100% , some factory N/A engines are simply detuned(as in the OEM simply removed the turbos and left everything we consider boost critical intact; save for timing) . basically any engine that spent time in Group C(M119,AJ12) , GT1(M120,LT5) , or BTCC(F20)
I have an upgraded turbos, manual swapped BMW 135i as it sits today. I bought it 6 years ago when I was 18, with a stage one tune and exhaust. Then I did intakes, then eventually downpipes, chargepipe with BOV, intercooler, fueling and all the maintenance. I thought it was a rocket already. Once I really got comfortable with the power I upgraded the turbos to bigger twins and it makes 500 whp on the conservative 93 octane map and somewhere north of 550 whp on ethanol. Only issue with the car was the automatic transmission started slipping as it couldn’t take the power but I always craved for the car to be manual. Eventually swapped it and will never sell this car. What I’m getting at is get used to power levels in stages instead of going straight for a fully built car especially if you’ve never owned one before. Do as much of the work yourself as possible so you can learn and truly understand your machine. Happy wrenching and drive your cars guys!
This video is made for me lol I just boosted my gr86 and I’m not gonna say it wasn’t easy but it’s definitely doable on your driveway and we’ll worth it!!
Your example is literally what I am currently working on.😂 '99 Eclipse 420a. I sourced an actual stage 2 Hahn kit with fuel pump, injectors, and fmu for less than a grand. Also found a Fluidyne radiator that they used to make to fit the 420a cars. I think I'm at the point of just building the car the way I wanted to back in the day, just not cutting any corners.
It's hard to find a stock high compression NA motor that handles boost better than a coyote. It's probably hard to find a stock turbo motor that handles boost as well as a coyote.
Been wanting to supercharge my E36 M3 for a while, but decided that I want to do an ITB kit first and see what I can get out the S52 without forced induction first.
Wait.... why did you not speak with Alex before he made the 370z vid!? He totally dodged the whole boosting segment in favor of how good it is naturally aspirated. He could have narrowed the turbo/supercharger options. He made a good point..... but we want options! Nice job on this vid.
I boosted my 2016 ND mx5 with 13.1 compression ratio and Its set to 6 psi of boost, it may not be a lot but the high pressure exhaust builds boost immediately.
i’m seriously considering turboing my 22 civic. it’s the NA k20c2. there’s, like one example of someone turboing this motor and he kind of got laughed at. but in theory it should be a great candidate. the compression is already pretty low (10:8:1), it’s an extremely reliable motor. but yeah without much help online it’s going to be a challenge, like i don’t really know what the stock fuel system can handle, or the clutch. plus i kind of want a shop to do it because i don’t trust myself not to blow up a pretty new car
Yeppers, I’ve owned a Impreza 2.5rs 2005MY for almost 20 years now and have gotten so many funny questions from car people and non car people. Even Subaru enthusiasts that where is the big wing? Where is the hood scoop? They look under hood and ask where is the turbo? Early on I always wanted to turbo kit it or swap it with a wrecked donor car. The car or sentimental to my now, first new car at 21 car I got married in auto cross track days etc… in 2016 I puts cams in it and a bunch of other goodies already had bolt ins exhaust CAI upgraded suspension and brakes already on it. Got her tuned and it puts down to the wheels about what a stock bug eye 2.0L wrx would make and weights about 150-200 lbs lighter. Is it “fast” ? NO bit is it quick and fun to drive hells yeah!!
Considering buying a MK4 Supra with no engine and a W58 for $27k and just buying a GTE engine and a Tremec T56. Wonder how much everything will cost after labor etc
Supercharger will be easier and more reliable, the good one like infinitas supercharger only cost around 3k and came with everything you need for a m54b30 engine
Note that sometimes you need to learn the car before diving into that much power. For that reason I have not boosted my EP3
That and also it's expensive and not everyone is able to do it
Either themselves or have the funds to have a shop do it for them
I want an ep3 soooo bad but the ones I find just ain't worth it your lucky my friend🇺🇸
I agree. It's why I no longer want to turbo charged my super charged C class
@@nathanharris1445 I have an ep3 and tbh you should just go for the 8th gen. Ep3 and dc5 suspension geometry is kind of a nightmare
Modern ECU's make it a lot safer to boost NA cars then in the past, that being said... not all rods are equal.
Short answer : it depends on the car and your HP goals. Some stock engine NA cars are actually better on boost than some factory turbo cars.

You CAN Do It, If You Can Tell The Engine Can Handle It aka LS or 2j

It's an na 8 cyl vr38, it's almost like it was meant to be boosted. If only it was in an awd coupe, I'd be building one of those instead of a b58.
you can do it, just understand its like a ticking time bomb.
Like anything it depends
welp i gotta turbo my gr86 to be one of the people to find out if its bad or not
Who made gels do the "adding a turbo to an NA" video lol
Can you turbo a Chevy Volt?
If they can turbo an electric Porsche, then yeah!
Lol $30 for a shirt that says "Garage Shirt" on it. 10/10 troll merch :D.

It’s not always about the money or the power. Sometimes it’s about doing something your way… and having fun doing it.

I have a k24a2, I think I’ll be okay 😊
If your car is naturally aspirated it is safer to Supercharger it. If its already a turbo car then upgrade the turbos.
Supercharged my NA car and it’s been like 19k miles since then

Yes.
My rb25de Neo would love 10psi
I wanted a 300hp gt86 but it’s too expensive
Laughs in Ls,coyote,k series
Have been watching since the begining ..keep it up buddy🎉❤
What about a standard e46 330ci? Na d do those electric turbos really worth the money?
Supercharger will be easier and more reliable, the good one like infinitas supercharger only cost around 3k and came with everything you need for a m54b30 engine
K24 with a turbo kit ebay
Should you Mod a Kei Truck????

*laughs in n/a 2JZ*
3000-7000$
3:18 what is a 428? A BMW?
Being there done that... always buy a car it was turbocharged from the factory. Otherwise, it is like opening a can of worms
Always depends
Why is this channel so unsuccessful?
91k subs is anything but unsuccessful
