I know I'm replying five years after, but I had the same thought! The rat wanted to leave the manhole for a reason before getting stuck. Then was put right back in after getting rescued 😂😂
For anyone who thinks the rat is disgusting. A wild rat is actually safer than a domestic cat. There is only one thing a rat can give to humans and it’s called rat bite fever which is extremely rare. There was only 17 cases of it in California over the course of 12 years this is just in one place. A house cat on the other hand can transmit Toxoplasmosis, salmonellosis, hookworms, roundworms, ringworm, campylobacter infection, cryptosporidium infection, giardia, and cat scratch disease. 😂 who’s the real pest? On a side note I have pet rats, they’re clean and cuddly animals who love to play. You can train them to do tricks and they love solving puzzles and of course eating good food. Most people who’ve never researched the animal or had one as a pet would think they were gross. If you don’t want rats in your house they don’t like the smell of mint. Mice are afraid of rats and will flee if they smell them!

Germany seems like a hell of a lot better place to live if this is what makes national headlines in their country. Brexit in the UK, The Executive branch in the US, the Venezuelan government attacking its own people. This video makes everywhere else look like hell.
This is cute, but I have two major problems with it. By pulling on the rat without any sort of lubricant, they put the animal through more unnecessary pain and even organ damage. I was expecting someone to put on thick fire gloves (so as not to get bit) and try rubbing butter or dish soap around the animal’s lower half. This did not happen and instead you hear a terrified rat screaming in pan as he’s pulled on. My second issue is that they just drop the rat back in the drain were it might just get stuck again trying to squeeze out of the tiny hole. I hope the rat survived the trauma. Rats are my favorite animals for their ability to adapt to their environment and their incredible social behaviors.
Rats are cool. They are as smart as a two year old infant and make very sweet pets, unlike hamsters and gerbils who bite. That was really kind of the firefighters to rescue it. What comes around goes around. Nature sees things like this and returns in kind.
If the rat was on its way out, was it really a smart idea to put it back into the sewer where it was trying to get out of? Doesn't really sound like one, now does it?
