non-server squatting in the middle. That is not an easy way to react to the return coming at you. You have to get up, then track the ball coming to you -- its doable, but not easy.
IMO it usually works best in two scenarios: 1. The partner has an excellent serve (i.e. huge and/or highly varied and accurate). 2. As a way to disrupt the focus and timing (legally) of the returner, especially if they are really dialed in and hitting consistently tough returns when the serving team is in standard formation.
@@johnnybgood1169 Yes, but in 1) if the person has a great serve, then the net player could almost play anywhere and 2) I agree with this, but a good returner would see the net player in the middle as a great opportunity to go down the line or directly to the body of the net player. Certainly I wouldn't do the squat thing on a second serve. The net player would stand up from the squat and get drilled.
I like to mix it up. Another option is go Australian/Canadian and force the returner to hit down the line. Will say, LSU lady and 2HF do it all time in their match and had a strong win in this video - ua-cam.com/video/HkYQFBwSufs/v-deo.html. Think they are highly ranked together in the Adult Open rankings as well.
@@oldretrogamer78 I don't prefer the "I" formation either, but returning ACCURATELY off a strong serve (100+ mph) is very difficult. Players will often defend their returns nearer to the middle for safety which allows the net player to look like a hero. Obviously, if the net player isn't very flexible or mobile, the "I" is not a smart tactic.
Very good mixed doubles with different strategies shown...nice. Interesting the lefty played the deuce court. Too bad the man in white had a bad serve day otherwise we should have seen a tiebreaker.
So you’re coming up on 10k subscribers. How about celebrating 10k with a new camera? Your footage is still consistently fuzzy or out of focus. I think your channel puts out enough good content to justify it.
Thanks. This video is the first video with a new phone camera. Recently talked to videographer about cameras. The other option is to use DSLR but it's not the best option for us at this time. However, if we continue to grow maybe we can hire someone to professionally video our matches and continue to raise $ for our tennis charity.
Nice to see more doubles on the channel, especially from such good players. Hope to see more!
Thanks for the feedback. We’ll show another tomorrow.
Grey shirt guy has an awesome lefty serve, its deadly. Great doubles match!
Agree- and gets a high percentage of first serves in as well.
And the other guy couldn't get his first serves in to save his life. His team was easily outmatched. Great match, though.

The lefty's serve was amazing...and he rarely hit a second serve.
@@TennisTrollChannel !20-130 mph on that flat serve?
@@joemarshall4226 it’s big, but spiny too. The flats are big. Hard for me to judge unless returning it. I was watching from a distance.
Great mixed dubs match. Love the dubs content. Keep it coming 👍

6:06 I see gray shirt go behind the back to force an error. Unreal reflexes.
That was ridiculous. 😆 Harlem Globetrotting!

@@joemarshall4226 I use this set up if I think returner cannot hit may struggle to hit a backhand down the line well on as side.

That behind the back shot = something else I’ve never managed to do on a tennis court.
Maybe a video showing us how to hit that shot would be excellent : ]
This match is on a different level. Youth and UTR 12, good team play. And the first game was tough.

It is a good level but the girls are likely in the UTR 9-10 range.
I believe the lady in gray has a UTR of 10P from website.
You don't want to be hitting alot of flat bullets
in doubles.
Great to see doubles players playing as a team.

It sounds like @halffulltome is offering to help fund a camera upgrade! So generous!
First serve percentage is horrible. Not much difference between their first and second serves.
Points are also so short, seems like a battle of power than wit or skill
I certainly wouldn’t describe that is high-octane mixed doubles what a disappointment
