- Froogle embarks on the long awaited flight to Rome, but with his fully loaded networked FSX setup. More info on the setup used for this below........
(Apologies for the delay - had a lot of pre-Christmas work to do, my mic broke, had trouble with my network setup - basically everything went wrong)
2 PC's were used to record this, the main one's specs being in the channel description at / frooglesim

Expanding the mind by studying and learning something most people would not normally ever be able to do, the sense of achievement at mastering a long and complex flight correctly and by the book after studying and practicing everything leading up to it, the pleasure that comes from mastering the skills necessary to complete a particularly challenging approach etc etc.
Just like other responders I would like to thank you for making videos like these which fill in the blanks for me, introduce me to some aspects of the NGX I hadn't used before and motivate me to carry on educating myself in this field, Cheers Marc
This is my job. I write for a flight sim magazine, and this channel is a business (albeit a small one). It made a huge amount of sense for me to dig into this aircraft as much as I could - the 200,000 views the videos on it have picked up kinda testify to that.
No problem. Glad you're enjoying them.
Thanks for putting these videos together, Froogle. The amounts of add-ons running simultaneously seems insane to learn and manage.
That was good. Very professional. It is amazing the depth of the sim. It is apparent that being a pilot is not for everyone. It is really so much more about attention to detail and procedures than it is stick and rudder.
Good to hear. Just checked out the site and it looks promising. I'm sticking with BAV though - we have 1200 active pilots, and are supported by the actual airline.
I am very impressed. Not only with your attention to detail, but the hardware and software running together. Mt PC would crash so hard that I may never recover! Like I said, impressive.
Truly appreciate the dedication with which you make these videos. Remarkable to watch! Thank you so much.
You're welcome - glad you enjoyed the vids.
I'm not surprised!!! Congrats on your new stick.
Completely agree. I'm studying the Airbus X at the moment and while it's complex, it feels like a vacation compared to the NGX.
I've been flying sims since about 1985. I've been writing about them for magazines since around 1999. I started flying for real in 1997. But no, I am not a pilot. I just love flying.
Not sure I know what you mean. To sign up with BAV head over to the website, click apply and wait. I think we have about 100 people in the waiting list at the moment as BAV limits the number of pilots on the roster to around 1250.
Depends how deep you want to go. You can run through the two tutorial flights included with the aircraft in a few hours. After that, it's up to you. It took me about 3 months.
Thank you again :) Glad you're getting a kick out of the vids.
I wasn't aware that FSX was available as a download. It comes on 2 DVDs when you buy it. I suggest you contact your vendor for support to see what they say.
Liveries for the NGX also define the cockpit equipment to use. This is still an -800, just without winglets and different cockpit equipment config. It is a private download available to British Airways Virtual pilots to make the NGX appear more like the standard 400's BA flies.
Possibly. You could still make a lot of use for things like choosing the appropriate approach, SID and STAR, but honestly you'd probably get better value picking up the actual charts from Navigraph and working from them.
I don't have it running in front of me, but I seem to recall you click on Flight Plan, enter the start, enter the end and go. I don't import flight plans into it but just set the direct route and it tends to figure out what I'm going to need along the way so there's no jarring shifts in weather en-route.
Nope. This livery is available from British Airways Virtual after you have joined. It is a full PMDG livery in that when you install it and select it, it also reconfigures the aircraft. In the case of this particular aircraft that means removing some of the glass displays, the winglets, and the HGS.
I actually don't recall. I think it was from reading various posts from the senior 737 chaps at BAV on the forums, as well as documentation in the training sections of the site.
Wow! What a video! Now the same with VATSIM (as mentioned and really bad weather and maybe a longhaul flight! Awesome Froogle Pete! :)
yes indeed it would be great for you to explain your setup. for example, having rex and still using active sky as wx engine, or using the other computer and connecting it to the simulator, i didn't quite get that. active sky has loads of settings as far as i can remember. making all these addons work together is an art. the place you get your charts also is a point of interest. finding up to date charts are a big hassle.
Thank you sir. And yes I am looking at Vatsim
I haven't flown that I'm afraid so can't help. However, I will be looking at the DC9 after I finish up the review and plan on some tutorials with it - the principles on that aircraft will be similar, but unfortunately you're going to have to wait until the new year.
Hello,
I am very new to these Flight sims and like to think ive tapped out FSX for all its worth, meaning that ive completed all of its missions, several times in FSX. Ive tried downloading new missions, but i couldnt get any to work and im not going to pay for more missions, not going to happen. My question is, does X-Plane 10 offer pre-loaded missions similar to FSX?
It does not no, but you can easily set up "situations"
Thanks for the tip. Someone else mentioned that to me on the forums recently and I am curious.
Yes, that's a feature of FS2Crew, and addon for the NGX.
You can accelerate the time but I typically do not. I am currently flying London to Orlando for example - it's expected to take 8 hours.
If I may make a suggestion you could try a flight from LIMF (Torino Caselle) to LGW. It's BAW 2579 The take-off from Turin usually involves a right climbing turn straightening out a bit and then another climbing turn that puts you back above the airport. The whole purpose is to get enough height to cross the Alps. Crossing France is relatively boring but the let down across the Channel is quite rapid.
LIMF-MF401-MF402-MF403-SIRLO-BLA-MOLUS-ROMTA-DJL-TUNOR-LAULY-BRY-CLM-SOSUN-SUBIP-WAFFU-CAMRA-EGKK
The SID for this is SIRLO at 4000ft
Here is the take-of in a VC10 ( the 737 for that day was US)
Super VC10 how to Fly using Voicechecklist and PFE ATC
Have a good flight!
And again, this episode flew past me. I mean, seriously. This isn't a very popular channel, but I still love your videos. For flucks sake, UA-cam....
You can click on the Hard Mute button, and also manually select the phase of flight FS2Crew thinks you should be in. Most of us though leave it enabled even on Vatsim.
I can't no. It took a huge amount of work and research and software to achieve. I may at some point do a video on it. To start you off try Googling WideFS and SimConnect. Everything is based around those two things.
It's an option you need to turn on inside the EFB. I think it's a T or a TA icon or something - can't recall offhand.
Hi Froogle, I joined on you channel the last two weeks and start to watch your old videos. My friend at this moment I like all. I flight with FS from 1996 and still with FSX with couples add-on. Last year I bought VoxATC and let me tell you, is awesome, you need to try it. I start also the last year the flight school for my private license and VoxATC help me to improve the VFR communication and the terminology, because you need to talk directly to the controller. Off course work for IFR too.
I not try yet Vatsim, because I don't known if people are connected in the area where is my home base (6B6).
Also I bought the last X-plane 10 and look good. I would like that some third part can improve the ATC system. Thanks for these videos, and sorry for my spelling, I m not originally from USA.
Cool! If you were doing ground the other night you probably saw me. Flew Gatwick Rome, then had to restart about 30 minutes later - around 3 in the morning your time.
i love this kind of simulation games, this its really fantastic
Yeah agreed on every point. I actually fly more on Vatsim these days than with Radar Contact but I'm building up the realism and complexity in the videos ..;)
Absolutely. I just have so many add-ons running I prefer to spread the load.
We'll see. I revisited this idea this morning and it would be very very hard to do - there was a huge amount of trial and error involved in building my set up and the last thing I want to do is put up a video that gets me flooded with a few thousand "How do I..." requests. Still thinking about it though.
Yes Aivlasoft EFB which i think is mentioned in the video a few times.
I don't want to know how you linked two computers together and how you managed to have it run so smoothly. Just the fact that you did it at all elevates your status to the top. I bow in the presence of a Master..,.
Of course. I have to edit it up though and combine it with the footage from the other PC etc etc. I hope to have it ready within the next day or two.
I never tweaked the settings in the EFB so I don't know. Perhaps it's a function of zoom - you need to zoom in more? The lines by the way are, a line under means at or above, a line above means at or below, a line above and below means strictly at.
You need to buy FS2Crew for each aircraft you want it to support. So, in this video, this is obviously FS2Crew for the PMDG737 NGX with voice support.
lol thanks. Changes are coming. As I just announced on the main channel (frooglepete) I am scaling back that channel and Frooglesim is now the main channel so that gives me a Butt load more time to spend on these vids for you guys (and racing)
Thanks for the info. Makes perfect sense now.
nice froogle. best pilot ive sceen yet
Yeah agree completely. I've often wanted to use it for VFR flights. People are recommending I check out ProATC so maybe that does...
3 programs. SimConnect that is built into FSX Deluxe and the SDK, WideFS that's listed up above, and Aivlasoft EFB that has everything it needs built in.
I had that line up in real life. At Manchester on a Monarch A321 bound for Paphos, we lined up on the runway and waited for around 10 mins whilst an Easyjet A319 cut in front of us, I believe that was Paphos bound also, and then a BA A320 also cut in front bound for Heathrow. It's weird seeing planes line up together but it does happen, especially at congested times.
Welcome, and thanks for subscribing.
frooglesim, I don’t mean to criticize, but to be more precise, at 31:40, the RC ground controller told you to "line up and wait" not "taxi into position and hold." The controller meant for you to line up and wait behind the aircraft that was holding. I'm guessing EFB was actually wrong in this case. Sometimes all of these automated systems don't quite work together and have a glitch once in awhile....but great vidwo none the less.
Not a big deal, :-) All your videos are fantastic! I don't have FS2Crew at this time, but it sounds good. Just might get it future after watching this.
Glad you have brought XPlane to our attention (another video) as well....like you, flying is more important to me.....the scenery is not that important. Perhaps I can learn to fly the helicopter with X-Plane! I can get by on FSX, but not great.
It was a flaps 5 take off, as briefed in the departure briefing, yes
Not sure in this video - I haven't watched it in a while, and I'm busy working through comments right now. It would either have been the built in PMDG pushback accessed through fS2Crew, or it would have been GSX.
Any man who in an aircraft that size who says "I got run over by a bus" is worth an instant sub
Or more! I saw a throttle quadrant today for the NGX for over a thousand.
Yes, I will be. Have had it about a week now and have been studying.
Thanks Felipe.
FANTASTIC equipment and software Config...great Video..please do more...must admit I am going to use them as tutoirials,
Thanks! I lurk on Avsim, also A2A and Aerosoft as well as, of course, British Airways Virtual. I will do a setup video at some point yes.
Lots of reading, research and investigation.
The 400 is not from PMDG. The 600 is an addon to the addon.
Thank you - yes I it is a passion of mine.
It is my hope over time that I can educate those who are members of that small and special group. Those I can't will typically just wander off, or get physically helped to wander off should they choose to vocalize their ineptitude.
I really think I have to check that out.
Spot on, mate! Brilliant video! Thumbs up for all your setup/equipment and AddOns, looks really professional and I guess you enjoy it a lot :)
It would absolutely be possible yes, but daunting as hell. Let me think on it.
holy cow mate this is so epic but this is all way above my head, you ppl have my utmost respect for your realism in your sims I take it there is a way to get started on the basics! ....how many pcs do you have running lol epic mate. simply amazed, ill just have to make sure next time I fly I have you on board in case the captain and the co have ills! ill stick to ED and SC....
lol well, glad you got a kick out of the video.
It's something Fraps let's you do, so you can easily turn it off in the settings :) Sometimes it's interesting for the audience to be aware of the creators framerate. Great video!
Your videos blow my mind. The detail of the content and explanation of everything. Great videos!! Keep it up - From New subscriber
It's a game (FSX), with an addon (PMDG's 737NGX) and an addon for that (FS2Crew) that lets me talk to a virtual co-pilot to manage the aircraft.
You can buy FSX from Amazon or Microsoft's own games marketplace. The 737 NGX is available to buy from PMDG (google them). Also if you Google FS2Crew you'll find their store where you buy that particular add-on.
you don't really know how much I envy your graphics.. I would never get that in my PC, ENJOY!!!
Radar Contact in this video.
Can't wait to see this. An early Christmas present to be sure! Also, are you going to do any vids with the New Aerosoft Airbus X extended?
Love the video's Froogle! I'm addicted to your channel. What forums are you on? Also can you do a video of your sim setup?
My first time watching one of your videos! It's awesome! Also, Love PC Pilot! (I saw you say you write for it).
Wonderful as always!
Absolutely fantastic, well done, you are a true star.
(x-plane 10 user)

OK, I gotta ask, how do you make a Flight Simulator interesting to watch to point where I'm thinking of downloading a copy?
Easy! Just show you what's possible, and show some passion in doing so ;)
frooglesim I personally got into FSX because of you and your reviews! I wouldn't be flying the NGX or Airbus without your go ahead!
The way I see it? the more realistic, the better..Luv this!
If you are in the UK, Game usually has a few copies of FSX in store
Loving FScrew, it's so emmersive. Truly wish i had your PC's grunt though. Great vid.Now that you are flying jets can i be cheeky and challenge you to try the Concorde?
thank you very much worked a treat! keep up the good videos dude loving them
Sitting here at SDF (inthe real world) Love this video! Thank you so much. EFB is the next thing to dent my wallet.
Lots and lots and lots of studying, practicing, and more studying.
Depends on the SOP of the airline you are flying with.
I always read PC pilot! Love the magazine!
You mean in the end of the video? Correct. Because I'm effectively managing my own descent, or being forced down by ATC, VNAV won't work.
Nice vid but one tip for future reference....On the ground you never want to arm the auto throttle until on the runway because if you hit the toga button by accident it will automatically throttle up and you can crash and LNAV and VNAV USUALLY(not always) are engaged until after takeoff. But still, of course, a great vid=)
Hay man, love your work, I m fairly new to fsx but if I'm learning this I want to do it right, so how to setup Fsx and the addons that you use and how do you set your pc all the way to the planning process that you show in the rest of your videos, and that includes regestring and going online
Thanks Agin and keep the good work
I do not have the 747 and am waiting for the next version.
Wow that's a lot of questions, and some I can't answer. For PC information and advice I'd highly recommend you read the forums at Avsim. FSX does have some training built in yes, and it will certainly get you started. Personally I just did a TON of reading over the years, and ultimately started to take flying lessons, before going back and doing even more reading on the stuff you won't learn in a PPL course (SIDs, STARs, etc). Join a forum or community and start asking questions, read PCPilot
Excellent vid! I recently subbed to you, in part, for your no nonsence EZdock tutorial....! I use most of your add ons and I see my PC goaning under the weight. I just let the latest version of REX + HD handle the weather, since they have nailed that aspect IMHO. After you have flown the NGX and read the FCOM's the rest are merely toys! Happy Yule!
Sweet. Can't wait.
This "game" (it's a simulator really) is 8 years old. Games like call of duty have to draw scenery in front of you in detail up to about 100 meters away. Simulators have to draw scenery in front of you over 20 miles away. So they have a considerable amount more work to do, plus handle physics simulation, weather simulation, environmental effects on the aircraft, mechanical systems operation etc etc. Plus, since it's so old it only uses 1 core.
Hi Froogle, really nice and inspiring video, love the effort you put into making these videos and love your genuine passion for keeping simulation real! If possible, please do a video on Vatsim. I know it will bring crazy amount of work, but it will be very helpful! Thank ya :)
That's actually a really good idea but it's not likely to happen before your trial runs out unfortunately.
i'm so confident now i would actually let you fly me to Rome ;)
