First story, humans get the point across that we know more about how terrible war is than most intelligent species. Second story, possibly the scariest words you'll ever hear from a human... "Hold my beer." Great understated laugh there for the 'hold my beer' line, it fits quite well!
"hold my Beer" rarely ends well. Here is a like and comment for the stories, for entertaining me, to help your channel grow, and get you the recognition you deserve.
Ah yes, The Green Fields of France, one of my favorite songs covered by the Dropkick Murphys... That song always hits me hard as a veteran of the War on Terror, and who lost a comrade in arms in the 9/11 attack on the Pentagon. Even now, almost 20 years after my part in that long war ended, I wonder if there was any point to any of it.
A beautiful song written by a Scottish Australian songwriter, performed marvellously by an Irish-American band. If you want another similar song written by the same writer, check out "The band played Waltzing Matilda", covered by the Pogues.
@@SH-qs7ee I'm quite familiar with that one: Local folk radio station played it semi-regularly, and that song was the end credits music for the Battlefield 1 single player campaign.
My father fought in Iraq. Two deployments. The government that the US military and its allies put into place is still there despite ISIS. It is far from a 'good' government, but it is still in place and Iraq no longer threatens to invade its neighbors and destabilize the entire Middle East. Afghanistan is a mess and it remains to be seen if it was worth it. If there's another large scale terrorist attack launched from the country, I think many will believe there was no point to the initial invasion since the withdrawal ended up with the same people in power. If there isn't, then opinion will be (even more) divided until enough time has passed to show that the Taliban is no longer a threat.
I sang the song 'Green fields of France ' so many times never thought it would be possible to have in a Si Fi Story well done for the author and the narrator
Having met, talked to and even sung (drunkenly) with the author of Willie McBride, I am sure he would be smiling at this use of his work! Why is it that in the mythology of modern man "Hold my beer" is followed by something so left of field that it skirts madness ... yet succeeds, yet in reality the only thing it usually succeeds in is to give the observers a good story to tell ..... often over the said beverage?
precisely because the success of an insane "hold my beer" is so rare that its become like that. Its a sort of slay the dragon thing. you attempt to do the impossible and somehow succeeded where everyone would fail
Great stories; Excellent narration! Maybe we should make the 1st story mandatory reading for everyone on Earth! In the far future, archeologists will ponder the meaning of "Hold my Beer!" Was it a greeting between friends while exchanging beers? Was it a sign of trust between leaders while exchanging ceremonial beer gifts? The archeologists will ponder it for decades. 🙂
Theres an editing error where it skips a sentence at the 11:00 minute mark. Goes from "Todd to full function. A few months ago." Missing."I'm not sure how long it was after the breeding pit incident that we got assigned to Atmospheric Monitoring Station 27."
This was the perfect combo of stories. The first is about the stupidity of man and how we keep killing each other. The second is the other stupidity of man and how we do incredibly dumb (but fun) stuff and get hurt.
Lyrics are from "The green fields of France". I would have loved a squirrel singing them, but maybe that's asking too much. Already quite baffled with seemingly flawless pronunciation of alien names so please keep them coming.
You have to remember something to see the pattern... Alas, head trauma follows shortly after, "Hold my beer." Really throws a wrench that whole pattern recognition thing.
The Galactic Council have discovered an alternate set of "The Three Words" that causes humans to have a bizarre yet quantifiable outcome. When uttered this alternate set of words causes humans to attempt to do something most would consider it so remotely plausible as to never attempt it in the first place and yet succeed (for about 2 seconds) before failing in such as way as to cause tens on thousands of credits in damage yet somehow survive the attempt.
There used to be several other types of humans. H. habilis, H. erectus, H. heidelbergensis and Neanderthals All humans have a deep rooted fear of things that look like us but aren't us. The uncanny valley I wonder if those are related
Story One I can hear the bagpipes play Amazing Grace, It just go to show a new way to help others understand that war is not good and we have tried to learn from our mistakes yet often fail to do so. Two World Wars and we lost so many lives it scars us deeply. Story Two yer the drunken human who thinks he can do almost anything without fear yet mostly do not end well :).
We unfortunately have more than our share of wartime graveyards. They should also have been made to visit Arlington National Cemetary and The Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers. That would wake anyone to think twice that their remains might not be identified, if even found. Welp, Todd sure made a mockery of that one.
No, I think the war cemeteries in Europe and Turkey make a more poignant point; these were where the fighting and dying happened. Arlington is a place where the heroes came home. Flanders, Gallipoli, the Somme; the heroes never came back from there. And as beautiful and moving as Arlington is, there isn't quite the same history of bloodshed behind it.
@@SH-qs7ee I can't and won't try to argue that. But not all of us are able to travel overseas and the fact that UNIDENTIFIED heroes have been laid to rest, unknown to all but their maker, is a sobering thought.
Story 1. Humans, let us show you a lesson from our history. A lesson from some of our darkest times. A lesson from our pain and suffering. A lesson to teach us all about the foolishness of war and why we now strive for peace. Now, let the peace negotiations start. Story 2. Todd is certainly NOT a wise human. After his mishap with that improvised skateboard, he should have known better. An improvised hand glider from the remains of a destroyed weather balloon ?
Story 1: We can't even stop wars amongst ourselves on Earth. What hope do we have of stopping an ancient war between species who don't even think like us?
how long do you think it will take the guy in the 2nd story to learn that, whenever Todd says "hold my beer" they need to stop him from doing whatever the fuck is about to follow? XD
1st story: Humanity let's two other species know of the sadness Humans experienced first hand. Made them think with that sorrowful music and lyrics. 2n story: 2 buddies, one human and one non human. The non human buddy sticks up for his human buddy and makes sure the medical care is done - and tells them the injuries were WORK related. Humans did screw other humanoids out of existence - we took them into our genes. That genetic material from them and us made humans better adapted then either singular humanoid type. LOL, guys human friend though is a bit of a risk taker.
I've read about a computer simulation where they tried to find out why we survived and the Neanderthals didn't with tons of variables they could modify, but at last the only thing that made the neanderthals vanish while we stayed was a tiny flow of additional Homo sapiens sapiens from Africa, no matter what they did to all other variables. So maybe we didn't "kill" them, just outbred them with constant flow of new people.
"Hold my beer" is one of the approved phrases for summoning the spirit of Darwin.
One story to make you cry, and another to make you laugh. I seriously hope the future is this optimistic.
Hold my beer!!

Still ends better than "Hey boys, watch this!" ever did for me.

Lol as soon as I heard him say hold my beer I was like welp that's not going to end well 😂😂😂
After the skateboard incident, I knew what was going to happen as soon as I heard "cliff" and "weather balloon."
" are you thinking what I'm thinking buddy ? " ... " Almost certainly not ! " lol
I was expecting base jumping - those nutters make hang gliding look positively mundane.😁
The wise, wise humans watch the "hold my beer" humans and learn from the aftermath.

I had a tear with no 1.

There are so many gravestones with that phrase on it...
Well... It was probably already a saying in the early days of the First Dynasty of Ancient Egypt. You know, some 7000 years ago...
For the Skald and his family, may they always be fruitful.
2 Great readings
TY Agro.
I hope Todd survives long enough for us to hear more stories about him.

That first story...I can almost hear the poem in Flanders fields. Waregem is where one of the American WW1 Cemetaries are
This was the perfect combo of stories. The first is about the stupidity of man and how we keep killing each other. The second is the other stupidity of man and how we do incredibly dumb (but fun) stuff and get hurt.
No legend ever started with a glass of milk.
“Hold my beer” is a phrase that should have you getting ready to call for paramedics. It’s right up there with “hey y’all, watch this”

5:40 streets of new Reno?
The first story brought tears to my eyes
May what happened on those green fields of France never happen again, Lest we forget.... I hope the world hasn't forgotten.

For the best teller of stories 2023 goes to AGRO!!!!!
Nice to know that the Darwin Awards will continue and find their place amongst the stars.
When some guy named Todd says "Hold my beer" you just preemptively call the medics.
Very good. WITH ENERGY!!

story number 2 -- Darwin Awards has entered the chat:
Glorious.
1st story
" And i have a rendezvous with death at midnight in some flaming town. "
Alan Seeger
Some humans are wiser than others ...
2nd story...started laughing from "hold my beer"
"wise humans"? Sounds like an oxymoron to me... XD
The three most terrifying words in the English language. Hold My Beer.
Or, alternatively, "Hey Y'all, watch this!"

Humans are wise enough to know when something is a bad idea we’re just stupid enough to actually do it
Hypothesis: This is a stupid idea! ... Now we have to prove it!
Rest in Peace young Wiliie McBride

10:58 I think you might have missed a sentence, and FOR THE ALGORITHM!
For the Algorithm, for the Author(s), for the Holographic Voice!

Story 1: You WILL learn from our mistakes. OR ELSE.
Story 2: Humans are Wise Fools
