      Wouldn't you also use some of the fire to roast stuff? Or would you do this as a separate thing?

      @@dusssss631 the fire heats the rocks the rocks steam the water the dirt holds it in and it all steams. We Maori do roast food as well but it's easier to feed 100 people like this

    This is a unique style that comes from the Pacific Islands... All Pacific Islanders knows this method... And it gives pure original taste than using stove

    This legendary grand pappy British chef Gordon Ramsay had a hard time digging up the pit in New Zealand while cooking the traditional Maori lamb.

    I think Monique was a bit mean to Gordon - we have a permanent hangi pit at home. I think making Gordon dig a new pit was punishment for his atrocious pronunciation of Te Reo Maori?

    Always cracks me up watching them try dig the pit with shovels and not a proper spade lol heoi te pai hoki to mahi kia korua. Mahia te mahi 👌🏾

      Yeah hard out, we use the spade to dig the hole and the shovel to scoop out dirt and moving the rocks lol
