      +AvengerXP Neither is acetone if you have any idea of our metabolic cycles, nor hydrogen peroxide if you've ever taken a biology class... ever. *****
      Nope, they are distinct flavours with seperate receptors and seperate purposes. Basically bitter tastes indicate poison or at least it did hundreds of thousands of years ago. That's why things with a strong bitter taste are awful unless you are used to them and bitter foods tend to always be an acquired taste. Sourness, on the other hand, detects acidity which is useful for telling if certain foods have gone offf etc. Sourness tastes sharp, tangy and well like the flavour you get from eating the flesh of citrus fruit. Bitterness tastes earthy, burnt, unpleasant and is accompanied by an an urge to spit out whatever you have in your mouth (at least until you get used to it in a paticular food or drink).
      Sourness tastes sharp, tangy and can be pleasant or unpleasant depending on the strength of the flavour and what accompanies it. Often sourness is used to complement sweetness in various desserts or, of course, naturally in most fruits.

    • @ToxisLT
      @ToxisLT 8 років тому +3

      +al whits there's not that much to tell about DMT, not because it's not interesting, it's uber interesting, it's because due to the &^*(*#&$(@ war on drugs, science is unable to experiment and understand these compounds. One of the very few experiments done by Rick Strassman, was written about in a book and a documentary called "DMT, the Spirit molecule". And that's about it... Thanks war on drugs, for stopping not the use of drugs, but only scientific inquiry.

    • @daanwilmer
      @daanwilmer 8 років тому

      @LuaanTi 6 років тому

      +Coppertunes Not grey in my experience, though it's certainly preferentially dark. But my guess would be that the colour is rubbed off differently (ever got blue legs from your jeans?), or is deeper in the shirt (the lint comes from fibers rubbed off the surface, dyes are deeper). It's not like the dye changes the colour of the cotton - it just coats it. What you're seeing is the colour of "clean" cotton.

    So... If DMT is found in our body, could that possibly be responsible in part for our dreaming? And the less DMT found in us at a given time could dictate things such as the vividness of the dream, and how likely we are to actually believe that we had dreamt the previous night?
    Sorry if I just made people facepalm, just a curiosity.

    • @blunteddful
      @blunteddful 8 років тому +2

      I thought the same. I'm pretty sure at least one of the scientists who discovered that chemical also thought the same and... it wasn't what we thought right know... or maybe there is hope and they're trying to figure it out, who knows.

    • @angelpygs72

      +Daniel Harrow Well, that is what it actually is for. Or, at least, as far as we know. www.erowid.org/chemicals/dmt/dmt_article2.shtml So far, we have at least partially documented the release of DMT in R.E.M sleep. It releases in small amounts that give us the non addictive trip we associate with dreams. Also, as a bonus fact, apparently it releases in massive quantities when we die, causing us to go on the wildest trip a human could go on. So die happy. It's kinda important. But, although it's been proven, we can't truly know until we die.
      There's been some theorizing around the whole death thing, saying that when it releases when we die, that's when our soul, our consciousness, whatever, is flung out. I kind of believe this, but being a teen and all, I'm really just experimenting with beliefs. Either way, I wrote an essay on it that could totally change the way you think about this stuff because I back what I say up with facts. It's cool, and if you wanted, it's right here. docs.google.com/document/d/1RUCDoJB0-GQJjInok-XZxlSdV0sDzr46LXZulmiDn50/edit?usp=sharing

      +Silverizael In the video he mentioned that studies have shown that prolonged exposure to formaldehyde led to increased chances of getting cancer. Since he also said that small amounts are produced by the body, I was wondering if you could get the same prolonged exposure through the build up of formaldehyde in tissues. The reasoning being that cellular processes had broken down due to some unknown factor.

    You should do an entire episode dedicated to DMT. I'm very curious why this powerful psychedelic is made by our body since there isn't a clear answer to it. Also want to know if it's harmful since it's an extremely illegal substance

      +Pierce Connors DMT is a simple molecule very closely related to tryptamine and therefore tryptophan (one of the twenty-two key amino acids needed for your body to function in general). Tryptamine exists and is also mildly "psychoactive" and the dimethylated analogue would logically exist due to the methylating enzymes that your body produces to methylate specific compounds. Occasionally, stuff goes past it like DMT.
      It is illegalised by the US government when they blanketed all psychedelic compounds as it was closely related to insurrection and protests (and hippies) back in the 70s... what with the Vietnam war.

    • @SoulDelSol

    We actually know what DMT is for. It's used by your brain to take you out in times of intense shock. that is why many have weird experiences that sound like acid trips, while they can't really remember what happened.
    We also use very minute amounts for dreams. But the two moments in which most of us get a serious dose is when we are born and when we die. birth is very stressful, especially for the child, the brain gets squeezed and you go from warm and comfortable cozy, to cold, bright, noisy and intimidating. the other is when we die. if your brain can see death coming, it will put you to easy with some DMT, which is why so many have the sense of seeing their lives, or even living whole lives someplace else, while their mind slowly enters the void.

It is not a nice feeling and the acidity is definitely noticeable.

    Endocannabinoids act as a kind of "cool down system" for your brain. It works in the opposite direction as conventional neurotransmission. These cannabinoids are just pieces of cellmembrane being synthesized in de post synaptic cell and sent to the pre synaptic cell binding to so called CB receptors. There it signals to the pre synaptic cell to stop releasing neurotransmitters. If this neurotransmitter is an inhibitory one, the post synaptic cell will of course get more active.

    Maybe DMT is produced while we sleep as a byproduct of our brain (and the rest of nervous system) "cleaning" itself, removing the waste, hence found in cerebrospinal fluid. But since it's a powerful psychodelic, it stimulates some sense input processing centers in the brain, therefore dreams occur. Basically like naturally dropping acid while sleeping.
