I got it tuned up sorry I didn't get any of the video getting the antenna up, well used the back hoe to dig the hole assembled the freshly painted tower started out on a 8ft step ladder got the mast pipe, rotor and antenna installed and pushed it up with the loader bucket on the kubota leveled out the tower and added 10 bags of concrete and it works great ...

    would have definatley made the tower with hinge base... the wire terminals under that rotor will corrode off eventually, but looks like a heavy built antenna

      I coated the connectors with Dielectric grease hopefully it’s good for a few years I wish I could’ve found a crank up with a hinge base

    Nice video, I wanted to see how you did the direct feed with coax, I have a jogunn super audio 4 flatside I gotta redo after 12 years, just wondering did you put any kind of sealant or cover the open braided wire? Thanks and awesome job on the antenna!

    • @Mattsneedforspeed
      @Mattsneedforspeed  Рік тому

      just google "coax seal" its a black tape sealant "small roll red and white box" that can be formed over the coax ends on the gamma rods get 2 rolls and double layer it as it will shrink over time. I stretched a roll the first time i used it and it shrunk down.

    Nice job. I have a maco shooting star on my tower. From your part one video and this video, I see that they definitely have high quality in their design and parts.
    I used to have a Gizmotchy, let's just say it was definitely lower class compared to your 3x3 star.

      This thing is pretty solid as I looked into that when an ice storm took out a pdl2 I had up had a 2 element joe Gunn for almost 17 years before I moved it survived high winds from a tornado and thick ice. But since I’m older now I got all new as I have no plans climbing up there ..

      Keep your shooting star its a much better antenna design than this and will out talk a 3 star all day long. Yours is a true horizontal and vertical antenna. The blocking wire is the most difficult part of the SS once that's done the rest is easy. The SS was originally designed by Wilson antennas. Maco bought the rights to it and they will kick butt.

    That coax connection won't last no time your going to send water directly down into the coax which is a no no. The coax end needs to be facing down not up so water will flow off and away.

      It works pretty good, as I’m getting a full on radio room set up I just have not got to spend enough time on the air to get to appreciate its capabilities yet but have made some states away contacts and it works good when you turn it on some one they are asking if you just kicked on the heat lol

    I'm wondering if you can tell me if you drilled through the Mast pipe to secure the antenna with the Jo Gunn boom to mast clamp?
    I see they have holes in them so I assume you drill through the pipe once it's in there and slide the bolts all the way through to secure it?

    • @Mattsneedforspeed
      @Mattsneedforspeed  Рік тому

      yes you need to slide the center mass over the mounting pole and drill the two holes i did this before assembling the antenna as it was one small piece and the whole antenna

      @Mattsneedforspeed  Рік тому

      well first i wish i had more time to use it, it has good rejection i can turn it on some one and go from a 9+ to almost nothing on the back side. It's just under 50ft to the mass where i'm at i could use 10-20 more feet im around 500ft above sea level here
