Foul Hydraulic Pumps and the Evening Chicken Frenzy
Вставка
- Опубліковано 7 жов 2023
- Things on the farm are changing quickly as winter approaches. After a short update on the animals, I remove the hydraulic pump from the Farmall H, take it apart, and find what parts need to be replaced. Then it's time for the evening chicken frenzy, as the laying hens go up into their egg mobile to roost for the night.

*Does anyone else get super happy in the morning when they see a new Just a Few Acres video?* 😍
Absolutely right. The rhythm of nature is our rhythm, too. Pay attention to that and happiness follows.
Best Sunday treat: a video by Just a few acres‘ Pete! Thank you!
🐓🐓🐓The hens going up to roost was well worth the price of admission - LOL! Great video, Pete… thank you!!! 🚜❤️🚜
I love the "im sorry for what im about to say" look Pete always gives the camera before he drops a dad joke haha
I love seeing life on the farm. I grew up on the farm myself and I really miss it. I'm 53 and would love to go back Pete. Our farm has been in our family 145 years. I really enjoy your dad jokes. Thank you for everything Pete.
What do you call a toothless grizzly? A gummy bear!
Peer Gynt was just the right choice of music for the chickens bedtime routine.
Perfect music for watching the hens go to sleep in the egg mobile. Thanks, Pete!
Perfect timing, everything is fed. Time for breakfast and A Few Acres Farm.
I think every mans dream is to have a shop big enough to tinker away on things like you're doing with the tractor mate, love it.
Sounds like it’s been a great year. Like any farm there are ups and downs. Thank you Pete for your hospitality each week.
Pete, I could watch you fix things all day! The amount of knowledge you have accumulated is amazing!
I found it hilarious when that spring shot out. I thought I was the only one who had things like that happen to them. I truly enjoy your videos. Can't think of one that I skipped watching. Always something of interest to me.
I feel like im watching CBS News Sunday Morning with Pete!
Neat things about your channel, Pete: the sense of rhythm that you capture, the purpose and intentionality of the daily chores and other projects you share with us, and the richness of your reflections on your place within the whole. Time lapses of turkeys and chickens going to roost, drone shots of a beautiful hay field? Creative bonuses, and not unrelated to the rest of what you do here. I grew up a couple hours west of you in Cattaraugus County, and am now living in Iowa, where row crop farming dominates, so the scenery you share is just so much nostalgia from the first eighteen years of my life. But more than that, the information you share is helping my wife and I frame our thoughts regarding the potential for the six acres we just bought a couple months ago. A word of appreciation for letting us in on how you and Hilarie live.
When you said "dinking around with it" you made me remember my grandpa...he used to say that too.
I love fall, the changes in nature and the livestock is inspiring. without fall to slow us down, and winter to reset us, we would just run ourselves into the ground literally. Nature has a very good work - rest balance, we should learn from that.
I’ve never thought “In the Hall of the Mountain King” when thinking of chickens, but yeah, it works!
With the end of summer that means it’s time to relax… and restore some old tractors! These are some of my favorite videos that you make. So educational!
Enjoyed the chickens going to roost! Didn’t know if they had to be coaxed to go inside. Thank you for sharing!
Pete, loved the chickens going to roost! Would make a great animated cartoon ending!
When my wife says "Are you going to do ANYTHING this winter??!!", I'll just say "Pete says I need to hibernate".
Strong shoulders and lats dipping turkeys. It was neat watching the turkeys go to bed. Now the hens.
Good morning Pete! I don’t know anything about tractors but watching you over the years restoring them, makes me want to try it.. Thank you for taking us along!
Loved the chickens going to bed and the music. Thank you so much. Enjoy your Fall.
Loved watching the chickens time laps! Love watching and listening to you Pete!
I send every riddle to my grandkids. They love them.
Your addition of the bonus footage is enjoyable. Glad you all can slow down. Stay safe.
just a few Acres after church on Sunday is becoming a habit here!
Enjoyed the hens performing their grand finale to their day. Thanks Pete!
Hi Pete, it's good to see you and Hilary doing well. I feel like I've known you a long time and consider you a good friend even though we have never met. Your videos tell a great American Dream story. I hope everything continue to go well. I'll be looking for the next video. Take care!
Totally enjoy the time-lapse of the chickens and the music as well. It is one of my favorite pieces and knowing the chickens are going to rest and relax peacefully for the night is a good feeling. Thank you for taking me along and hope this Fall and Winter are good ones for you. Take Care.
Love the fall season and slowing things down, Pete. Really enjoyed the ending. Music was a bonus. Have a great week.
Loved the chicken roost scramble! 😂 And you gave it the perfect background music 🎶
The season changes is something I look forward to, one of my favorite is the fall season. I like doing hay and taking care of the land and animals as well, but I very much welcome the fall season, the cooler temps and the mini-break we get from the heat and constant push. Thanks for the video, I hope your week goes well!
❤ I really enjoyed the chookies time lapse 👍🏻 Cheers ,Everyone 👋🏻
Enjoy watching you work on your equipment Pete. And enjoyed watching the chickens go to roost too. All of your video is awesome. I find myself wishing to see Hilary’s day too. But, know she’s a private person and respect the balance of privacy and UA-cam presence.
Good morning Pete and Hillary. Happy Sunday hope that the animals are doing well. 😍
Thanks for another great video. Love the mechanical projects. Enjoy seeing the Good Ole American design, engineering and manufacturing successes of the past. A great week to you, Hillary and family. Michael, Norwalk Ct.
Thank you mr. Pete and Mrs Hillary of course, always enjoy your videos
It always makes me cringe when you take a pump apart, its like how will he remember to put it back together. Another great video Thank You for your time , look forward to the next one.
Double bonus...got to watch the turkey's a second time! :)
Just picked up our first piglets to grow out on the farm!
Thanks for helping people like us to feel confident enough to try these things out!
I feel like I’m listening to Andy Rooney. Brings back fond memories!
The summer went fast this year. It was packed with every aspect of your farm. The big video was trip with your children to the BIG RED get together. That sure was fun Pete. Thank you for sharing your passion with us!😊
PS - a grrrreat choice of music for the ‘hens getting ready to go to bed!’ Yours in Gratitude
Loved todays video and thanks Pete. Always like you repair and determine problems with the equipment videos. Liked the chickens going to bed ritual. Saw you or Hillary close the on the chickens 🐔 for the night. Thanks again and have a great day.
Learned many things this year from you Pete to help me with my 5 hens in the backyard coop. I have 1 that is so loud we we're thinking of changing her name to patty she is always squawking to me when I'm in the backyard. She lets me know if she thinks the food conditions are not appropriate.
Enjoy watching your farm life😊
Loved this video, Pete. You have such a great philosophy of life and the rhythm of work on the farm. You have such patience when working with animals AND machinery. Lovely to see. Wishing you and Hil’ a delightful happy dance. Yours in Gratitude
I'm always freaking impressed that what you take apart, you can also put back together! You can't tell me farmers aren't the smartest guys around! Arguably the most important too.
Thanks Pete, God bless you and Hilarie in what you do.
I really hope that you never stop farming there's so few of us left. But like you said it's getting harder and harder to make a profit
I enjoy watching you videos and the changes that occur on your farm. I especially appreciated the season telling us to slow down. In New Zealand, we are in Spring, so we are starting to speed up again. Thanks Pete and happy farming.
I would never remember where all the parts went after I took something like that apart. I love the chicken roosting soundtrack.
It’s good to see you working on the tractors again , interesting 👍🇺🇸🇺🇸
There's probably enough glass in my cupboard to build an undersea aquarium.
Wow. I felt like I was watching a medical doctor doing open heart surgery. It was genuinely fascinating watching you so patiently take that whole thing apart, finding what was wrong with it, and knowing exactly what to do to fix it, put it all back together again and make it good as new. How in the world does a person get to know so much about such an intricate thing that is made with so many, many, many parts? Fascinating. lol You made the entire thing utterly interesting. But of course, the best part of all, was watching the chickens going to bed. :) It wasn't long enough, though. And way, way too fast. :) Do it again, ok? :)) OH! And show us you and Hilary doing the Happy Dance when the time comes. :))) And yes, your joke was so terrible it made me snort! Do that again, too, ok?? lol
Hey Pete! yep this old man is still watching and living vicariously through you and Hilary. Made Octogenarian back in April, so retired now only tractor work I do is on my little cub mower. weedwackers, chain saws etc. and very little of those. So I for one really enjoy the tractor repairs, maintenance, restorations. Man ! I love seeing the finished product with all the new Red paint. it just makes my heart glow so I know exactly how you feel when you look at it Pete. you can't hide your pride it's all over your face and in your eyes. thanks for doing these videos and makeing this old man a Happy one. God Speed. ECF
As we grow as unique persons, we learn to respect the uniqueness of others.
I am so envious of your lifestyle! I grew up on a small farm in Southern Ontario, but now live in crazy, hectic Toronto. For all of its ups and downs I miss the farm life - it was much more of a natural way to live. Anyway I'm living vicariously through your videos (hopefully that doesn't sound too weird) - keep the jokes coming!
I also grew up in rural Southern Ontario, I'm now just outside Vancouver, living vicarious thru Pete and Hillary 😄
I also grew up on a farm in Southern Ontario. In fact Dad bought the farm from Mr King who lived beside the old one-room school just east of Wyoming Ontario. The farm (100 acres)we bought was 1mile east of town on Confederation Line. Small world eh? I lived there until 1968 when I was married. My wife and I now live in a small town in Northeast Iowa.
you lost me at 5/16th, i can tear them apart but would take a real and i mean real mechanic to put it all together again, good job, and again thanks for feeding us
Thanks for the video Pete. I totally agree about seasonal slow down. I open, clean, and close swimming pools here in SC. Couple of weeks be done till 1st of March. Going to work on my tractors too, and cut a little firewood for next year. Y'all have a blessed day
Thanks Pete. Love watching you work on your tractors. Love the bonus video at the end.
I was hoping you'd time lapse the layer chickens heading to bed. Thanks!
Enjoy watching you take apart the pump!
Changing gears is a good thing.
I would appreciate watching you butcher chickens and turkeys. I think there would be a lot to learn.
I really enjoyed the ending with the chickens! Great choice of music as well!
There's many tasks for the "Radio Flyer". Awesome, accurate coverage on the pump.
Loved the ending with the chickens!
great Farmall H hydraulic pump repair video. Really enjoyed your sharing.
Like the timelapse, especially the classical music.
Chickens looked awesome a nice flock, I have 4 hoping to double my numbers soon, mine are Hyline's which are our local favourite (New Zealand ) for operations like yours they are efficient egg a day birds that will squat down as you walk up to them so very very easy to pick up or catch. I think a rooster soon maybe and some broody bantams to raise chicks for us the neighbors love to bring over all their food scraps I give them eggs its becoming a nice neighborhood project.
Very classy ending with the chickens!
Quite a time lapse with the chickens. Nice to see you wearing the Ohio State T-shirt. That was my alma mater 50 yrs ago. Like your IH tractors. We have a Case 1030( Dad liked Case) and 2 IH 656's (1 rowcrop and 1 utility). Our big horse is my son's IH 1486.
IT IS NICE TO SEE YOU DO SOMETHING YOU ENJOY DOING😊😊
This video reminds me of the days when Dads could fix our trucks and cars themselves. My Dad did all those things. Because most parts were readily available he could get things up and running in an evening. He was an upstate farm boy too, until WWII hauled him away through the Schenectady yards. I sure do miss him.
I'm going to have to save this this video. I need to overhaul the belly pump on my M and add the remotes to it. I think these are really close to the same. Thanks, Mr. & Mrs. Pete!! Well wishes from the Ohio/Indiana Stateline!!
Man saw your video was out and u were working on old red my heart jumped ty great video and god bless u and your family give your dad a hug form my family much love from Arizona
Taking all you advice and puting into my future homesteading 10years from now
Love the time lapse!!
Now, Pete, is that "Stu" or "Stew?" Always enjoy your content...thanks for keeping us abreast of developments on your farm.
Good morning Hillary and Pete. Yes, got my java and you guys for coffee again. Just love you guys coming over and never complaining that was coffee is so strong it can stripe the color off the sun. Happy harvest time. Yeah, I need pork, turkey and all the beef you can deliver.
While looking at the videos telling myself hope Pete remember where all the parts supposed to go
have nice time watching have nice afternoon
This was really good Pete. I enjoyed every second.
I keep coming back for your jokes. 😂🤣. That is not the only thing. Love your videos!
I almost fainted when you used that Dewalt impact driver ha. Maybe it was because you were whipped from doing turkeys.
Another great video.
Pete been watching all along. I've had a feeling you seam to love the older tractors. I was right. I love your videos. Please keep them coming.
I admire your intelligence, you know everything about farming..... even though you made your decisions about the pigs a farm isn't complete without Pigs, how about for your own consumption, keep Billy and get a new young sow? Just a suggestion. Blessings vto all your hard work. Love all your videos it makes my day. Blessings to you all . ❤🎉 Marion
An enjoyable post! Loved the music you chose for the hens bedding down
The music accompanying was perfect to the timing
Morning Pete looking forward to tractor projects . Always good to her your voice, Hi I’m Pete . God Bless
