- After months of waiting patiently with an urgent need for speed, Gav has finally got his hands on a Tesla Model 3 Performance and puts his right foot to the floor (as legally as he can, of course) in this week's video. This car made Gav FEEL something, from slight annoyance at the largely unnecessary removal of the indicator stalks to absolute joy at the insane ride.
With supercar-like speed, Gav finds out if the comfort and drive feel is up to standard and will prevent you from seeing a chiropractor. But is this upgrade worth the extra $21,000 and how different is it really to the base model? Big thanks to Misha Charoudin for the epic clips of the Tesla Model 3 Performance on the Nürburgring! Check out the full video here:

I have one in Aus and it’s an absolute blast. Easily the best value performance car money can buy.
its not the stalks, its the failure to put the butttons on the right side of the whelel for our market where we drive on the left. With stalks, Ok, painful and maybe even a deal breaker, but it costs money to change he stalks over. Why couldnt they change the buttons? That would have made buttons better than stalks!
The new Model 3 Performance weighs less than the original at 1854kg. Not 1929kg. I would sell a kidney for an M3P! Another great vid Gav, bravo.
Bravo Gavin.
This is beige car journalism.
We we come to power, things will change for the beiger. -Gav
Frickin' Leon. He's the reason I really don't want to own this car! But he's also the reason these cars are such good value at the moment! It's a conundrum for sure!
One thing I noticed from this video was the camera you had mounted on the windscreen shaking. Maybe it was emphasised by the reflection in the display, but it is the first time I have seen it. Does that indicate just how “firm” the ride is in the M3P?
I found the acceleration in the Seal Performance nauseating, I assume this being 0.7 seconds quicker, would be even more so. Those wheels look like they are just waiting to get kerbed.
I have installed a HUD and S3XY knob in my current Model 3, so can attest to your comment about having to install aftermarket ‘stuff’ in a Tesla to make it more practical.
Yes the boot is a good size, but I wish they had made it a hatch, like every other Tesla (S, X and Y anyway).
@@dingbatt it's not firm at all, iv had modified Japanese cars all my life with coilovers and my 24 performance has the softest suspension iv ever felt , it's when you accelerate or brake it's like riding a horse how much it sways
Want one of these so badly! RWD model 3 is fine, but I used to ride sportbikes. I want it to choose violence when I put the accelerator to the floor
I'd say 2 tons needs 4x4 or it won't hook up . 3 sec sport bikes are the best value for this kind of punch but I want one too and I'd give up riding to do it
@@CarkeekW the premium you pay for the car is for the assurance that you probably won’t die every time you hammer it
@Tommmmmmmmmmmm 35 years on motorbikes and counting I think there are a few things that help with avoiding death but one big mistake on a bike it's likely , in this car you would likely walk away , that is the big difference
That’s a hilarious end description 🤣🤣 I’ve ordered one, comes in anytime now to early Dec. So it’s starting to dawn on me now I’m about to own one!
@@gbhall when did you order? I ordered Aug 11, straight after my test drive! Still in the Oct -> Dec '24 club tho.
Hahaha! That face as you launched! 😂
*I got very sweary and made the exact same face launching an XPower this week. And the Tesla's quicker? Ye gods!
Do you get quotes for comprehensive insurance on the electric vehicles you test? I was thinking of buying a 2022 Tesla 3 and quotes were around $4000 per annum! Thats 80 bucks a week. I'm in Australia. I should mention quote was for only $40,000.00 cover
thank you for this video… was wondering if I should get P or LR and you end-of-video had me compelled to get the M3P though Tesla just reduced Referral Discount to $500 today 😳
Great video thanks for the sharing ! @Ecotricity NZ !
People have been reporting that on track after 2 or 3 laps the battery performance dropped a lot, not only the breaks heating
Most severe said that its a straight line car without soul...
Do you feel the same ?
Also the youtube who goes on Nurburg has changed some things on his car to make it adapted to tracks
Thanks for the forecast! I have a quick question: I have a SafePal wallet with USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). How should I go about transferring them to Binance?
I think you've been drinking too much Cripto Juice...
It's amazing value and looks oh so good!
Model S has the beige interior option, is really nice!
Awesome machine - I wish I could find a way to convince the Mrs we need one!
Indicator buttons would be so much better if left thumb turned left, right thumb turned right.. That works well on other cars with no stalks so not sure why Tesla though putting them on the same side would make sense.
The reason the there isn’t stalks is because the USA has zero to very few roundabouts… it is more of a UK European thing!
I don’t know about China but perhaps we need Giga Berlin Model 3?! 😋
No - its because All Teslas are capable of autonomy and the car will be smart enough to do those functions for you.
Shame that NZ isnt getting the 610hp one, but nice to know my 2019 M3P is still relevant and just as quick.
The new one is a tenth or two faster 0-40mph, but very similar after that. The 2019 is still damn good
that's a nice color
I think there is a Model Y in Palmy with plates starting PSC with a number after.
Options means cost. Not only for optional trims, but in general. Tesla does not build based on order. So hard to predict which trims to build. So if you like the price, don't ask for options.
I just can't get over the indicator buttons being on the left side of the wheel.
Get over it
@@simon-c2y spend a couple of days with it, you will probably like it more than stalks
I have a Skoda where they didn't swap the stalks over for the left hand drive market. Fair enough it saves money. I hate it so much. Have to think to turn the wipers on. If I suddenly need to change lanes you'll see my wipers start up, me curse, them the indicators turn on. Ok I'm uncoordinated, I've been driving the car for years.
When the buttons contriversy started I thought - great, they made the wheel symmetrical and a simple programming change - at last Tesla will have the controls on the proper side of the wheel. The best part is no part, Elon genius, showing the car manufacturers what they should be doing.
But no! The stupid buttons are on the wrong side.
good report, Gav. tidy editing too
Thanks mate!
Great review, for a little bit less $ though I'll probably go the model 3 long range
Is that a standard colour?
No, red is spendy
Looks like they fixed the damn auto wipers.
BEst car ever made!!! Period.
Wonder how long it will take a geo guesser to find out were this Gav secret driving road is?
Ssshhhhhhh ;)
No temp sensor on the brake. All software gereated
Fun review
I like their cream interior on the X
You can’t get hold of these things but if they offered a brown leather version, adding inventory cost to the range! they would sell? 🤣
Design by Californian geeks who live in a country where they have never used or even seen a roundabout. There is big roundabout in Houston but the city planners put up signs telling the wrong travel flow to yield it is thus a death trap.
IV got one in Australia, for me the suspension was way to soft so I ordered some MCA pro sport coilovers and the brakes were terrible so getting some unplugged performance street and track pads
I hear you on the performance feeling illegal. I daily a Model S Plaid here in Europe, and I consider myself to be a responsible driver, but the thought of some less considerate people getting their hands on so much power scares me.
I mean, in a few years these things are coming on the market second-hand at prices that will be almost too democratic (not that money is a warrant for being a good driver, but especially younger drivers have less budget).
I don't want my kid to drive a car like this before he is... 40?
You can limit the power via software. You can definitely have a slow model 3 performance
You need to film the speed demo from outside the car (with the help of an assistant?). Filming it from the inside of the car can’t quite convey the sense of speed.
I'd love to try that! Neat idea! -Gav
Test drove this but i just can’t justify spending 85k on it its not worth it.
0:03 Bro what, I got my new performance in a week...
No question its a great car. From my point of view, the lack of stalks is a down grade (I don't subscribe to the view point some have, mostly from the USA, that they are clutter and the cars better off without them). Also I think, for many people, the Tesla brand has lost some of its shine with recent political moves of its leader. I recently had a friend say to me "Driving a Tesla is like driving around in a car with a swastika on it"! Not selling my 2022 Model 3 RWD though.
That Jimmy Carr joke was brilliant. I bet if you tapped his chin, it would also feel like plastic. That joke just keeps giving.
I may not be as funny as Jimmy Carr but I do get the same amount of heckling! :D -Gav
@@EcotricityNZ Incidentally, I'm going to see him live in about a month. In Bratislava, of all places. Maybe I could ask him if his chin does actually feel like plastic. If I can find a way to turn it a funny heckle.
Are you serious?! I saw him in Blava when I lived there! I even had the chance to interview him for RTVS! What a small world. You're gonna have a great time. -Gav
Best car I've ever owned.
Trying to picture a scenario where I'd have to use the indicator stocks WHILE turning the wheel but I can't. Why would you be trying to indicate mid-roundabout-turn?
The scenario where you indicate prior to exiting the roundabout, particularly where it's a small one with mere seconds between one exit and the next? Unless you drive a BMW, in which case I'm led to believe that indicating is optional
I concur on the brown interior.. I had an e-tron GT in tactical green with full brown interior and wood grain dash and it was stunning...
YES. A fellow brown interior enthusiast! Our day shall come. -Gav
Rigorous tests show it's well ABOVE EPA range estimates at 75mph hyy. But U don't bother to test and instead project your expectations?
Yes that is the Tesla/EPA *history.*
Anyway--appreciate the vid and opinions.
Save your breath asking for more interior colour options. Elon is all about cost cutting and minimalism.
Looks good but I wouldn’t buy one.
Lack of buttons, need a gauge cluster and no levers (stalks) on the steering column.
Too much touch screen control, an annoying distraction.
I've solved all these problems with the S3XY buttons + knob
I wish they'd bring back stalks... it's so useless to not have 'em. I have a Model Y but if they keep the stalkless design, my next EV will NOT be a Tesla! :) Awesome vid as always Gav. you rule.
You can add them back on for 400 USD. But Tesla will not be bringing them back. I love my 2024 M3P without the stalks. It’s so much more ascetically pleasing
@@deanprater12 form over function is not what I need, roads are dangerous enough with all the dual cab idiots out there
@@ThePantheonsI agree with you. But I’ve I live in the states and actually prefer the blinkers on the steering wheel in the use case too.
Great review Gav. I very recently bought a Kia EV6 GT-Line in Oz after pondering all of the available cars for years. I'm a Petrolhead and I love straight line performance, but I don't even need to put the EV6 into Sport mode to smoke anyone at the lights. I love the fact that Elon made all of the other car makers sit up and take notice, but let's just say I will never buy one of his cars.
No speedo, then no indicators and drive selector. These are not problems that I have ever had….. why fix them?
Speedo is closer to the centre than the old Mini. Never an issue.
There clearly are indicators and drive selector.
Indicator comments are getting boring as owners say its no drama but reviewers…
Drive selector is again no drama. Mostly car chooses the gear anyway. Is a hassle in parking, if you dont use the auto parking.
Like your old flip phone when U never had a problem w the keypad. Speedo and everything else and much more are *all there.*
@@Mrbfgray still have a key pad to type in telephone numbers.
I just think thanks to the CEO that their sales have fallen for obvious reasons. Personally though the looks are not my thing interior or exterior.
Great technology but the interior of my bus looks more exciting than this car
Tesla Interior design language is from Anders Bell - chief interiors designer from Volvo,
latterly Peter Blades. Most liked interior/exterior from premium customers on Kelley Blue Book survey.
If you don't like Scandinavian design then listen to the stereo - best available, from ex Bang & Olufsen engineers.
Agree. Interior is boring af.
@@waynerussell6401 There is a difference between minimalistic beautiful and simple boring. This is simple boring.
They just want to save money and using stupid marketing excuses which most people will not be gullible to believe
@@onioni111111 Biggest selling vehicle in the World - Model Y!
@@waynerussell6401 So are the vacuum cleaners from Target and Kmart.
Bracing seats are terrible for elderley or any passenger with a physical disability.
True but an elderly person shouldn't be buying the performance version. Decreased reaction speed and 0-60 of around 3 seconds is an accident waiting to happen. Sure the normal 3's don't have this the performance is more of a niche market.
@eldridgep2 Why not? I am a senior citizen and love my Model 3 performance every day. With over 42 years of driving experience, I am a safer driver than a lot of young, inexperienced drivers on the road today. The 0 - 100kph acceleration in 3.4 sec is absolutely amazing
Trouble is dude….. I know of Tesla drivers in their sixties and seventies that are driving this car!!!
But I’m totally unaware of any formula one team that are hiring drivers that are in that age range!!!
Tesla is supplying F1 cars to geriatric people!!!
And that ain’t a smart thing!!!
Just imagine Sir Bob Jones behind the wheel of a Tesla????
Regards Ian 👨🎤🇳🇿👍🍸🍸
Tesla is not supplying F1 cars. What they are supplying is one of the safest cars on the planet with a 5 star safety rating in every category. Why shouldn't I, as a senior citizen with over 42 years of driving experience want to feel safe from all the other crazy drivers around me and have fun getting to the posted speed limit in my Model 3 Performance at the same time.
man, they all look the same and boring as
